Sponsor Note: CFP Seats, No Fees

Submitted by Seth on December 13th, 2022 at 2:33 PM

Ed--This is a reminder to use our sponsors if you're trying to secure seats for the Fiesta Bowl or the game Michigan goes to if they win the Fiesta Bowl. No, not just because they're helping to pay for MGoBlog. With high prices, the mark-ups are going to make a much bigger difference than usual. It's going to matter more than usual when the price they say is the price you pay.

-------------

On the secondary market, TicketIQ has Fee-Free tickets for the Fiesta Bowl and College Football Playoff National Championship game. That means our customers save between 15%-25% compared to other secondary market ticketing sites like StubHub and VividSeats.

Ticket prices for the Fiesta Bowl are currently averaging $923 with a get-in price of $503 for standing-room only, and $588 for a standard seat in section 439. Prices for the championship game are going for as high as $3,712 for seats in section 109.

Pregame tailgate tickets and parking passes are also available. Currently, there are just over 4,000 tickets available on the secondary market.

Those prices are insane! I'll happily watch the game on my 75" OLED.

Hell, you can buy an OLED for the cost of one ticket.

But to each their own....

Or...being optimistic, the kid with the NCAA dynasty that we are all just living in the simulation of, has seen the error of his ways and has decided to become a Michigan fan. We are now entering the golden era of Michigan football that will span for many decades and this will be an almost yearly thing!

I took my kids last year and we had 40yd-line seats high up, about 5 rows from the top. But pretty good view.  They were about $350 each.  Interesting that the same tickets are twice as much this year.  Not sure what that says.  The game was predominantly UM fans.  So, this year, are TCU fans much more motivated than the UGA fans were last year, thus increasing demand?  Or, are UM fans more inspired?  I don't really get it.

I didn't realize they were a site sponsor. Currently, they have the cheapest tickets of the three major secondary vendors by about $50. Are people still thinking prices will drop after the semis?

Your problem is they will likely go up if Michigan makes it and down if we don't. So if you buy now and Michigan makes it its great but if you buy now and we lose you are probably losing money. Historically the tickets of the championship go down after the semis. Nobody has any incentive to sell now and you have four potential fanbases considering whether to buy. If you wind up with a Georgia/TCU championship its a small fanbase and a fanbase who just won last year, its going to drop. If you get Michigan/OSU it will be the most expensive ticket of all time.

I'm personally waiting, not trying to have a situation where Michigan loses and I lose money.

If you can afford to, please go to the Fiesta Bowl! I will be going but most others I ask about it, even those with access to face value tickets, seem interested in making the trip out west only if it's for the championship game. I'm worried we're going to end up with a pro-TCU crowd

I’ll be staying in the suite to watch this game. Nothing like premium couches with seating for 10, A/C and heating, massive 4K TVs, complimentary parking near the entrance, nearly-unlimited beer and liquor, and a private bathroom only feet away.

Sure, it may be my living room, but that’s besides the point.

Am really hoping the ticket prices come down as I'm hoping to get to the game, but a get in price of $500+ is a bit too rich for my blood. Happy to use Ticketiq.com too as it's nice to see the actual price right off the bat! Hidden fees suck.

Just purchased Michigan basketball tickets on ticketiq for my family (Christmas gift!).  Checkout was very simple, tickets were emailed to me minutes after.   Best yet the prices were lower than any other site I checked!  Glad to hear they are a sponsor of MGoBlog as I will for sure use them again.

Assuming a Fiesta Bowl win, I’m in SoCal and thinking of tailgating at Sofi and trying to get something cheap around game time.

Anyone have any thoughts or ideas whether that would work?

Tickets are electronic so buying them with cash will be difficult unless you manage to find someone who has tickets, wants to sell them on the spot, and is technically savy enough to do the online transfer on the spot.

Your best bet is to wait a week before the national championship game when the semifinal losers dump their tickets and then buy the tickets through TicketIQ or another online ticket broker.

For Alumni Association Members: I received an e-mail yesterday about the Alumni Association packages. At the bottom of the email was a description of a lottery for alumni living in Southern California.

Game-Day Packages
With 20,000+ U-M alums in Southern California, we want to make sure our local Wolverines have an opportunity to get involved if Michigan advances to the CFP National Championship. As a result, we are offering a lottery for Game-Day Packages for Alumni Association members living in Southern California

Entry for the lottery closes at noon ET on Monday, Dec. 19, after which we will verify eligibility of those who have entered and randomly select those who will have the opportunity to purchase Game-Day Packages at a later date.

At the end of this section is a link to enter the lottery; I believe this is customized to the e-mail recipient so not copying here.  The projected cost for the tailgate and a game ticket is $600-$700.

Not to be pedantic… oh who am I kidding this site is made for pedants. TicketIQ isn’t “fee free” they just include the fees in the listed price. Which is an option on StubHub that’s trivially easy to turn on.

That said the prices do seem to be genuinely cheaper (example - a ticket that was $888 on TicketIQ was $960 with fees on StubHub, although the listed price without fees was lower than TicketIQ).

Happy to support a sponsor, just a peeve about the way it’s advertised.

Let me rephrase then. They don’t itemize fees into the cost when you check out. “What you see is what you pay” is true. (It’s also true on StubHub if you click a button)

But they are definitely building “fees” into the price somewhere. For the same ticket (dummy numbers here but reasonably accurate % wise for the Fiesta Bowl seats I was poking around at): If seat A is $100 on TicketIQ, StubHub will list it at $90 but then tack on $20 of fees at checkout for an out the door price of $110.

“Fee Free” implies that TicketIQ is selling for the StubHub price minus the fees. Which is misleading. They are just charging lower fees and not itemizing the bill. It looks like their fees are about half what StubHub charges.

Still a better deal! But as I said, I’m being pedantic.

Up front yes, but “transparent” is in the eye of the beholder. StubHub has a ton of ridiculous fees, but they do list them. At least you know how hard you’re getting screwed I guess?

I suspect both sites are taking a cut that is pretty exorbitant for what amounts to shuffling a few bytes between two email accounts. I’m curious how much of a $500 ticket actually goes to the seller on each site.

I get that it’s a business, but I’m not inclined to cut any ticket broker a lot of slack on marketing slogans alone, whole thing seems like a huge racket.

(And MGoBlog is a business too! I certainly don’t begrudge them seeking sponsorships and will gladly prefer to do business with their sponsors within reason)

If they charge half of StubHub I would like to cast my vote as: Foreieitttt!!

Do not forget the charm of honest to goodness street scaplers. Get yourself a human interaction. Take a chance. You might have a good time & make lifetime memories. But try to buy after kickoff.

Bought 4 together @ $725 ea in Section 138 last Tuesday on TicketiQ for the MGoWife, MGoBro and MGoSisinLaw and am pleased with the deal. Airfare from CLT and hotel were pricey as well, but no regerts.

This is the cost of having an elite team in semi-final playoff games!

The prices will be way cheaper days before the game when the fans from the losing teams in the semifinals dump their tickets. The same was true for basketball in San Antonio.

you are comparing a final four basketball where most tickets are sold as all session tickets to football playoffs where tickets are sold to individual games? I don't think the four schools involved for football playoffs are given tickets in advance for the final where the losing team would be looking to dump them.
