“This was never going to be a blowout game”

Bullshit

a bad pass away from being 24-3 and going away at halftime

still 20-3

zero points in the second half

this staff , particularly the head coach

is not going to take Michigan to the level everyone in the planet expected

and nowhere near it

I think we at least move to 17 and could see 15 just by default.  It'll be interesting to see what happens with Clemson as they dropped 3 last week after a win against Georgia Tech, who might end up with a W tonight against #21 UNC. With Clemson having 2 really bad showings in a row, I could see them dropping to be a top 20 team. If Tennessee wins against Florida, they'll drop to a top 20 aswell. If MSU wins a close game(like it is now) I do not see them getting a better ranking than us and Rutgers is way better than Nebraska.

I know people are still (justifiably) upset at the way the team played and I'm not gonna say they're wrong, but teams lay eggs against inferior competition all the time. Upsets happen all the time as teams match up well/poorly vs certain foes, and teams take some games more seriously than others.

As it pertains to Michigan, I've long said I'll assess what I think of this year's team after the Wisconsin game, and I'll hold myself quiet til then.

This is really on the coaches. Maybe the players lacked energy, but some of the plays, like running on 3rd and long? Passing to All in the back field on a 3rd and long? I feel that Rutgers offense wasn’t necessarily good, but they made you unsure where the play was going, and Michigan doesn’t seem to do that.

Idk, but you look around college football and it’s just like, well, everyone else sucks too!

I love how the MGo community takes every opportunity to put this on the coaches.  Cade missed a ton of open receivers, starting with Schoon at the end of the first half and the entire second half.  When a QB can’t make throws your offense is limited, and allows Ds to stack the box, that’s not the coaches fault.

Rutger ran 5 plays the entire game, there was nothing special about it that made UM “unsure” of what they were doing.  Our defense absolutely dominated them. Rutger got yards but not points, that’s how their offense works.  Being without Ross in the second half hurt big time, but they still came up with stops.

If Cade hits 4-5 wide open receivers on rather easy throws this game is a VERY comfortable victory… not a problem with play calling, a problem with execution.

This is seeming like one of those weeks everyone has a tough time.

Tennessee and Florida are close, Nebraska and MSU is looking to be close, Oklahoma state is way up on KSU, West Virginia is up on Oklahoma, Akron is up on OSU(now tied). I don't expect all the ranked to lose, but this just seems like a trap week.

Iowa easily could've lost. Auburn should've lost.

By the end of the night, there will be at least 5 teams ranked from #5 to #18 who will have lost.  Normally, that would imply UM will move up dramatically in the polls...

However, defeating Rutgers by 7, when you were favored by 20, Rutgers gained more total yards and had more first-downs, implies Rutgers outplayed UM.  Does UM deserve to move up in the polls?  I think UM deserves to move past any team that currently has 2 losses.  That's only a couple of teams though (looking at you Wisconsin, Clemson and Iowa State). UM could move ahead of those 3, but because UM looked so crappy today, UM will likely drop a few spots.  In other words, the upsets tonight, combined with UM's under-whelming performance today will cause the whole thing to be a wash.

Prediction: UM is ranked #20 after the polls are released tomorrow.

Prediction: Wisconsin will be a 2 point favorite in Vegas on Sunday, despite Wisconsin getting knocked out of the top 25 in both polls.

It's cute that you think that any voter, let alone a significant number, is going to spend the time to examine, in any one random game among ALL top 25 teams, (1) the spread, (2) total yardage, (3) number of first downs, or (4) the general tenor and flow of the game.

They will spend 20 minutes total looking at the entire ballot, see that MICH beat a 3-0 Power 5 team and MICH will move up 3-5 spots, whether they actually deserve it or not.

But speaking of deserve it, who are all these teams that are jumping us if all those teams in front lost?  MSU? Auburn? North Carolina? Fresno?  KState?  Every single one of those teams was less impressive.

Perspective isn’t something folks are good at grasping while emotional.

Today was disappointing. More things went wrong today than went well.

But Michigan is 4-0. They’ll enter October still not having faced a deficit yet this season.

Iowa didn’t light the world on fire against Colorado State today. Auburn played a much closer game than anyone expected them to, Campbell and Fleck had afternoons to forget….

And Florida State is an absolute dumpster fire.

Florida was able to have success on the ground against Bama but Bama still feels like they’re all alone.  Georgia will get a lot of hype until they lose to Bama.

After that, no team in college football really looks that good.

Wisconsin won’t be ranked and we will be, rightfully so, but Wisconsin should be the favorite on Saturday. While their offense has been brutal, their defense is easily the best unit between the two teams. Add in home field advantage and it’s going to be tough sledding for us. I trust their defense and crowd to keep our offense at bay more than I do our defense keeping their offense brutal.

I’ve often thought that college football rankings make little sense until after at least six weeks of the season when most teams should’ve played at least two or three conference games. This season is no different. Before I start seriously thinking about rankings, conference championships and bowl projections, I’m content to wait until after most teams have played six games, but I’m okay with looking at where we are now in this wild and wacky season.

We’re at week four and FOUR teams in the Big Ten East have 4-0 records (Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State and Penn State). The team that most pre-season prognosticators expected to win the Big Ten championship (Ohio State) is 3-1, but its only loss is to the team currently ranked third in the country (Oregon).

Only two teams in the Big Ten West have a winning record (4-0 Iowa and 3-1 Purdue). Wisconsin, expected to contend for the college football championship playoffs, is 1-2 and got throttled today by 4-0 Notre Dame, 41-13 at a neutral site.

Only two teams in the Big Ten have allowed fewer than 50 points in four games (Michigan and Iowa), but I suspect that, after today’s performance against Rutgers, many will expect Michigan to lose at Wisconsin next week.

Only five teams in the SEC, considered to be the top conference in the country, are undefeated (4-0 Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky and 3-0 Ole Miss). Only three teams in the Big 12 are undefeated at 4-0 (Baylor, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State) and only two teams in the ACC are undefeated at 4-0 (Boston College and Wake Forest). Oregon’s the only undefeated team in the Pac-12 at 3-0 and, leading 24-19 at home entering the fourth quarter, they’re struggling against winless Arizona. Cincinnati (3-0) and SMU (4-0) are the only undefeated teams in the AAC.

You know what other FBS teams are 4-0?  Army, Brigham Young, Coastal Carolina, Texas-San Antonio, Wyoming and, wait for it . . . Brady Hoke’s San Diego State Aztecs with two of their wins against Pac-12 teams (Utah and Arizona).

So, there currently are only 25 undefeated FBS teams and after two more weeks, that number might be closer to 15.

I've always said after 3 or 4 games have been played. There shouldn't be any official rankings before then.

If they did that it also would've helped the mid-major/G5 teams because they wouldn't have had to climb so far.

I like that the CFP starts late and doesn't use the polls, they do their own thing (or so we're told).
