Super Bowl - Who're You Picking, Who're You Partying With?

Submitted by xtramelanin on

Mates,

Super Bowl LI is tomorrow and our own Tom Terrific and his NE Patriots play the dangerous Atlanta Falcons.   The Patriots are 3 point favorites, though I think the line was 2 points when the game first was set.  Both teams have done well against the spread, 15-3, 12-6 for NE and Atl, respectively.

Also, many folks will make time to attend or host a gathering to watch the game.  If you are like our house, our ladies spoil us with so many hors d' ouvres that we never even make it to any type of main course for dinner.   We all enjoy watching the game, and I suppose like most people, we want an exciting game, not a one-sided blow out.

So, the 2 questions are these:

1.  Who are you picking to win the game, and extra points for 'why'?

2.  If you're going to be watching it, what's on the menu and where/with whom will you watch?

Have a great weekend,

XM

Patriots will cover the -3. They have been on a mission since the suspension of Brady to win this game and I don't feel Atlanta's defense will be able to stop them (much). On other side Patriots make a living out of stopping the number 1 thing you want to do...aka Julio.

Patriots 34 - Falcons 23 (with Atlanta making it closer than it really was in last 4-6 mins). Brady wins MVP. On a side note I was given 50-1 odds back in October that Patriots win SB, Brady game MVP, and then he would retire. I took the bet because who doesn't like 50-1 odds???? So here's hoping that Brady plays his best game ever and then decides that it's time to enjoy the rest of his life and allows Patriots to turn the reigns over to Garoppolo who needs to be signed long term.

Tom Terrific in this one. He and the Patriots have been on a season-long mission to shove an over-inflated gameball up Goodell. I'll call it 41-24. As for the party, what should we all bring and when should we arrive?

Free trees at xmas and SB invites! ExtraM gives with both hands! If I weren't in Tampa, I might take you up on it!

I have Brady and Co taking this one. The only thing that beats Bill/Brady is super nasty D-Lines. Good offenses aren't going to cut it.

I'm watching with a coworker and his family. Never met his wife or twin 13 yo's, but he is super fun and there are right down the street, so should be a good time. Trying to decide what to bring - its just my wife and I and his fam, so thinking like some guac or something.

Hey now- "Super Bowl" is a registered trademark. The NFL prefers that you use the term "upcoming football competition." You will be hearing from their lawyers.

1. Patriots 31-17
Everyone in the media is now talking about how Atlanta's offense cannot be stopped and is #1 in the NFL. That only wets the appetite of Belichek to show that he can take mostly average players and dominate everyone else. Also...TB12 is the most focused, determined QB who is never fully satiated in his appetite for rings.

2. Watching at my house with friends from church. Going to enjoy some sausage/cream cheese bites, southern caviar, and ham and cheese sliders with a combination of Yeungling, Coors light, and Founders Dirty Bastard... then I may call in sick on Monday

He has given no indication he wants to hang up the cleats at season's end. In fact, the opposite is true. He says he wants to play well into his forties. I'm sure though, like Peyton, once he sees his skills decline, and for those types, it seems to be rapid, simply because they possessed so much more than the average qb, he will not embarrass himself by pulling a "Favre" type decions(s)

With that said, I have never picked against, and I won't start now as to going against the GOAT.

I think your women do a wise thing by a steady supply of hors d'ovures. I think if they asked you all to take time out for a  full meal, it would spoint the flow.

I will choose a local bar - although the Super Bowl is big down here - unless one of the gringos or Canadians host a SB party, its more fun toi watch with a mix of expats and the locals. They are all aware of the biggest stars in any U.S. sport so Tom will, more-than-likely be the man most are pulling for.

at a buddy's ranch.  satellite was a big deal then as we were way off the grid.  the lions were as usual the worst team on the planet and the broncos were having a very good year.  the lions of course did what only the lions could do:  against all odds they beat the broncos like a rented mule.  the locals enjoyed the game and were a pleasure to hang out with.  i think they were glad there was someone to translate the broadcast, too.

Picking NE to win. One for the thumb for Brady. Not sure on food selection yet. Not going anywhere. It's a work\school night at our house.
The NFL should consider moving this game to Saturday to accommodate us working folks.

Life is good Melanin! Rooting for Falcons, but happy for Brady and Branch if the Patriots win. On the Menu: Low country boil and mini cornbread muffins for the entree. Bacon wrapped jalapeño poppers and buffalo chicken dip for the apps. Key lime pie bites for dessert. Scored some Heady Topper (to supplement my Miller Lite) for the Biere du jour. So happy I finally thought to take Monday off. I really wish this game, the NCAA football, and NCAA hoops championships were on Saturdays.

as to the game itself i can easily see how atlanta could win it, and though we will be pulling for NE/Brady, i wouldn't be surprised to see ATL pull it off.

Someone posted a link that contained political commentary and I (kinda angrily) called them out for violating the no politics rule. That set off a bunch of negs from people who agreed with the political commentary, and a big ol' neg from whomever is in charge of the points. No hard feelings, I removed the MGopoints direct link to my credit score a few weeks earlier.

I am in two pools, both with horrible numbers, so there's that - I do have a straight bet with my mom on the Falcons though, only because I made the foolish mistake of letting her choose the team she wanted to put money on first this time.

I'll be making a stew and settling in with a generous helping of wine tomorrow - there's not really a whole lot to a Super Bowl celebration when you're still trying to deal with a new puppy and the rest of your family isn't interested.

I live in Atlanta and all the talking heads down here think this could be a blowout. They're already starting to talk about a potential dynasty. I think Atlanta could definitely win tomorrow, but it's hard for me to pick against the GOAT unless the NY Giants somehow show up on the field.

I think Atlanta races out to an early lead and their defense gets to Brady early in the game. Atlanta goes into the half up by 10-14 or so. But in the second half, Belichek does what he does best. He makes adjustments, and Brady starts getting the offense going. Atlanta's offense isn't stopped, but they're slowed down enough for Brady to chip away at their lead throughout the second half.

Ryan throws a costly pick in the final minutes of the game to give Brady the ball back with a chance to win. He does what he does best: marches down the field and throws the game winning TD with under 10 seconds to go. Ryan heaves up a Hail Mary to Julio, but its batted down.

Brady gets his fifth ring and the personal satisfaction of facing Goodell and snatching the Lombardi Trophy out of his hands.

I lived in Atlanta for almost 20 years. Went through the joy and hope of Mike Vick, to the dog fighting & Bobby Petrino debacle. I'd love to see the Falcons win just for the fans. Vick wrote a letter to Atlanta for the Player's Tribune that was a really good read, link below: http://www.theplayerstribune.com/michael-vick-atlanta-falcons-super-bow…

Because Bill and Tom of course. I think it will not be as close as everyone expects and Pats pull away for a 38-21 victory. All arguements are crushed as to who THE GOAT is and Tom finally gets one for his thumb. Watching with the girlfriend and probably do some wings(for her) and some crablegs. Really looking forward to the silence of some smack talking co-workers this past week, as for what they will be eating...a long steady diet of salty crow!

Go Patriots!

Go Tom!

  1. I'm picking Tom to win another one
  2. Normally we go to a buddy of mines big Super Bowl shindig but this year I think we're just going to stay home and watch it with the family. An 8 week old little peanut probably doesn't need to go to a Super Bowl party.

If my team is not playing I usually root for the team that hasn't had as much success lately. In this case that would be Atlanta, but since Brady is on the Patriots I will be rooting for him to get his fifth ring. So short story long, I'm rooting for the Patriots.

Do know about the food menu yet.

For a long weekend with two great friends. We are all cheering for the Patriots and Tom Brady - he has the experience and personnel around him to get the job done! Go GOAT and go Pats!

This is a Back to the Future game for the Patriots.  Think Indy in 03-06, who you going to stop: Wayne, Clark, any of the RB's, and Harrison?  Who won most of those games, the Patriots.

Yes, Atlanta has looked good, but GB had no RB or DB's.  Seattle was vastly overrated.  Might hang for a bit, but once it gets rolling, the young D will collapse, Blount will blast through, and the Pats win 34-17.  Will be interesting to see how Atlanta responds to getting into the ring with the Champ,  taking that first shot in the mouth and realize this is a different game.

Brady gets #5 and then sends his dad to the PC on Monday to pick up the MVP from pig vomit Goodell.

Next year the Pats have $60 Mil in cap space, plus the biggest trading chip in the offseason, Jimmy G.  Then Brady will quote one of his favorite people "the next one!"

but i guess that is as it should be.   actually, good analysis but i would say that as good as the pats are, it's not like they went undefeated or were never tested.  i also think atlanta has momentum on their side.  i still like the pats for the win, but i'm thinking it will be a great, close game.

I'll be rooting for Brady but my head says Atlanta is the better team.  They have been very impressive the last two weeks in all three phases, so I'm giving the edge in this one to the Falcons.

The line opening up at NE -3 tells me Vegas thinks highly of Atlanta.  They will favor NE as the public always like NE.  Another reason I like Atlanta is that more public action has come in on NE and more sharp money has come in on Atlanta.

Defense wins championships. Brady GOAT. Alan Branch is a beast. Rooting for the Pats and cannot imagine eating anything other than a Dipiazza's Pizza. No gathering, just the family.
