Terrance Shannon to Illinois... But the story isn't over there.
TL;DR: In a now-deleted tweet, Hunter Dickinson accused Texas Tech coach Mark Adams of not allowing Shannon to take summer classes and get his degree, sabotaging his player's ambitions to graduate and move on.
Additionally, Jace Howard tweets a similar allegation:
Spicy Stuff here.
Bozo
He's a bit more insidious than Bozo. But still a clown.
Ha! You're the new Pennywise.
No offense, and stay out of my sink!
Story goes
Shannon wanted to attend UM, Admissions suggested go graduate at TTU in spring/summer and come in the summer.
TTU said we aren't paying for your classes you already left
I think the seasons are mixed up. Likely, they wouldn't pay for summer classes. Spring should have already been paid for considering the spring semester ends in less than 2 weeks.
To be fair…I kind of see the TTU side if this is how it played out. If the kid wants to be let out of his scholarship to transfer, then the school is not obligated to pay for his classes after he has completed the current semester. Now the righteous thing to do would be to let him finish so that the young man completes his degree.
I don’t think anyone is arguing that TTU is “obligated” to do anything. It’s just a really bad look for them and something other players/recruits may frown upon.
It doesn’t take much for TT to work with the kid here. The refusal to help out a former player isn’t a good look

Didn't Martelli do the same thing at St Joe's?
Gotta be honest. I don’t know anything about what has or hasn’t happened at St. Joe’s… ever. If Martelli did do this, he should also be criticized heavily.
An NIL deal couldn't be worked out to get this kid a few thousand dollars? Is it still 2022?

How could NIL not step up and pay the kids tuition…In one phone call?
I really like Hunter Dickinson btw.
Bummer if that really did play into it.
Very sad scenario on Michigan's end if they lose out on a great 2-way player in Shannon, now settling for Emoni Bates if the rumors are to be true.
Emoni may have a higher ceiling for success, but his efficiency ratings, defense and overall terrible attitude say otherwise.
The attitude and athleticism concerns with Emoni are fair from what we have seen/heard, but keep in mind he was a 17 year old freshman most of the season after re-classifying to skip his senior year of HS ball. His NBA hype has taken a big hit but he still has a good chance be a great college player. But will he be a great team player...
Players improve and change. If Juwan wants him I trust him.
couldn’t agree more. i’m not wild about the emoni circus, but i trust juwan to make the right call.
Emoni....isn't....going....to....Michighan. More than likely EMU.
Source: trust me bro
Well, I'm convinced.
Can he go to Illinois during the summer and get his classes and then grad school to Michigan? I don’t know if it is even possible but that would be the ultimate punk of Illinois
Not without sitting out the upcoming year.
Actually, he’d earn his degree at Illinois and be eligible immediately as a grad transfer
TTU is garbage
Schedule a game this year with TTU
In March
Salty!
Is secession still on the table down there? Can the rest of the country vote on it? Please. Asking for friends.
Texas is a shithole. It’s just Oklahoma/Louisiana with more money and all the awfulness hidden behind “Austin is so cool and quirky XD”
He couldn't have finished those classes at UM? Washtenaw CC? Anywhere?
If he finishes those classes at TTU, he graduates and gets his degree. Then, when he tries to enter UM, its as a Grad-Student, which is easier from an admissions perspective than him coming in and trying to finish his undergrad and get a UM undergrad degree since he will not have enough UM credits to meet the criteria when he is done.
So UM admissions gave him a way in, and TTU (seemingly) said sorry, we won't help you do that since you are leaving.
National media would be outraged if it was Duke or UNC getting screwed by TT.
Lol. The players know the story.
And now, so do a bunch of recruits.
Sounds like it was more about transfer credits than NIL, no?
Wasn't Mark Adams a guy on the list of backup plans in case Juwan left for the NBA?
if by “backup plans” you mean “some random message board dingbat mentioned his name once,” then sure. i guess.
Could the Michigan Money Cannon not have provided the tuition or scholarship at TTU for a semester to allow him to graduate? I mean, it was clearly just about funding those classes since the coach couldn’t just kick him out of school entirely, right? Wondering if there would’ve been some creative NIL way to make this still happen?
This is my question! Maybe a few thousand $$ to complete his classes, depending on how many there are - surely NIL could have covered that easily. I wonder if there was some stipulation with the scholarship such that he just couldn't get classes coming in off the street, essentially. I dunno...
It sounds like TTU may have a legit case, but not all legit things are the right thing to do. I'm glad that both Hunter and Jace called out Adams for being a louse.
Is the money cannon a tongue-in-cheek term?
In theory - no, Michigan has a massive water cannon.
In practice, yes - Michigan’s usage of said money cannon is closer to water gun when compared to what other schools and states are setting up.
In summary: the circus that is collegiate athletics gets crazier by the day.
But, why couldn't UM make this possible? We are already paying folks, is this the hill we die on?
I’m far from an expert on this, but Michigan can’t work out NIL, or pay his tuition, at another institution. And, they’re not supposed to promise NIL before the kid gets here.
UM is not paying folks. That is still against the rules.

Fergodsakes, Shannon should just take out a loan for the required credits, and then we can make up the difference with some "extra" NIL (wink, wink).
It's not hard.
I don't know where to put this because it doesn't warrant a post imo, but Frankie Collins has completely cleaned his Instagram of anything Michigan related. There was rumors of attrition but Collins was not the person I was remotely thinking it would be
That seems big enough to warrant its own post, my dude
I don’t want him or Bufkin to transfer. Frankie seemed happy for the most part. Even made a post about that Wong or whoever from Miami trying to extort more money to stay and how crazy that was. He and Barnes seem close in their photos though and Barnes was rumored to be unhappy. I hope it’s nothing.
Since that post Michigan brought in a transfer that could play his position
