SIAP: Urban Meyer Having “Health Issues“
No, I don’t wish health issues on anyone. This is not gloating or joy. But if the timing of this isn’t suspicious, I don’t know what is. Exit plan here???
October 8th, 2018 at 5:41 PM ^
Spending a little too much time with the cheerleading squad again? Genuinely, Urban Meyer is a shitty human being. Take out Ohio State of the equation, and I think just as lowly of him. It was no secret what he let take place at Florida, and how talent beats character any day of the week. As lame as it sounds, at least Jim Tressel was a quality, likable human that just happened to kick Lloyd Carr's ass on the last saturday of november. Urban meyer is scum of the fucking earth.
October 8th, 2018 at 5:45 PM ^
Also crazy to me that a guy that employed Zach Smith, Greg Schiano, and Kevin Wilson at the same time is a giant douchebag.
October 8th, 2018 at 7:15 PM ^
K-A-R-M-A!!!
October 9th, 2018 at 12:18 AM ^
Could you explain how it's karma? I mean, really, lay out the case.
October 8th, 2018 at 7:40 PM ^
He is that, but I actually think there may be more at play here. He didn’t seem “right” to me during any of the Zach Smith way. He seemed aloof, not in the “ha ha look at me I’m awesome way” that most people attach to him, but in the “what exactly is going on and who are you” type way. His sideline interview after the game on Saturday was really weird, he seems vacant, like his head is not dotting the i and crossing the ts for him as quickly as they should have been. His numerous twitter statements during the Zach Smith ordeal came across as duplicative and rambling, and often followed by “make up” speeches where it looked like somebody else was sorting the incoherent mess from actual words. His statements last year after the Michigan game about wanting a “full investigation” of the events leading to the JT Smith “injury” came across less as gamesmanship and douchbaggery and took on a more oddly paranoid vibe. I said at the time of the Smith stuff, I think it is possible that he is a super big douche AND has something legit wrong with him that may be deteriorating.
October 8th, 2018 at 7:49 PM ^
Not dotting the i's, you say...
October 8th, 2018 at 8:59 PM ^
They pretty clearly said basically the same thing in the Smith investigation report. There is definitely something wrong with him.
October 8th, 2018 at 5:47 PM ^
You are giving a pass to Tressel, a "quality human being" for lying? Remember the billboard that said "Liar, Liar, Vest on Fire." It wasn't inaccurate.
October 8th, 2018 at 5:49 PM ^
Yea I genuinely don't give a shit if he broke NCAA Rules and tried to cover it up. Like literally could not care less.
October 8th, 2018 at 5:56 PM ^
Ahh yes, integrity is indeed a useless thing.
October 8th, 2018 at 6:18 PM ^
Tressel has done a ton for inner city Youngstown and Youngstown State. But we really gonna get up in arms about cheating in college athletics?
October 8th, 2018 at 8:35 PM ^
One right does not erase a wrong. You can appreciate when people do good things while still holding them accountable for mistakes/being assholes.
October 9th, 2018 at 4:44 AM ^
Agreed, but let’s also have a bit of nuance in this polarized social justice warrior culture. Nobody is perfect, and Tressel May have indeed broken NCAA rules and played a bit loose with unqualified guys out of Youngstown, but let’s not put him on par with sleazy Urban Meyer - (Aaron Hernandez, pouncey bros, culture at UF, Zach Smith, coed cheer leaders, convenient “health problems”, etc, etc.)
OSU always manages to up their game when it comes to enabling scumbag leaders- woody, tressel, and now Meyer all managed to shame their university, but it’s fair to say Meyer is by far the scummiest of the bunch.
They continue to upgrade in coaching acumen and performance, and downgrade in ethics and academic focus.
Tressel’s clean cut image may have been a fraud, but he can’t hold a candle to the scum and sanctimony (bible study anyone?) that is Urban Meyer.
When it comes to being a disengenuous, lying, sanctimonious, entitled, amoral, win at all cost human being... Meyer says, “hold my beer”
October 8th, 2018 at 11:37 PM ^
If they cheat there just imagine what they do with something important.
October 8th, 2018 at 6:00 PM ^
Also the incident harassing our team with the bomb sniffing dogs was the action of a high quality human being.
Tressel is a polite, but relentless cheater and hypocrite.
October 8th, 2018 at 6:15 PM ^
That's just quality gamesmanship man. Let he who has never tried to dick move a rival throw the first stone.
October 8th, 2018 at 6:53 PM ^
I don't think we've ever done that to OSU. So, stone away?
October 8th, 2018 at 6:56 PM ^
Maybe we should try it.
October 8th, 2018 at 7:50 PM ^
You’ve picked an odd hill to die on FatGuy Touchdown.
October 9th, 2018 at 2:42 PM ^
No doubt. And I was being a bit sarcastic with a lot of my responses last night, and I don't necessarily condone cheating and being an asshole, but I also don't equate that with being a genuinely bad human being. Urban Meyer has condoned domestic violence in so many cases, allowed dangerous people to remain eligible in order to win, and looked the other way in a serious amount of criminal activity. He's also cheated on his wife numerous times, lied about leaving a job high and dry, and is the biggest hypocrite out there.
I got carried away with my insinuations that Tressel is a good human being that did nothing wrong, but I don't equate cheating in College Football with being a terrible human being. Is it unethical and against the rules? Yea. Was he a dick? Absolutely. But I also think that the competitiveness and big money nature of college athletics allows it to happen. Personally, I think Baylor/Penn State/Michigan State/Ohio State/Maryland/Colorado/Vanderbilt/Tennessee/Oregon Basketball/Louisville/UNC have all skewed my perspective of what a scandal actually is and what is ultimately, at the end of the day, harmless. Do I think Hugh Freeze is a hypocritical blowhard who cheated his ass off? Absolutely. But I also wouldn't characterize him as a bad human being for what he did, as much as I would call him a sanctimonious douche.
I guess at the end, my point shouldn't so much be trying to defend Jim Tressel as much as pointing out the differences in paying players and looking the other way in violence against women and children.
October 8th, 2018 at 6:16 PM ^
Tressel's performance in The Shawshank Redemption as Warden Norton was one for the ages.
October 9th, 2018 at 5:32 AM ^
He wasn’t acting so it came naturally.
October 8th, 2018 at 6:18 PM ^
Out of curiosity would your opinion of John Beilein change if he committed the same actions as Tressel?
My point is, Beilein is an example of a man with real integrity. Tressel, like his protige Mark Dantonio, is a man who knows how to pretend to be a man of integrity.
October 8th, 2018 at 6:27 PM ^
My reaction would be: Cool, John Beilein is still a quality human that tried to cheat in a highly competitive field that enables and encourages cheating as long as it's not blatantly obvious. I'm not going to get up in arms about college players getting free tattoos and selling their memorabilia. I mean hell, the NCAA has proved it doesn't really care, so I don't really care.
And Dantonio is a scumbag through and through who will ignore violence and DUI's in order to win.
October 8th, 2018 at 6:42 PM ^
Your first indicator that you're fighting a losing battle should have been using the word cheat repeatedly.
No, I'd prefer my coach not cheat. Full stop.
October 8th, 2018 at 6:49 PM ^
I don't really give a shit if my head coach pays players or looks the other way as they get impermissible benefits. I'll get downvoted a ton, but I really don't care. Everyone is cheating in some way shape or form.
I actually hope Jim Harbaugh is cheating his ass off by paying players as long as he doesn't get caught.
October 9th, 2018 at 12:34 AM ^
"Everyone is cheating" is a cop out and quite simply not true. It definitely doesn't make it ok.
October 9th, 2018 at 1:19 AM ^
You can pretty much tell which commenters on this thread have personal integrity. When Michigan starts acting like the Bucknuts, I will look for another team to root for.
October 9th, 2018 at 2:48 PM ^
The irony of listening to someone with a profile picture of Taylor Lewan lecturing me about not having personal integrity. Why don't you go fuck yourself with that sanctimonious bullshit.
October 8th, 2018 at 9:04 PM ^
Your argument is “if the NCAA doesn’t care then I don’t care” is antithetical to everything Michigan stands for. Go root for the Buckeyes - you won’t be missed.
October 8th, 2018 at 7:57 PM ^
Beyond ironic that somebody who went to the trouble of creating an avatar of Teddy Roosevelt would state he doesn't give a shit about cheating and breaking athletic rules.
October 9th, 2018 at 12:31 AM ^
So Meyer's lack of integrity is bad, but Tressel's lack of integrity is ok?
October 9th, 2018 at 2:51 PM ^
I think it's important to understand the distinction between cheating and trying to cover it up, and condoning violence against women/bystanders and the other things Meyer has allowed to happen. I probably went a tad over the line defending Tressel, but my point is I don't necessarily think that cheating in college athletics makes someone a bad person. I think the things Urban Meyer has allowed to happen under his watch does make him a bad person.
October 8th, 2018 at 6:31 PM ^
Tressel used the Mr. Rogers thing to get aways with shit he was doing behind the scenes look into his time at Youngstown State. Just as Bobby Bowden was using the everybodys grandpa dagnabbit routine to get away with some pretty shady stuff much like televangelist do and then you find them picking up hookers
October 8th, 2018 at 6:44 PM ^
Never thought I'd see upvotes on this board for "saint" Tressel. Likeable human? Did you mean immense scumbag win-at-all-costs hypocrite douchebag? At best, he overlooked impermissible benefits and arrests if not enabling benefits. Then he cultivated an image of a moral man in the press, right before lying to the NCAA multiple times and getting fired and banned from football.
Apologies if I missed a massive /s somewhere..
October 8th, 2018 at 6:54 PM ^
There's literally no sarcasm. I don't equate cheating in college football to being a shitty human being. He definitely wasn't a saint, but I never said he was. I just said I don't give a fuck if he paid players, and it doesn't matter to me.
October 8th, 2018 at 8:14 PM ^
How about being a massive hypocrite and liar then? He has next to zero integrity but I guess that's ok because the NCAA system is flawed. Or something.
October 8th, 2018 at 10:28 PM ^
You don't, eh?
I don't think you mean that. I think you mean that if everyone is doing it, why doesn't Michigan pay players too.
Everyone is not doing it. And Tressel is a sleazy SOB who presents like a preacher.
If cheating doesn't matter to you then what does?
October 8th, 2018 at 10:15 PM ^
Jim Tressel is not a saint, he's just better at being a crime boss than Meyer.
October 8th, 2018 at 11:04 PM ^
Jim Tressel was likeable?, jesus there was no more fake facade of a head coach than Tressel. Even Urban can't reach Tressel's level of fake bullshit'ness.
October 8th, 2018 at 11:32 PM ^
Quality, likable cheater and liar?
October 8th, 2018 at 11:54 PM ^
What the hell was likable about Tressel? He had the personality of a houseplant , puffed himself up as a moral example, but was at LEAST just as big of a cheat as an SEC coach
October 9th, 2018 at 12:24 AM ^
Tressel got fired for not being a quality human.
October 9th, 2018 at 6:20 AM ^
well, yeah, a “quality, likable human being,” if you don’t care about lying, hypocrisy and sanctimony. dantonio without the relentless whining.
October 9th, 2018 at 9:38 AM ^
Tressel cheated his ass off too.
October 9th, 2018 at 9:43 AM ^
Tressel was a likeable, quality person? Seriously? A tragic hero I guess, huh? No reason for his firing from OSU, another victim.
October 8th, 2018 at 5:42 PM ^
I don’t get your reference to the timing being suspicious... what am I missing?
October 8th, 2018 at 5:44 PM ^
Scandal ... health issues ... “retirement” due to health issues ... new job
