Thank you 2016 Michigan Football seniors

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

They committed here mostly expecting what they saw us do in 2011 to be what they would be doing.

It did not go like that. They had no idea what they were walking into, truly. Their first season of play was a disaster followed by a 10x worse disaster where lots of things happened on and off the field.

What they did the final two years was fix it. These seniors have laid the foundation for the Harbaugh era.

12-13 from 2013-2014

20-6 from 2015-2016

"Laying the foundation" is not always followed by a 20-6 record in 2 years where playoffs were in the discussion late in the season.

That's a turnaround. This a special group that has put the program back in the national spotlight where it should be.

Thanks for always suiting up and giving it your all. You'll now have a degree from the best University in the freakin country. It was a privilege to cheer you guys on.
Well done!

resilience thru the Hoke debacle and coaching change. They developed, had 2 nice seasons and helped restore the program to competitiveness. They have represented UM well. Unfortunately they take the mantle of "almost" by not making a few more key plays in big games - a great season was dashed three times in the final minute of games. Just needed one more play. One more first down. One more stop. Almost.

Much reslience shown in the face of adversity.

Hell, these guys had to deal with Dave Brandon. I'll cut them some slack just for that.

Sometimes you try your best and fail. It is what it is.

Let's hope the new classes of recruits carry themselves with the same kind of class and dignity as Jake Butt, Jourdan Lewis, Chris Wormley and Eric Magnuson. Let's hope they win more games, also.

The program was on the floor and damn near 'dead' two years ago. IIRC there was not a single first team pre-season All-Conference pick let alone all-american when Harbaugh took over. And the expectation was for a long rebuild even with Harbaugh.

So, while bittersweet and painful to watch them go out w/o a single championship...maintain perspective. First, the resurgence of the program and expectations for the future. But also as fans we have to realise that no one is more dissapointed than those guys. They went out there and battled, got injuried  and laid it on the line and dealt with the criticism like pros. They've grown up right before our eyes and dealt with a great deal of adversity along the way.

Sometimes its more than just wins and loses.

I believe the disappointment is based on just how damn good these players played the last two years. You are spot on. The program has turned around and it's this group that did it. We have some growing to do and we are growing. End of another great season and it's going to continue.

WD with the perspective... we wont forget this group and the willingness to work that they have shown us. Wish they had a more fitting end to their college careers. Thanks for the memories

These guys worked their asses off and went from irrelevance to contention in the span of less than two years. Definitely frustrating to see them not achieve the goals they set out to achieve, but I'm frustrated for them, not at them. They deserve to be champions.

To come up just short of playing for it all....best of luck to all of them in the future. Hope to see them all playing on Sundays

its fun to be relevant again.  Not the results any of us wanted, but we got to be part of the national discourse for 13 gamess.  It's been a long time since that was the case. A huge "Thank You!" to all the players, coaches and staff that work so hard all year long - so that Michigan fans have something to be excited for and proud of once again.  Well done, Wolverines!

This was very much a return to the teams I remember from my youth when Bo was coach. You knew, game in and game out, that the team would have heart and play even the toughest of opponents close. And, with Bo, each season had one or two heart breakers. Harbaugh, because he is so damned competitve, wanted to outdo the old man, so he gave us three heart breakers this season. :)

But yes, during the past decade, I longed for a return to the era of Bo. We now have it. And I think it's wonderful.

I was thining about the seniors at 1:30 AM, and as we all know, we do our best thinking on this blog at 1:30 AM, and it did occur to me that these guyes were around for what was a very low moment in Michigan football in 2014, one that handled differently would have created a situation where we are definitely not sitting here disappointed about an Orange Bowl loss in 2016. I'll put it like that.

They've seen that, but they've seen the foundation for future success laid and have been part of the leadership at the beginning of that success. Even if it didn't turn out quite as we had hoped, there is a lot of praise to go around for their guidance and their contributions to getting the Harbaugh era off to a good start.

A great group of guys who worked their asses off. A decent amount will have nice NFL careers, but unfortunately they did not win a single big game. 1 win against a terrible MSU team, 0 against you know who, 0 Big 10 titles. They won 1 bowl game against a mediocre Florida team. They certainly laid the foundation, but now it's time for Harbaugh and his guys to finish building the house.

Really not a bad team...
Clearly in top 4 of big ten
Still lost 3 games but close
No blowouts
A Few great athletes
Competed with ohio state this year...might not compare well with alabama

deserves so much credit for teaching the younger players how to represent Michigan on and off the field. They made me proud to be a Michigan Football fan again the last 2 years after 7 years of misery.

Where these seniors started in the Hoke/Brandon era, they have accomplished a great deal. We have a lot to look forward to - the future is bright! Thanks seniors for your hard work and dedication.

Thanks for 4/5 years. It's been full of ups and downs and I was happy to see that you guys got to experience at least one victory over msu. Sorry that you never got to experience the joy of beating o$u. Although that is still up for debate!
