SIAP: The Freep Predicts MSU's FB Season

Submitted by FauxMo on

Solari has them going 7-5, which is plausible. However, he has MSU beating UM 17-13 in Ann Arbor. So you don't need to click the link (I won't even provide it), here is his reasoning:

"Oct. 7: MSU 17, Michigan 14

A stunner, you say? Perhaps. However, the Wolverines are in the same position the Spartans were a year ago with a number of new faces who have not experienced this rivalry. That growth – and last year’s loss – fires up MSU defensive tackles Mike Panasiuk and Raequan Williams to set the tone in the trenches."

If I understand this correctly, MSU will beat us because the few remaining players who didn't get kicked off the team in the off-season have "experienced the game already," and their DL will be "fired up." So, there it is...

Speaking of Detroit newspapers and "what the fuck" - has anyone been able to hold onto their lunch while trying to make it through Mitch Albom's newest piece? It's probably the worst thing ever printed. It is so bad, I don't know whether to laugh, flip the table, or feel really bad for that limp human interest piece writing poser.

This reeks of MSU optimism. For years, my best friend would explain to me, in great detail, exactly why MSU would win every game. Which Spartan players would improve during the season, which opponent players would be injured when they played MSU. Every game, every year. And when MSU lost, it didn't dull his outlook any. Sounds like my buddy got a job at the Freep doing some ghost writing. I'll have to send him my congrats

Growing up in Flint, I had one friend who was a die hard Sparty fan. On the rare years they won, he would gloat. Forgetting what the norm was.

The last decade was rough though. Both my Regular Dr and Pharmacist are Sparty fans. Unlike most, they didnt gloat too much during the run. I guess they remember the down times. Thankfully my Gastro is a UM alum and season ticket holder.

What a plot twist that is!  And here I thought that Michigan was going to drive MSU into the ground like a tent stake.

You know why MSU wins it?  Moxie.  They've got moxie and grit.  They're the moxiest and grittiest team out there.

but they have so much VIM.  mean, they're just absolutely full of it. They're totally vimmy. The vimmiest bunch I ever did see. Their vimiosity is off the charts. The verisimilitude of their viminess is a sight to behold. Any other team is just a cheap imitation of their vimitation.

is last year was the year state played the most freshman ever under dantonio; and this year they project to play even more.

his winning formula was senior leadership, depth, years of development (or roids).  not playing young freshman.

And they say newspapers are dying because of the internet and people not wanting to read good journalism.  What they tend to ignore is that there is a LOT of shitty journalism out there, and this is yet one more exhibit of it.

EDIT:  Also, this doozy

Nov. 18: MSU 28, Maryland 13 In perhaps the Spartans’ most important game since the loss to Alabama in the College Football Playoff, Lewerke shines in a repeat start against the Terps. He and Felton Davis show off their developing rapport, while Joe Bachie directs a defensive effort to give Dantonio his 10th bowl game in 11 seasons. ./blockquote>

What are you even talking about? Beating Maryland at home is regarded as the most important game of the year? I know the Free Press is trolling for clicks to prop up their piss-poor sports writing, but good lord, try to at least put some thought into it.

- And the fact that it's in AA - And that Sparty's relative offensive strength (strong emphasis on relative, meaning vs other aspect of their team) in the run game is offset by a monster front 7 for Michigan - And Sparty's relative defensive weakness against the pass game sets up nicely for a returning QB. - And that Sparty probably has more new faces that haven't experienced the rivalry

While Solari's is pretty funny. Graham Couch's takes the cake.

Michigan 34, MSU 24

The Wolverines, after a stunning loss at Purdue, find their mojo at home. Brian Lewerke is sacked five times but leaves Ann Arbor with his leg intact."

to understand how state fans, even with their thickest green and white glasses, can actually believe michigan is in the same position they were in a year ago. Their argument is the same we have been hearing all off season: they lost all those starters yada yada and recruiting stars dont actually mean anything because, well, crootin'.

Ok.

Solari must really be a Sparty Slappy, his line of "reasoning" is so far off the logic scale.

Good, there is still a section of Sparty fanbase that is delusional about D"antony.  They will hang on to him as his tire fire rages to epic porpotions........
