Snap counts and PFF grades for Saturday
Wyatt do y'all think? Does this line up with what you saw or was PFF too hard on us? Grant was the only one I was really focused on on defense and I definitely agree he had a great game.

Knock out the two long TDs and the two kneel downs and we ran 31 times for 96 yards against OSU. So that was the difference in ypc.
September 3rd, 2023 at 5:48 PM ^
How many touchdowns would Roman Wilson need to get better than a 77? This is questionable
September 3rd, 2023 at 6:24 PM ^
He also had a bad drop, which probably reduced his score some. And I believe this includes run blocking grading too, so he could have had a poor blocking score to drag it down a bit

Yeah, I get that there is more to it, but I generally don't buy the premise that there is a free source of expertise that can pump our reliable data like this in 24 hours. If they're really that good at this, why can I just see it on Twitter?
September 3rd, 2023 at 7:10 PM ^
you can just see it on twitter because someone that paid for it posted there
sort of like when you see people here post paid insider stuff

77 is a pretty high grade and he didn't play amazing outside the touchdowns imho.
September 3rd, 2023 at 5:55 PM ^
Jenkins should get at least a 5 pt bump for perfect performance during I Can’t Turn You Loose

JJ looked unbelievable. His ability to calmly navigate around pressure is what stood out to me. It used to be an immediate rollout toward the sideline to the right followed by a lot of scrambles. Yesterday he was just shifting around without closing off half the field unless absolutely necessary. The look-off throw was high level quarterbacking as well.
September 3rd, 2023 at 6:26 PM ^
That was my biggest takeaway from the game. JJ's pocket awareness was 100 times better than last year. He calmly shifted around in the pocket, whether it was climbing aggressively, shifting a couple feet to the left, rolling out to escape pressure. He made the correct decision almost every single time
If he keeps doing that he's going to have a stupendous year and it will take our offense to the next level.

Every issue people have complained about since yesterday is very correctable. I thought Michigan looked great yesterday and I can be super negative about how Harbaugh does things.
I know this I've watched Michigan since the late 80s and it hasn't been a ton of times Michigan has went to the air when other team is screaming 9-10 guys at line of scrimmage. This happened quickly yesterday.

I mean yes it's fixable, but it's just unsettling seeing what's supposed to be your best unit performing the worst. Every other position group had a great game.
September 3rd, 2023 at 7:17 PM ^
Remember that unit has options and Pass Pro was pretty darn good
September 3rd, 2023 at 6:44 PM ^
All I know is that the throw from McCarthy at 9:18 of the third quarter is something we haven’t seen from a Michigan QB in a long, long time.
September 3rd, 2023 at 6:54 PM ^
There were a couple throws he made you couldn't even see until after you watch him make it again on replay -- i was very impressed.
September 3rd, 2023 at 11:56 PM ^
That was a Chad Henne throw.
September 3rd, 2023 at 6:51 PM ^
I do hope we can slow the hype train on Drake Nugent, as if he’s going to be close to the guy who was a Rimington finalist before he got here.
September 3rd, 2023 at 7:11 PM ^
That was my biggest letdown of the game. He got knocked around a bit more than he should have against that line.
I don't think we should expect Olu Part 2. He'll probably be good but maybe not All-American level like we might have hoped for
September 3rd, 2023 at 7:18 PM ^
Or he loses his job because unlike most years there are other options
September 3rd, 2023 at 7:30 PM ^
We knew what we had in Keegan and Zinter coming in. Barnhart, Jones, Hinton, Henderson, Nugent and Crispin are vying for those other three spots. By the Rutgers game it’ll be figured out if not sooner. I feel like it’ll be Jones, Keegan, Nugent, Zinter and Barnhart at that time.
September 3rd, 2023 at 8:34 PM ^
Crispin Glover ?
September 4th, 2023 at 9:34 AM ^
This line is going back to the future.
September 3rd, 2023 at 6:53 PM ^
I was really happy with Josh Wallace's performance -- came in and played like a well-seasoned athletic veteran! That interception he had was spectacular skill, while also being exactly in the right spot he needed to be for the play called.

Those numbers appear about right to me — except as someone said Roman Wilson probably deserved a bit more. Meh scores for O line esp tackles = yep, that’s what it looked like live. Ditto for edge. DTs esp Grant looked good. Secondary got a little grade inflation from easy competition to my eye, but all in all: these scores seem about right. JJ’s could’ve been even higher — did almost everything perfectly.
September 3rd, 2023 at 7:46 PM ^
My 2 thoughts…
You’ll see a huge jump next week
We need to bumble wrap JJ
September 3rd, 2023 at 8:14 PM ^
JJ needs to be protected at all costs. It's quite apparent that if something happens to him the season is over.
September 4th, 2023 at 9:36 AM ^
Protect him with a transformer?
September 3rd, 2023 at 8:19 PM ^
Sabb isn't on list, neither is Berry.
September 3rd, 2023 at 8:20 PM ^
It’s game one, but JJ looks in complete control and he won’t put up the same numbers as Caleb Williams because USC will have to out score several teams this year, but he is looking like a true Heisman candidate. Although I do think voters get tired of hearing the same names all the time, and our big games are at the end of the year, which should help with a late surge.
September 3rd, 2023 at 8:33 PM ^
Their numbers are a travesty. They graded JJ way too low.
September 3rd, 2023 at 8:53 PM ^
I agree. Dude completed 87% of his passes for 3 TDs and zero int's. How was he in the low 90's?
September 4th, 2023 at 10:59 AM ^
You do realize that breaking 90 is almost impossible with PFF, right? He had two throws that were off target and fumbled a hand off which makes him not perfect I suppose.
September 4th, 2023 at 7:53 PM ^
I guess I should've put the /s in there. I was being a complete and total Homer :)
September 3rd, 2023 at 9:44 PM ^
I'm more worried about our backup QBs. So far they have not looked too good. If JJ gets inured and has to stay out a few to several games we could be in big trouble.
September 3rd, 2023 at 9:57 PM ^
I’m curious as to why Hinton started over Henderson? Hinton was billed to be a project while as Henderson was billed to be that guy. Hinton ended up heading out 2nd worst of all O linemen and the o line needs time to work on Chemistry. I would think the coaches saw Henderson was better in practice yet still started Hinton?
September 3rd, 2023 at 11:41 PM ^
The coaches talked about "trying out" the various tackles in the first two games. This is by design and doesn't mean players we saw Saturday are seen as better than those on the bench. Different tackles will play against UNLV.
No concern until Game 3 with the OL. It's live-fire practice in the first two games.
September 4th, 2023 at 9:38 AM ^
Left side right side.
September 4th, 2023 at 12:02 AM ^
These seem to match my untrained eyes. Secondary looked good, Grant was awesome, WRs pretty good, JJ awesome, OL not great, Stanford guys pretty disappointing debut.
September 4th, 2023 at 12:17 AM ^
Wyatt do I think? I Shall, man, have to think about it
September 4th, 2023 at 1:15 PM ^
My thoughts are wow nice grade Kenneth Grant and I don’t know who Keychain Harris is which is bad and I should feel bad.
