Sherrone Moore & Mike Elston Appreciation Thread

It has been many years since I have seen such a dominant performance on both sides of the trenches against a top 10-rated team.  Full credit to Coach Moore, Coach Elston, and everyone involved recruiting the big guys up front.

We had great, some might argue exceptional O and D lines last year.  And when units excel that much in college it is usually because they're stocked with seniors.  It's truly amazing how we have been able to reload.  This is how Michigan football used to be...dominant.

If I was an OL or DL high school recruit looking for a program that could help me get to the next level, Michigan would be at the top of my list.

Definitely disappointing recruiting didn't get more of a bump after last years season, but Michigan will likely flip a few 4 stars come signing day. Definitely nowhere near OSU good, but the class will finish much better than it is now.

I think having coordinators turn over so frequently isn't helping recruiting + new, unproven recruiting momentum at rival regional schools (ND, MSU, etc). Sometimes having new, unproven staff helps in recruiting because it's easy to sell hope.

I'm also curious how much Michigan continues to tap the transfer portal. UM got two difference makers this year in Olu and Eyabi who are both arguably 5 stars if graded today. That might be part of the recipe moving forward, especially if Olu and Eyabi improve their draft stock with the move.

Regardless, current player development is better than it has been since the Lloyd Carr days IMO

As recently as seemingly a few years ago, the running joke for every recruit in every sport was “does he play DT”? Amazing how far we’ve come in such a short time.

Newsome has tight ends now, I believe, but I look forward to him taking on bigger roles in the years to come. I hope he doesn't have to leave to grow his career.

Michigan has been, a bit surprisingly, dominant in the trenches this year.

When the season started, the OL looked like what we expected: a bunch of new pieces that needed to find some chemistry. Same with the DLine replacing two first round talents (Ojabo was a lock for that until his injury).

Instead, the OLine now looks like 5th year Stanford (or last year Michigan) and the DL is fully weaponized with a number of guys who can wreck games (Morris in particular has been a standout every game).

Moore and Elston have worked wonders with both these units.
