Sparty beats PSU

Makes next week critical.  We can eliminate MSU and PSU with two wins, making it a two horse race...

Crazy.  Never expected it.

Next week, ratings, W-L records, predictions all mean nothing. Gosh I can’t stand Dantonio & that whole program. Beat Wisconsin tonight and start gritting your teeth for next week.

So, that effectively leaves only Michigan, OSU, and Wisconsin as B1G teams that could possibly make the playoff.

All other Big Ten teams have two losses.

After tonight it will be down to Michigan and OSU (hopefully).

I will credit MSU for forcing PSU to play the game that they wanted to play, and what an incredible choke job by the Nittany Lions in that final quarter. It was classic "Here, take this win. We don't want it."

This is why I like Fitzgerald when it comes to Sparty.  He doesn’t let MSU dictate the game, he doesn’t square peg/round hole it, he finds their weakness and attacks it.  While the likes of us, OSU, PSU fall into rock fights with MSU.

Living in EL just got more fun with this result ?

MSU offense is Lewerke, 1 very good receiver, and a serviceable TE.  The rest is completely...not scary at all.  Yet they somehow pulled that game out.

Very weird that Penn State was able to get all kinds of pressure on Haskins against OSU (until late in the 4th), but really not very effective at getting pressure on Lewerke today.  MSU's o-line has been bad before today.

A dropped interception with a minute left in the game. And not just a dropped interception but probably the most accurate ball werke threw to anyone all day. A ball no college athlete should ever drop. You would almost have to try not to catch that pass. Ugh.

James Franklin remains a terrible in game coach.  MSU does the most Sparty thing ever by losing to NW at home and then pulling one out of their rear ends at PSU.

I think Penn State is a team entirely fueled by hype. If they're feeling themselves they are incredibly tough to beat. But, if they don't have much to play for, they're weak. This week I was on here arguing how important the mental game is and how important it is for Michigan to get in the right state of mind. But no one rides momentum and confidence better than Penn St.

After Michigan stomped them two years ago, they went on a TEAR that continued into last year. But since they blew that game against Ohio St. a few weeks ago they've come back down to earth. I hope Michigan crushes them.

anyone who said MSU was dead.....yeah, you’re an idiot.

this is what they do. Year after year. Drag their opponents down into the mud and make them play an ugly game. Exactly the way MSU wants it.

I find Dantonio to be a objectively noxious individual.  He is, however, a great coach whose particular strength is getting his players to play far above their level.  In addition, he is creative and gutsy.   Honestly, at a blue blood program, his cultural message wouldn’t resonate.  At MSU it’s ideal to be honest. Be prepared for a brutal game.

Sparty got lucky in a bunch of ways. How many of their own fumbles did they recover? Penn State also choked. I don't mind MSU going in to the Michigan game following that win. they perform better as the angry resentful underdog. Unless all their injured players return (which wouldn't surprise me) they I'm not worried about next week. They're not very good at all.

This was the best case scenario for us  Ped State was always the bigger threat.  They're now out of the East hunt and won't have as much to play for when they roll in early November.  Sharty is seriously banged up on offense, and there is is no way they hold up to our defense.  Their offense has been inconsistent at best.

Penn State lost because 1) they committed a ridiculous personal foul after stopping them on the goal line and 2) the refs gave Sparty a GIFT defensive holding penalty on a play that would have held them to a punt.

Add to that the unbelievable propensity of field goal Franklin to try to continuously run the ball instead of throwing against a pathetic secondary the game eventually turned sparty’s way. They lucked into that win. They did not earn it.

Looking at Penn States body of work I think we can say they are a good team but not great.  They clearly have significant faults.
