Sitting in the Student Section

Submitted by SBayBlue on September 6th, 2019 at 12:44 PM

My daughter and I, as well as her friend and dad, are traveling to A2 for the Rutger game and a campus tour. The girls are prospective students.

I want them to have the full experience at the game by sitting in the student section. We went to a game last year at Wisconsin for the same reason and they had a blast.

How difficult is it now to enter the student section without a student ID? I did a search and all of the posts seemed to be from 8+ years ago.

Do we buy a regular ticket and somehow move our way to the student section?

First off you stand in the student section, if you sit you will be ridiculed, chided, vilified, and possibly eviscerated. Obey all rules as stated on the back of your ticket and on Mgoblue.com or I’ll throw your prospective butts out on Keech Ave. Yeah ...don’t ask an usher. Don’t hate me just telling you the AD’s policy. As a student over 30 years ago I sat wherever I wanted in the NW corner.

Seats are assigned. If you want to sneak in, you'll likely have to move in from another section and move to the back wherever someone hasn't shown up (and then you can move down as the game goes along).

If you want legit seats, you can buy tickets from a student and then get them validated at the ticket office for $40 additional each. That lets you walk through the student entrance without any hassle. Easiest way to buy tickets from a student is through U of M student facebook groups. Although, it probably won't be super easy to buy 4 tickets together. So maybe you could buy two student tickets together for the girls and two normal ones for the dads.

Student tickets to Rutgers will likely be very cheap.

Nobody cares about assigned seats, section is governed by stadium staff but that is about it. If you want to do it above board you can buy a student ticket and get it validated for a fee to be used by a non-student. If you know anyone currently at the school its not that hard to get the mcard of someone not going, they don't check that closely.

You can also probably sneak into the student section at the stadium, the portion you have to go up to get to will likely be pretty bare during a rutgers game.

You can buy a student ticket and get it validated for $40 I believe. Basically, you'll have to pay an extra $40 compared to what normal students pay on the secondary market.

From someone's account of experience (last year), it's fairly easy to buy a ticket right next to the student section, go in through that section, and then maneuver your way to the student section, although it takes a bit of precaution. If you want to be extra careful, you could have just the two girls do so since they look the part, though I think that's unnecessary.

I don't know what normal prices are since I'm a student, but if you do choose to buy student tickets instead, I have 2 that I'm willing to sell at a low price!

Section 34 is split this year between students and non students. Buy tickets in section 34 online and then when you walk in just go to student section seats instead of regular. Might have to start higher with 4 together and work your way down throughout the game as students realize they would rather party than watch a massacre of Rutgers.

It's Rutger.  Wait until it's almost kickoff and buy the cheapest 4 tickets you can find from a scalper.  You might not be near the student section, but I just saved you $200.

Tickets will be dirt cheap and abundant.

Well, if Rutger doesn't do any better than last year, they may as well make it Family Day and have activities like face painting and pie eating on the sidelines during the game. They could even have a field goal competition at halftime, the winner being given tickets to a better game and an apology from the conference for allowing them to join.

I have season tickets, and whenever Michigan is scoring in the north end zone during the 4th quarter, my son and I go to the student section to watch the remainder of the game. Granted, there are a lot of open seats at that time, so it is easier to get there in the 4th, but the ushers don't say anything unless we are acting like a dufus.

My son graduated from M and still looks young enough to be a 2nd year student, so you should not have any problems with you or your daughters getting in at that time. It may be a little more difficult if you go there from quarters 1 - 3 b/c not as many seats will be open but there will be enough open to get in. (Ushers may be asking for tickets at that time of the game.)

Buy the tickets, and go to the student section, but don't sit with your daughter(s) b/c they may feel embarrassed that they are geeks sitting with their parents in the student section.

Make sure you get to the stadium in time to see the band enter the field (20 - 30 minutes before kickoff). It's a nice thrill when the stadium is into the music and fanfare.

BTW, enter the student section from the top concourse, that way you can see where the open seats are available. If the daughters look like they know what they are doing, it shouldn't be a problem for them; parents may have a little more difficulty.

Not sure sitting in the student section with your parents gives the true experience...I sat in 34 last weekend and didn't notice any parents down with the students.  I would try to sit next to the student section.

I am still currently milking student season tickets (8th season). To get in the section gate you have to show the ushers your ticket with the section number. If you don't have that section number you wont be allowed to enter. Either try and get tickets to section 24 or section 35 and you should be able to sneak across into the student section with little to no issue. Other option would be to get a student ticket and have it validated, or if you can get a hold of student ID's they normally don't check them all that close (I had one guy grill me about my own ID, I had to show a second form of ID but he had some sort of napoleon complex going)

Hopefully your daughters are old enough that you aren't worried about profanity, drugs, etc... it can get pretty raunchy up there at times.

Good luck

I assume you've never been to the student section in Madison. I think our student section is relatively tame compared to theirs. At Wisconsin, it's a party and a football game breaks out.

Thanks for the suggestions. We will probably buy tickets in 34 and let the girls go to the student section. They'll be able to handle it now, as they're less than a year away from being there on their own.

As a former usher in the student section, all you need once in the stadium is a ticket to the correct student section. Show your ticket to the usher and go to your seat. Easy

If you manage to get ahold of student section tickets, all you have to do is go to the ticket office and pay a $40 (IIRC on the price) activation fee. Wife and I did it a few years ago for the Hawaii game.

I think that being in the student section of the girl who in the future will become students will receive real emotions and delight. They should also be prepared for the difficulties that they will face in college. One of them is essay writing, you can find wonderfully writing essay services on reddit and amazing reviews on them on this site papersbattle, I think it will be quite for you useful.
