Star Studded 2023 Recruiting Photo from this Weekend

Submitted by WoodleyIsBeast on March 19th, 2023 at 9:13 PM

If memory serves me correctly, these photos usually end up going well for us....

For those that don't follow recruiting, the recruits from left to right:

Brady Prieskorn: 59th overall player, #3 TE

Jordan Marshall: 83rd overall player, #7 RB

Jadyn Davis: 24th overall player, #4 QB

Blaze Frazier: 213th overall player, #13 OT

Several RB’s I’d rather get than Marshall considering Michigan.

Specifically

Taylor Tatum

Dillin Jones

Lots of guys look like Corum in college football. That hardly means they are a Corum clone.

Marshall would be a good get but there are better items on the menu.

Yeah, we'd take those four.  And a couple more Charley boys, a sprinkling of Ohio 4 stars, a thumping LB or two, the list goes on.  No, that's not being greedy.  Or is it?

Hope they liked the stadium. In the past, they’ve had the recruits run down the tunnel while Grapentine announces their name. I would imagine they still do that.

Everyone says that if this weekend doesn't lock Davis in, night need to open things up a bit

Who is “everyone?” Because the only person I’ve seen say this is EJ Holland after JD Davis’ dad personally reamed him out to Sam Webb about how Holland was falsely reporting Davis’ recruitment and ever since then, Holland has been putting a weird negative spin on Davis’ recruitment including being weirdly persistent on Michigan expanding their board at QB

Davis literally just met Kirk Campbell in person. If in a couple weeks we don’t have a decision or he doesn’t have a return trip planned, then maybe we consider opening things up, but right now? No

I think you give him a few days to get home and think about it.  If he doesn’t commit this week….you start opening things wide open again.  Davis is a really good QB, but not sure you can keep delaying any longer.  There is a new QB Coach, but by all accounts it’s an upgrade.  If Davis isn’t sold on Michigan by now, it seems like he’s trying to find an excuse to not be sold on Michigan.  I do think Davis does ultimately end up committing to Michigan, but if he doesn’t do it soon after this weekend, then something is wrong and it might be time to move on.

Dude, he just met me Kirk Campbell in person. The fact that people are really saying that we should move on from him if he doesn’t commit in like a week after he just met his position coach in person for the first time is crazy. Give the kid time. We have time. It’s still almost a year until signing day and the staff is not going to allow for another Dante Moore situation

Yes, you are right. He just met his potential position coach in person for the first time.  Pretty sure they’ve done plenty of talking before meeting in person.  The kid has been to Michigan a million times and knows he’s the potential face of this class.  After meeting Campbell face to face and being with all these other top commits/recruits again…what else is there to see?  As a position coach, Campbell could be gone tomorrow.  Davis and his dad have to know you base your decision on much more than who your position coach is.  I agree that Davis should do his due diligence, but if he doesn’t commit soon after this weekend then there is probably something wrong.  You simply can’t (or shouldn’t) wait forever for your QB recruit to make up his mind.  I’m not on the coaching staff, so my opinion doesn’t matter.  I just threw it out there and ultimately I trust these coaches to do the right thing.

By all accounts he was set to commit, and then our head coach decided to leverage the NFL to get...whatever handshake deal he got that still hasn't been announced but totally means he's never going to look at the NFL again like he said...last year.......and then his position coach and recruiter committed "computer crimes" and got the boot.....

I think we can forgive him for needing to wrap his head around things a bit and taking some time.

Yes we should have other options in the pipe but we always should have - this only recruiting one guy thing is nonsense. Apparently Campbell agrees and is getting loads of QBs coming up on visits for the next couple classes.

I think we're in good shape here and ultimately I think better off for the coaching situation with Jim staying and Weiss leaving, but Davis is going to do what he's going to do. Hopefully it's commit soon. If not, you keep on him and get your other options moving.

Is anybody saying we should move on from him?  They are saying that we are putting all our eggs in one basket like we did last year with Moore and as long as it is taking... can we really afford to do that two years in a row?  QBs are different, they tend to commit early and lead the class.  Just look at how many current recruits seem to be waiting for us to land a QB commit.

Yeah you dont move on.  You recruit the living hell out of him.  But you also start going after 1 or 2 others hard before its too late.  Recruiting starts well before a year, so when you say you have almost a year left, well, for some kids it is already too late.

You go after him hard, yes.  But you have to start going after others hard, and maybe not even hide it.

Just by reading the headlines of the pieces Sam Webb has up on TMI, it seems the weekend went really well with Davis.  I don’t have a subscription to 247 but just by the headlines it would seem that he’ll be in the fold sooner than later….at least hopefully.  I haven’t had a chance to listen to what Sam said on his radio show today, but I’m sure he gave some good updates there.

not disagreeing with what youre saying but we've heard this for about 4-6 months. "Any day now"...  part of being a cornerstone qb in a class is committing early so you can bring guys with you and create momentum. usually that's a year in advance for the top qbs. More than half the top 20 QBs in 2024 are committed.

Sure seems like we’re primed for a flurry of 2024 top target commits.  Does it finally happen this week?  I do wonder if there are some silent commits who are waiting to publicly announce their commitments after Jadyn Davis (hopefully) finally commits.  Recruiting is all about momentum and getting Davis and then a handful of big time commitments after him would sure create recruiting buzz for the program.  I could be dead wrong, but I’m hopeful this might be what’s going on.  🤷‍♂️

If they were smart they’d get the ok from JD and put together a momentum announcement schedule with a bunch of dudes committing over a weeks time. All the sudden all of the bag a bunch of dudes and I think you turn some more heads vs letting them trickle in. Signing of the stars part II? Something to get these the attention it deserves, if it happens
