SIAP - Zion's agent says he took payoffs from Nike to go to Duke

under the category of 'shocking news', Zion reportedly took thousands of dollars from Nike to attend Duke.  The real shocking part is who is claiming this.  It's his former agent.  There's the caveat that the agent is suing Zion for 100 million for breach of exclusive contract for his actions after declaring for the draft.  This could be sour grapes, or be real.  I'm sure the NCAA will punish Adrian College for this heinous problem.

It's true that coaching up a bunch of one-and-dones into a cohesive whole is hard. But it still falls on Coach K for squandering just an incredible amount of talent. And it's not just ego-management; player development, player utilization, and the development of complementary pieces have all been awful recently under Coach K, and that's ultimately a coaching failure that led to a historic under-performance with an all-time dominant player surrounded by blue-chips. (broken down nicely here

Frankly, I would imagine Nike has been annoyed with Michigan for a while that we wouldn't accept any money for recruits. I am certain none of that was happening under Beilein. Juwan is TBD.

Nike would love to have some future NBA players selling Nike Michigan gear to one of the largest fanbases in the country

I mean, none of this is surprising.  And I get why a former agent would say this because of course you're the middle man and the assumption was you'd reap the rewards afterwards.  I have no doubt that this happens a ton but most agents don't get screwed over (they assume) once the guy goes pro.

Coach K and Dabo are similar folks from different sports in my mind. Both like to play up this "I'm a great guy" schtick, but I think they're both skeezes playing up good will to cover up all the rule breaking going on behind the scenes.

Zion could walk right up to Mark Emmert's house, ring the bell, tell him he took cash, give him two middle fingers, laugh in his face, and walk away. And there would be absolutely nothing Emmert could do about it.

The NCAA has no jurisdiction over Zion anymore, and they sure aren't going to punish their money-making golden goose down in Durham.

I'm reading a book titled, "In the Name of Editorial Freedom: 125 Years at The Michigan Daily." One of the chapters is titled, "The Game that Never Occurred." It's about the basketball program and the Ed Martin thing. In it, the author quotes Don Canham,

"Anyone who looks at the violations probably understands that this is the worst violation in the history of college basketball. What Fisher has done to the basketball program and the University because he's incompetent is beyond belief. I don't think he cheated, but he's incompetent. It's a shame to see such a great basketball program ruined by incompetence."

Replace "Fisher" with "Krzyzewski" and that sums up my feelings about the issue. Odds that a Duke AD or anyone in the NCAA says the same: about zero. I guess I would replace incompetence with "intentionally ignorant." Coach K is looking the other way so hard his neck is probably sore. Maybe that explains his constant rat-face expression.

The most "Uhhhhhhh...... ya think?" news in sports history.

Time for Coach K to take a page out of the Urban Meyer playbook and fake a heart attack. Is he still teaching those integrity courses down in Columbus?

Serious question tho: Why can't this happen in football?
