I thought the point is that he's still on contract, so his title and responsibilities will change, but his salary will remain. It's worth it to the university because his salary is sunk costs - if they replace him, they'll still have to pay. It's ok with him b/c he wants to live here anyway, knows the new staff, and will get to downshift towards retirement with the same massive income but less responsbility.

I like it!  Two good recruiters there.  I bet Wheatley will do a great job at the RB Coach position, and recruit it well too.  Looking forward to 2015 and beyond!

Whichever coaches Harbaugh selects are good enough for me, but just for discussion sake, I will note that people seem to be getting way too excited about DJ Durkin as DC.  The guy has had one year as a DC, and it was under a head coach whose bread and butter is the DC position.

Again, if Harbaugh says that's good enough for him, then that's good enough for me but as of this minute that is a key coaching staff position that concerns me more than any other.  I assume Harbaugh is all over the offensive coaching positions so I am not concerned there.  But with defense, I just would hate to see another Rich Rod and Jeff Casteel situation.

I am not personally swayed too much by the reports of TAMU wanting Durkin.  I feel that TAMU is on the decline.

As a Niners fanatic, I can tell you Roman is - overall - a very good OC. He was solid with Harbaugh at Stanford and has been very successful with SF. Yes, this year has been odd. Roman has made a number of strange calls, but there are a few reasons for that: 1) The OLD has been gutted; 2) Kaep has regressed in his decision making and has put the team in a lot of bad, avoidable situations; and, 3) The WRs all hate each other and there is very poor chemistry between them and Kaep (I chalk this up to Crabtree).

Are you a Niners fan? I am and I wholly disagree with your comparison to Borges. Roman is pretty damn awesome, and he has been incredible for the past several years. Yes, this year sucked, but I'm not sure you can place the blame on Roman's shoulders. There's plenty to be shared by a number of players. Net-net, in my opinion, Roman would be a great poach for UM.

I would like to see Mattison retained or in this case I suppose, rehired.  Would his contract have to be re-worked?

I don't know enough about the other potential staff members to comment.

As far as Greg Roman as our OC, would his play calling be similar to that of Doug Nussmiers??

Anyone??  Also, glad to see Tyrone Wheatley named as well.

Should be an interesting next couple of days.

Do any of you know if the 49er's Press conference (Post Game) will be live online?

Thanks and GO BLUE.......

we'd be lucky to have roman as our OC. stanford 90-10 were good and 49ers were good first 3 years.
