Top Billin' is back with a film study on Christian "The burner" Turner
He compares him to De'Andre Swift of Georgia
Also drops a muscle relaxant, and a new one - "Sonic Hedge Hogness"
Pretty entertaining, and he talks about troll buckeye fans.
Does Top Billin have have some publicity agents on payroll at mgoblog?
He's probably realizing every video he puts out on a Michigan guy gets a big uptick in views.
He started a pay site for Michigan film study, so yeah, he realized that WE’RE RICH BITCH.
Top Billin' looking for that Michigan fan click revenue.
He is looking for the Michigan Money Cannon to come through for his Patreon account.
Lmao I’ve been wondering the same thing. No disrespect intended, but are his videos considered worthwhile?
Depends on what you want out of it. It's not in-depth by any means. Just a bunch of oohs and ahhs and hype words.
I watched one of his vids where in his intro he said he breaks plays down better than anyone else. I nearly fell on the floor. Mgoblog and especially that Fish guy with the nice graphics are far superior.
They are much better than watching a recruits highlight tape. I'd put it somewhere between that and neck sharpies. Not as detailed as neck sharpies but gives some top level stuff and actually describes players strengths.
Edit: also for people hating on it...do watch any of ESPNs pre-draft or draft coverage? This isn't very different from what ESPN calls "film study" or grudens qb camp. And people eat that shit up.
This dude tries to call these "film study" but it's just him playing hypeman over some highlights. These things are awful.
Well put. I thought I was the only one who saw it that way. I watched a few minutes and didn't learn a single thing about anything. Not really a film study at all.
How does anyone disagree with this statement? Just because there are lines and arrows on the screen doesn't mean this is detailed film study.
I enjoy Top Billin and the commentary is fun
You get to watch clips of the entire squad including the blocking schemes. The slow mo and replay let’s you take time in specific assignments.
You can get a feel for what guys do well and where they might need work. In these particular clips Turner shows burst, vision, patience, and a willingness to run hard.
Plus I’m a junkie for anything football.
So this guys compares Turner to Swift who is most likely going to be one of the first RBs taken in next year’s draft? Lol ok.
Gotta love Murf. This one's a little less X&Os than some of his other videos, but I think he's on point about Turner having a big year. I love his versatility. He has the quicks to get around the corner and the physicality to run inside.
Can't wait to see Turner punish some linebackers dropping into coverage. Gonna be a fun year!
Between Turner and Charbonnet we have more upside in the RB room than we've had in years. And they have the added benefit of a veteran OL and a passing attack that could be terrifying for defenses. I think these guys will be just fine.
Top Billin's hype gets a little silly, but I think Turner is going to be a pleasant surprise for UM fans this year—his injury last season kept him from showing his potential.
Don, do you know what his injury was? I forgot about that, People were always saying he was buried on the depth chart, and was a possible transfer.
At least part of it was a hand/arm issue, I saw him at Mr. Spots prior to the fall open practice with a cast on. Not sure if that was all or if he had multiple nagging issues.
An ESPN article from April about injuries to key Michigan players included "running back Christian Turner (hamstring),"
A 247 article from last December includes: "Battling rumored but unofficial injuries this fall, Turner had only 13 carries for 63 yards in two games."
I know that 13 carries is hardly enough to definitively prove anything, but FWIW I was very impressed by CT's quickness and ability to find a seam in traffic.
One caveat: Turner also missed a chunk of time in HS due to injury, and now he's missed most of his frosh season for the same reason. Some guys never are able to show what they can do because they're never healthy. I hope this doesn't turn out to be the case with Turner.
I thought it was a hamstring injury right before the 1st game.
He was turning heads in camp and then missed the start of the season. After that the rotation was set and the RS was on the table. He impressed again during bowl camp.
People that discount his Freshman season are making a mistake.
Haven't seen enough of Turner to form a solid opinion on him but if he can break through then I think RB production will be just fine. I believe Charbonnet will be good. Throw in BVS, Mason, and Wilson and I'm not worrying about the RB's.
Honest question, why do you feel Charbonnet will be good, but you haven't seen enough of Turner to form an opinion? Turner has actually carried the ball in a college game, and you've never seen Charbonnet in a college uniform.
Is there a dishonest question?
I guess if you know the answer already. But why would you pose a dishonest question on a blog?
I thought Charbonnet looked a fair bit better when comparing HS films, he seemed more college ready. I thought his cuts and ability to change direction were better, even for a bigger guy. Turner is probably faster in a straight line.
Even with having actual carries in college, I'd like to see another game or two of Turner to form a solid opinion. It's going out on a limb to predict a new freshman will be good but I won't be suprised if Charbonnet is #1 by the end of the season.
Star gazing...
Having said that, I loved both guys film coming out of HS.
Turner has shown seriously good flashes in limited snaps. He has shown it at the P5 level.
We have seen so many kids not ready for the jump from HS to College. Zac’s HS film and measurables are awesome. But let’s let him take a few big hits with the speed of the game.
We need both these guys this year. Potential can be an exciting and frightening word.
Unless I missed something, or there's a new Mason on the team, Ben Mason is on defense. And BVS is a fullback. If we're depending on a walk-on, a fullback and DL/FB hybrid, our running will not be compatible with #speedinspace.
If Charbonnet/Turner don't work, I have to believe we would try Barrett or Haskins (if healthy) before depending on Mason/BVS to carry the workload.
Evidently, BVS has been getting some snaps at RB. While I really like our frontline talent we desperately need depth. A couple injuries and we're in a world of trouble. It looked like the walk-on Andrighetto was making some progress but then he blew out his knee. Gotta think they're gonna use some guys like Barrett or Jackson back there too.
Turner is way underrated. This is great stuff.
This again?
chillin' like a villin' with my boi Top Billin'
TB's hype train is fine--it's good to see some talent evaluation and I'm starved for content.
But just because the packaging isn't great, doesn't mean he doesn't make some good points. CT has the potential to win the starting job and be an excellent RB this season. Would not be surprised if led the RBs in carries.
CT has the potential to win the starting job...
I agree. His competition is a walk on and a guy who played in HS last year and just had surgery.
...and be an excellent RB this season.
I hope so because he's probably our #1 RB.
So who is this guy and why should I spend my time on watching him talking about videos?
Because it's the off-season and like the rest of us you're starved for any football content.
Go read Draftaggedon again and stop complaining.
POTY candidate.
Yeah why would anyone on a Michigan football blog want to see any videos analyzing Michigan football players? That's like crazy.
Pistol Pat shirts are cool!
Stay healthy, my dude.
WTF! Is this Icy Hot Stuntaz new gig, or what?
Turner is going to have a big year
FINALLY!
See lots of hatin in the comments. Maybe Top Billin should try to sound like Ron Jaws, Joe Buck, or Keith Jackson.
Send him back!
Mimicking one of them would be a start
I thought Keith Jackson was dead?
