Sweet!
As an analyst.
This gif deserves all the upvotes it can get. Classic.
An analyst moonlighting as a shower curtain ring salesman to pick up some extra cash on the side.
Del is one hell of a salesman. He even convinced me that wolverines make good house pets.
He’s got nice big pillows
.......those aren't PILLOWS!!
Succession planning?
If 'succession planning' was true for every assistant hired, we'll have a lot of head coaches when Harbaugh retires. Jaybaugh, Minter, Clink, Hart, Moore, and probably others... And now Mike Mallory.
For what? Certainly not head coach as he is as old as Harbaugh without the head coaching experience.
Great news but terrible article. It didn’t mention that Mallory played at Michigan and was a teammate of Harbaugh’s.
I thought he was already with Michigan.
Spiritually
Mike Mallory's brother, Doug, joined the Michigan football staff as a defensive analyst just before the 2021 season.
I had read this news about Mike Mallory before today.
I read it a day or two ago as well
Yeah, it seemed like it was old news.
Maybe I should have posted it when I first read it.
he and hammerstein were some of the guys that were part of our group. good guy. and IIRC they listed mike m. at 6' 1" and 225, but he was more like 5' 11 1/2" and maybe 215. tough, smart, heck of a player.
Mike Hammerstein is one of the best football names in history. Michigan has had some great names -- Jarrett Irons, Sam Sword..........Jake Butt.
And it's Hammer-SHTEEN! Young Frankenstein reference for those that care.
Don't forget Glen Steele, Buster Stanley, Mercury Hayes and the mellifluous yet underrated Ninef Aga Kahn.
Not to overlook Ali Haji-Sheikh, Tshimanga Biakabutuka...and Rich Strenger.
You're welcome, Strenger.
Mike is one of my all-time favorite players. I remember UM playing MSU in 1985, and there was a lot of hype around the MSU game and George Perles' team. UM blew them away in East Lansing 31-0. When a reporter asked George what happened, he said, "too much Hammerstein"
Was his son the top TE recruit that chose MIami (YTM) over Michigan?
Hopefully this addition to the staff is a positive for future asst coaching options.
Yes. And Will Mallory just ran the fastest 40 at the combine today.
EDIT- Fastest among tight ends.
Wow. That's a lot of experience to have as an analyst. He's 60; wonder if this is coming home for his final trip or maybe to hang and see if he can catch a position coach slot in the coming years. Good add.
This is awesome. Glad to see Mike coming home! I was a student trainer from '82-'86 and he was such a stud linebacker. Undersized, but you can't measure the heart of a man...he was a tackling machine! His intensity was unmatched on game day, before every game in the locker room, you would hear a guy puking his brains out in the stall and it was always Mike Mallory (it was loud, everyone heard it). We had to put a hydration plan in place for him before every kick off so he was ready to roll.
Head puking analyst. We will no longer be outpuked! Take that, Frost, not that you matter anymore.
Lol, no shit. Intense is probably an understatement. I was just about to post the same thing when I saw your post. Still came out of the stall laser focused, It was something to behold.
Um…why was he puking? Doesn’t sound like something to admire
Scott Frost begs to differ.
I always assumed game day nerves
Cool. Let’s bring Mike DeBord back while we’re at it.
They're probably expecting Minter to look to jump to the NFL again next year. Clink would probably get the full DC title like Minter had and not coach a specific group. Mallory's background is Special Teams and DB's, same as Jay's current title. My guess Jay would solely coach one of those two groups and Mallory would slide in and take the other.
First order of business- why tf did you let your kid go to Miami, Mike? /s
Eminem!
this pleases me
It has been nearly 40 years, but he was really a good dude. I had a class with him my Junior year. He was always in class, attentive, and willing to chat about the subject matter and football, of course. We are both coaches' sons, so there was that connection about being brought up loving the game as well as having additional motivation, focus, and discipline because of who we are. There was a reason he was team captain. Just a great addition in my book.
Love me some Mallorys. His dad was obviously an accomplished head coach in his own right, but encouraged all his boys to play for Bo.
Is this the kid that showed up in the first row behind the IU bench for a Michigan game at Assembly Hall wearing his M letter jacket? Bobby Knight was not happy that day.
This is an awesome hire!!! We get Mallory back in A2, making great even greater!
