Thursday GLI Game at Yost Cancelled; Wednesday Still On
Over/Under on how soon Wednesday's game gets cancelled too?

Really sad to see what has happened to the GLI as a tournament. I hope it can be revived, but won't be this year.
Honestly boggles that Michigan protocols shut down one game and not the other. Very weird.

This would imply it’s a WMU problem and not Michigan.

The “within the Wolverines program” part implies it’s Michigan. Unless for some reason Western has an issue and Michigan’s protocol is more strict than Western’s. So Western’s protocol says they’re good to play but Michigan’s says no.

This is the only thing that could make sense to me. Like, Western has a protocol that allows a player to play after, say, a single negative test, and Michigan isn't allowed to play (or be in close proximity to) someone who hasn't had two negative tests, or something like that.
I'm not familiar with specifics of either protocol, just trying to imagine how this would work.

I haven’t heard of any publicly released program protocols that involve the status of opposing team players. Not that they don’t exist, but it would seem strange that it hasn’t come up at some point yet if it were the case. But yeah, seems like something of the sort has to be in place or the article isn’t accurate.

Twitter speculation implies its more of a load management thing ie not enough bodies. Even beyond the WJ guys, you have Holtz and Ciccolini out too.
Not a great look to still play Tech because the implication is we didnt want to probably get dunked on by a good Western team shorthanded but we’ll give it a go vs the crappier Tech. Thats probably what you can read between the lines. Thatll get lots of twitter trolls angrily tweeting but it is what it is

A team spokesperson told the Daily that playing games on back-to-back nights would create wear and tear on the already depleted roster. The spokesperson maintained that the cancellation is not COVID-19 related.

Sounds soft. Why not postpone it a day or two if playing back to back is the issue?

Yeah i agree. Im struggling to come up with a way to justify playing Tech but not Western other than ‘we picked the easier opponent’

We’ve already played Western and it’s not fair to ask MTU to come down for one game in EL, whereas the trip from KZoo to EL for one game is nothing.
If bodies are the issue for UM, they have the option of calling players up from the club team as well. Obviously a bit of a talent drop off there but for a game or two I’d rather do that than cancel.
A few ways they could have worked around this that didn’t include cancelling a game.

Tech is the GLI host, the tournament and game is important to them, it's a team that Mel maintains a connection with, and Michigan has played Western twice already this year.
