I think you're fooling yourself badly.
February 12th, 2020 at 3:29 PM ^
Not a chance in hell.
Anything else on your mind?
February 12th, 2020 at 4:58 PM ^
We have a hard enough time having a maize out at home against OSU.
ALCON:
Quit selling your fucking tickets to OSU fans.
February 12th, 2020 at 3:31 PM ^
Could we? Yes.
Should we? Possibly.
Will we? Unclear. Probability low.
February 12th, 2020 at 3:33 PM ^
You really underestimate how much MSU values this game. I don’t care if they are 1-4 coming into this game, it will be green.
February 12th, 2020 at 5:20 PM ^
Indeed. This mindset that their fans are just going to simply stop showing up when Michigan comes to town is so delusional it should qualify you for handicapped parking.
They showed up in 2016 during their 3-9 season. And as you will recall, they scored a touchdown on the first drive and that place got awfully loud in a hurry.
Bo was 17-4 all time against Sparty and their fans always filled up their stadium to watch the home team get their asses kicked for two decades.
Saban, Williams and John L combined for enough, "Sparty nooooo!!!" moments that could fill a phone book yet the stadium was always packed and rocking for Michigan.
In 1991, MSU was winless. They had already lost to Central and Rutgers. A packed Spartan Stadium saw Desmond Howard destroy their secondary like Charlie Weiss destroying a Thanksgiving feast.
No matter the record, they'll show up for this game.
February 12th, 2020 at 7:45 PM ^
There was quite a bit of Maize in 2016 though. I'd say we had at least 25,000
February 12th, 2020 at 8:05 PM ^
Hey! I'm in this picture! Waaaaayy up at the top.
February 12th, 2020 at 7:17 PM ^
Maybe in the sense that green comes from a combination of blue and yellow?
February 12th, 2020 at 3:33 PM ^
Nope. That only happens to Michigan generally Scarlett and Gray. Our response when this happens is like SNL’s Pete Davidson character Chad. ...ok...
February 12th, 2020 at 3:52 PM ^
Correct. And the reason why OSU can take over Michigan stadium (color-wise) is the same reason MSU could potentially take over Michigan stadium if they were really good. And it's the same reason we probably cant take over either one.
OSU hates us with a passion of the burning sun and knows, right now, they are probably going to see a win in Ann Arbor. So their fans travel.
MSU also hates us with a passion of the burning sun but doesnt think, right now, they are going to win so they don't travel. But if you remember the dark days of RR there was a LOT of green in the stadium.
Michigan doesnt really hate anybody, isnt sure of win at any of our rivals so our fans, so as a rule, our fans don't travel enough to take over either of those stadiums. The stadiums we DO take over (Northwestern, Rutgers, Indiana, Illinois) are because the locals dont really give two shits about football.
February 12th, 2020 at 4:00 PM ^
Actually we send plenty of fans to Spartan Stadium whenever we play there, probably not too different from the proportion of fans that OSU occupies in Ann Arbor. The real difference is that the vast majority of the OSU fans wear red, which stands out visually, while Michigan fans wear a mixture of maize, blue and other colors.
February 12th, 2020 at 4:12 PM ^
I hadn't thought of that before but you're probably right. My guess is OSU still sends more to AA than we do to East Lansing but you're correct - the color contrast of red vs either maize or blue makes them stand out more.
Come to think of it our use of two primary colors (Blue & Maize) versus OSU (always wear just red, not grey) and MSU (always wear just green, not white) dilutes our visual impact when we do travel cause some of our fans are wearing maize and some of our fans are wearing blue.
February 12th, 2020 at 7:06 PM ^
Bigger stadium and more seats make it easier for more fans with the wrong colors. OSU does travel well though and it sucks balls.
February 12th, 2020 at 4:17 PM ^
That's a great point. Every OSU fan seems to wear a bright red coat or a jersey. It feels like a good third of the fans I see around me are wearing brown or tan or some off color, especially when the weather gets cold.
And don't get me started on the attempted maize out games.
February 12th, 2020 at 4:36 PM ^
A few years ago my son bought me a reversible heavy Michigan coat. Navy on one side and maize on the other so I had something to wear to a cold weather maize-out. I’m prepared.
February 12th, 2020 at 4:23 PM ^
Yes last fall I was trying to calculate OSU fans in the big house. My best estimate was 15-20 thousand. I think we send close to that to East Lansing.
February 12th, 2020 at 7:35 PM ^
A bit off with the UM count in Spartan Stadium.
Between my season tix for UM, and my brother-in-law's for MSU, I've seen UM/OSU in East Lansing, and MSU/OSU in AA for the last 20 yrs.
UM shows up pretty well in EL, more for Harbaugh than earlier teams. Much bigger UM crowds pre-Dantonio era, as always has to do with how crappy Sparty was., fans giving up tix.
No one shows up like OSU, name the price they will pay. Some years they outnumber UM fans in EL, but nothing compares to the amount of red in the big house.
It's an insult that so many folks pay for their season tickets by selling the game to buckeyes....... alot of them, every damn year.
It's easy to track the UM "fans" that sit around you for 6 games a year, then get replaced with O-H-I shit chanters.
February 12th, 2020 at 4:15 PM ^
*(cooler-wise)
February 12th, 2020 at 3:34 PM ^
Wouldn't that be neat?!
February 12th, 2020 at 3:35 PM ^
It looked like OSU came pretty close to scarlet-outing Michigan Stadium last year.
February 12th, 2020 at 3:42 PM ^
Could we stop with the MSU posts now? Our whole front page is basically MSU related.
February 12th, 2020 at 3:42 PM ^
If MSU gets torched in all of their games leading up to it, I could see it happening. I don't think any Sparty in their right mind would want to witness Harbaugh and the boys coming in and dropping 50 on them in their own crib.
February 12th, 2020 at 4:07 PM ^
Which could happen
February 12th, 2020 at 4:16 PM ^
could, might even be likely, but i won't count my chickens until they hatch. in EL. all 50 of them!
February 12th, 2020 at 3:43 PM ^
No. Next question.
February 12th, 2020 at 3:49 PM ^
I’d rather see that stadium empty than contribute one dollar to their athletic department.
February 12th, 2020 at 3:50 PM ^
They just made the coaching hire of the century and you think you’ll be able to secure tickets to that game. It will be a white out.
February 12th, 2020 at 3:52 PM ^
We can’t even get the old asses at our own stadium to wear Maize on a Maize Out.
February 12th, 2020 at 3:58 PM ^
But we sure as hell can stripe out! Let's buy t shirts for everyone and sneak them in
February 12th, 2020 at 4:09 PM ^
WD, you sure seem to have a problem with the older generations that attend games. I'm not sure why that is exactly, but I suspect they paid for their tickets and should be free to enjoy their fandom as they see fit. Many, like me, are also probably alumni (although I don't consider 55 to be particularly aged) and have certainly earned that privilege. I've never told a Michigan supporter (alumnus or otherwise) how to experience the Big House. Maybe you shouldn't either.
February 12th, 2020 at 4:35 PM ^
OP said we should maize out spartan stadium and WD replied we can’t even maize out our own stadium, which is true.
February 12th, 2020 at 4:51 PM ^
annnnnd there is why it would never happen, whether it is a home or a road game
February 12th, 2020 at 4:57 PM ^
WD has a problem with anyone who doesn't parrot what he says. Welcome to his troll cave.
February 12th, 2020 at 4:15 PM ^
I’m 64 years old and have had season tickets for 43 years. I wear maize to every game and stand when the rest of the fans do. That included both the ND and OSU games with a torn meniscus. It usually takes a few days for my voice to recover after big games. Not all of us old folks fit your stereotype.
February 12th, 2020 at 4:33 PM ^
You're in the clear. 64 is still considered young for our fan base. 80 is the cutoff.
February 12th, 2020 at 4:38 PM ^
Phew, I was sweating it out. lol
February 12th, 2020 at 6:10 PM ^
WD - you sold your MSU bball tickets. You are just as guilty!
February 12th, 2020 at 7:59 PM ^
WD!!!!
February 12th, 2020 at 9:12 PM ^
Not sure what you’re talking about because we were there waving goodbye at sad sparties as they filed out.
February 12th, 2020 at 4:00 PM ^
You cannot be serious. A new coach always brings positive energy the first year, no matter the record.
February 12th, 2020 at 4:18 PM ^
New coach or not, if they get off to a bad start (very likely) their fans will be selling. People don't like to see their team get embarrassed.
February 12th, 2020 at 4:05 PM ^
Well since their fanbase seems to think they just hired Vince Lombardi I doubt it will be that easy
February 12th, 2020 at 4:16 PM ^
Michigan seems to be the only one who can't even do Maize out or stripe out in the crisler arena where the athletic department literally put the shirts on every seat for the fans to wear yet we can't even do it. I've seen PSU, OSU, MSU, and other NBA teams pull it off without a problem. Why can Michigan do it?
February 12th, 2020 at 4:20 PM ^
Iowa also does it. And having been to a game at Kinnick, their fans are certainly no younger than ours on average.
February 12th, 2020 at 4:38 PM ^
A game at Iowa against Michigan? If so, would you recommend it. I want to go to a few away games but don’t want to be in a bad spot by being treated like shit (avoiding osu, Wisconsin). I often hear Nebraska fans are inviting so I would gather Iowa similar
February 13th, 2020 at 7:18 AM ^
I had an absolute blast. It was the 2016 game. Even though we lost it was a lot of fun. The fans were awesome. One guy who looked in his early twenties even asked me if I was being treated well by everyone. The atmosphere was quintessential college football.
