he and hammerstein were some of the guys that were part of our group.  good guy.  and IIRC they listed mike m. at 6' 1" and 225, but he was more like 5' 11 1/2"  and maybe 215.  tough, smart, heck of a player.

Wow.  That's a lot of experience to have as an analyst.  He's 60; wonder if this is coming home for his final trip or maybe to hang and see if he can catch a position coach slot in the coming years.  Good add.

This is awesome.  Glad to see Mike coming home!  I was a student trainer from '82-'86 and he was such a stud linebacker. Undersized, but you can't measure the heart of a man...he was a tackling machine!  His intensity was unmatched on game day, before every game in the locker room, you would hear a guy puking his brains out in the stall and it was always Mike Mallory (it was loud, everyone heard it). We had to put a hydration plan in place for him before every kick off so he was ready to roll.

They're probably expecting Minter to look to jump to the NFL again next year. Clink would probably get the full DC title like Minter had and not coach a specific group. Mallory's background is Special Teams and DB's,  same as Jay's current title. My guess Jay would solely coach one of those two groups and Mallory would slide in and take the other.

It has been nearly 40 years, but he was really a good dude.  I had a class with him my Junior year.  He was always in class, attentive, and willing to chat about the subject matter and football, of course.  We are both coaches' sons, so there was that connection about being brought up loving the game as well as having additional motivation, focus, and discipline because of who we are.  There was a reason he was team captain.  Just a great addition in my book.

Is this the kid that showed up in the first row behind the IU bench for a Michigan game at Assembly Hall wearing his M letter jacket? Bobby Knight was not happy that day.
