5 years, $80M with $50M guaranteed.

Congrats to this fantastic Michigan Man, who really seems loved by one of the fastest growing cities in America!

Taylor Lewan is an incredible OT and deserves to be paid.

Taylor Lewan is part of Michigan football history, and is in the conversation for greatest LT to play here.

Taylor Lewan seems like a really unpleasant person, and I'm not just referring to the rape comments.

There is no mutual exclusivity here. We don't have to decide whether someone is a good football player OR a bad person.

You're right of course.  Kudos.  There seems to be a portion of society that treats athletic achievement as an allegory for overall greatness, instead of a nuanced display.

I wonder what drives that allegory.  It seems like symbolism that is instilled at a young age, and needs to be unlearned over the years.

This might be a bad example because TL never did anything this bad, but I remember scratching my head at how people thought OJ was innocent because of his athletic achievements.  How we look at things is fascinating....

Was it “multiple teammates” that reported what TL said regarding the alleged rape victim, or the sister of a player, former girlfriend of TL, and friend of the alleged rape victim?

Look, I’m not saying anything did or didn’t happen but that whole deal stunk from both ends.

I rarely post.  I mostly just read in an effort to stay up on a2.  It's just that the victim's story strikes a chord for reasons I'd prefer not to get into.

Although I "pulled a Dackich" with school, the phrase "Michigan Man" still means a lot to me.  I never had any examples of morality until I stepped on campus, and Michigan men saved my life.

Thankfully, if you read the timestamps earlier in this board, well before you jumped on, Larry and triple A already helped sway me on this issue.

And guess what?  They did it while still managing to be respectful.

Crap!  Now I have to go over to RCMB to confirm that their thread on this topic is at least 3x as large as this one.  The Gibbons / Lewan connection is their go-to thing every time an issue is brought up re:MSU.  (Also they were sure Conklin was going to take his LT job fairly quickly on the Titans.)

I don’t condemn TL for what he did in college, but I don’t think he was a great person either.  I did see an article last year (?) about he and Conklin and how they were bonding while both started families.  Pretty sure Taylor admitted that he had needed to grow up a lot to take the role as a husband and father.  Still doesn’t erase the past.

Does anything “erase the past” ?   Does that even need to be said?    So a player that stuck around, played his heart out here and loves the school and ACTUALLY did nothing to dirty the school name, but because of an angry statement he made about someone whom he thought had made a false rape accusation he’s a bad man and should never be mentioned again n positive terms here again?    It’s threads like these that expose how many self-righteous arrogant posters there are around here.   As an alum myself, and knowing much of that comes from other grads, it’s embarassing.
