tough break, but not sure if this was ever a recruit where Michigan was in the lead...always a feeling of a toss up.

I confess I don't know much about track, but would have though Oregon is better than South Carolina?

Kid played it close to the vest, but never tried to 'fake out' fans or drop hints only to back track on them, so I respect that.

onto the next kid that wants to play for Michigan

This shouldn't be surprising. The kid wants to focus on track first, and while Michigan has a good overall track program, top-flight sprinters almost never go to northern programs. I figured he'd end up at Oregon but the head track coach at USC is a sprinters / hurdler focused guy who has coached olympians and has been an assistant coach to the olympic team.

This is once again proof that recruits just straight up lie during recruiting interviews. Harbor went on record saying that academics were important to him, NIL didn't matter because he would get it anywhere, and he would go where they would develop him best for track and football. All of those things were lies. He went where the money is and where his GF is

I think in the grand scheme of 5* football recruits, Harbor will not have the best ROI for USC. He probably got between ~$5M if I had to guess and will likely only be an impact player for a year or two

Or, what if South Carolina actually has perfectly good enough academics like any school in the top 200 or so which is the top 5% of universities in this country for achieving his professional dreams combined with a track coach who is a sprinters specialist who has coached multiple olympic sprinters, and being at a program with a head coach who was tight ends coach is actually a perfect fit for a kid who wants to be a TE in college after prioritizing sprinting in his first year in school

Ok ak - this is 5+ replies you've made about how Michigan's academic prestige isn't really all that & any other large public university's is essentially just as good.

1st - WHY is this your particular axe to grind &

2nd - how many more times do you intend to grind it?

Your point has been made, reiterated, repeated, and repeated yet again.

It's just such a corny thing to see Michigan fans huff about academics like theirs is the only school in the world (and also conveniently ignoring how football players at all schools get funneled into manageable degrees anyway.)  Academics means more than US News rankings.  Maybe he liked the academic advising team, met some faculty, something.  It doesn't mean SC is a bunch of cavemen compared to the intellectuals at Michigan.

He's right way more than he's wrong.

Hes going South Carolina.

But I know, denial ain't just a river in Egypt . So theres a chance he's going with Michigan .

This kid is a track athlete in pads.  You simply can’t blame a potentially world class sprinter for going to an SEC school to compete.  8 of the 9 guys in the 2022 NCAA 100 meter finals went to schools in the south….and the other guy was from Oregon.  Michigan has a solid track program, but it’s hard for them to compete for truly special sprinters.  SC has an up and coming football program and apparently his girlfriend is going there???  Those factors didn’t hurt their chance either.  Who really knows how big of a factor NIL was….he was going to get a lot of money no matter where he went.  Kid made what he thinks is the best decision for him…I wish him luck.

In terms of non Michigan places, this might be ideal tbh. It's bizarre, because if he wasn't going to Oregon for track I thought we were by far the best choice. But I think USC Jr means the highest chance of getting him via transfer in a year or 2.

As Sam said yesterday, it had become clear that NIL was a bigger priority as his recruitment was coming to a close. NIL trumped all, including track. We never stood a chance. I'm actually fine with that. Our TE room is set up well. Got Hogan coming in '24. Still after Prieskorn in '24 who I really like. If he was playing DE(where he should be) this would feel like a loss. TE? Meh, move on.

Check out SC’s future schedules. They have almost a 0% chance of winning anything if he stays all 3 years before going pro. 2024 has Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, and Clemson along with other above average SEC opponents. That’s dang near unfair for South Carolina.

Two things can be true at the same time:

More 5 stars >>> Less 5 stars

Guys who are all in on football >>> Guys who aren't all in on football

Harbor has tremendous physical tools and if at some point he decides to focus entirely on an NFL future, he'll most likely be successful.  If that happens during his time in college, he may even help his team significantly.  If he decides to focus on track, well, he'll be ... less useful to the football team.

Regardless, best of luck to him.  Seems like he has a world of potential both on and off the field.

Still not sure how he’s going to prepare for the Olympics and play football. Sounds like they have a plan but he won’t have time for track, football, and school, at least at that level. Crazier things have happened. 10.2 is absurdly fast and he’s already 225 and tall. Would have been fun to at least try it out.

Definitely plus odds he ends his career at South Carolina. Another one of those recruitments where the quotes coming from the kid and or his camp make no sense after the commitment. Good luck Nycholes but you have zero chance of making any Olympic team in 24'.

Honestly dont care - reminds me of the Georgia WR who dropped 30% of passes because no hands.  Should be bulking up to be a great DE on advice of you know...coaches... but instead wants to drop passes forever while training for track. If my comments are wrong in 4 years Mgrowold eats a lemon.

The kid is making a huge mistake. You absolutely do not go to the same college with your girlfriend.

Amateur move. I got a ton of action from some lovely ladies during my time at UM. I can't imagine the options a 5* football player has.
