Top Gun Maverick
I just saw it. It’s a lot of fun and you should go see it in a theater.
I'm really looking forward to see it this weekend!
You’re not the boss of me.
This made me laugh…thanks
I’m the Air Boss.
Just saw it myself. They did a fantastic job. A must see
Not nearly as exciting as My Dinner With Andre.
Does this one have a 30 minute montage of sweaty shirtless oiled-up volleyball too? If not hard pass.
Does Goose die in this one too?
Goose died?
"It's classified...I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you."
Spoiler alert!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's not the Goose.
Nope, it’s football this time.
Unfortunately they brought back the entire original cast for the shirtless, sweaty volleyball montage.
I hope someone gives a Russian fighter pilot the finger.
We were inverted
Show me the polaroid or it didn't happen.
For you young MGOBLOG members a polaroid is just like a smartphone. There just is no phone and the photos get sent to your friends by US mail.
What kind of apps could you get on your Polaroid?
Most likely some melted cheese from your nachos or maybe some buffalo sauce.
Keeping up foreign relations......
I hate a Hollywood style movie but this movie looks effing incredible. I doubt they made it about the Russians two years ago, but if they had that would’ve been even more sweet.
It's pretty obviously a highly fictionalized version of Iran.
Does angry other country still have an active stash of F-14s?
Saw it Thursday night, really liked it. I found it interesting they didn't name the enemy. The climactic air scene does take place over and in a snowy landscape, but the foe isn't named.
Storylines aren’t great. Acting is ok. Without spoilers the final 50 mins aren’t remotely believable.
So, just like the original then?
And it’s so much fun.
Look roger ebert over here. I bet you’re a blast at parties
Well shit that sounds Oscar worthy by hollywood standards...
Thanks Gene Shalit Jr!
I frickin loved it. It's obviously not a realistic depiction of aviation or military operations. It's quite obviously a pastiche and an homage to the original, but it does it really well. In part because rather than just being a 'new generation' reboot with new characters or a 'lets pretend nothing's changed' continuation sequel, the main character has aged and lived through 30 odd years since the original movie, just like the audience has.
As a 40 something who watched the original as a child this movie actually touched me in more than a nostalgia way as the themes of the movie have shifted from the perspective of a cocky kid trying to prove something to that of a matured man with plenty of scars trying to make peace with the past and to find new meaning in being a father figure, teacher etc.
Aside from being an exciting action movie in its own right, it's also in a weird way a dad movie in the best possible sense.
^This guy gets it.^
Eye roll
This thread isn't for you. Shut up!
Well said Blue, I couldn't agree more. Is the rare movie that my whole family enjoyed. I was especially surprised by how much my teenage son loved it. Is asking how many more times we'll see it in the theater
The electronic road signs on I-95 in Virginia, this weekend, read: No need for speed Maverick"
In Phoenix: “Sober driver? You can be my wingman anytime”
I will admit that my curiosity may get the better of me this weekend, in this case. I am currently in the midst of binging the fourth season of "Stranger Things", but we might take time out for this if we get a good moment here among other activities. I was never an overwhelming fan of the first film - it has entertaining moments, it serves its purpose as films go and all that - but I am curious to see what it looks like all these years later.
On to episode 5 tonight of Stranger Things. Will get out to see Top Gun once the crowds die down a bit. Makes it easier to take my son to fun movies like this. He is 9 and he likes to ask questions...lol.
Have a great weekend all and Thank you for your service to all that served. God Bless You!!
Go Blue!!!
Can we just see the fighter planes, or do we have to look at Ton Cruise too?
You don't have to look at Ton Cruise.
Yes, but you must listen to Com Truise.
In the UK it's spelled Tonne Cruise.
Spoiler alert: there’s a Tom cruise monologue preview thanking you for coming and talking about how they used real airplanes to give you a realistic experience - which in hindsight is hilarious given the absurd last half of movie
It is an ole fashioned 80's style movie. Go into for the fun of it and leave any need for ultra-realistic story at home and you will be entertained.
I hear Val has no spoken lines but did he at least clench his teeth in the same manner that Lalo rings his bell?
That is one hell of a trailer...
More importantly, when's the next Hot Shots?
Watched it last night. Fun movie. I agree with all the posts about the nostalgia adding to the film. The original was a favorite of mine as a kid.
