Semi OT: Harrison Twins Turning Pro
http://www.si.com/college-basketball/2015/04/08/kentucky-aaron-andrew-h…
Got to think this will hurt us with Jaylen Brown. Playing time will be available for him at UK now.
Didn't Brown say he would commit to an Adidas school? Or was that B.S.?
Also I am really surprised Andrew would leave, he's not even projected to be drafted on some boards.
Calipari'd.

They may not be consistent, but one of them (Aaron?) is clutch as hell under 2 minutes.
Ugh...
Kansas's was so, so much worse. They had us on the ropes for the entire game, had a free throw to seal the deal that they missed, and Trey's shot came from the next county, while Harrison's was just a moderately deep (but still very tough) three.
Not when you are a Michigan fan my friend.
I agree with you. They have NBA body types but I wasn't all that impressed by either's skill set.
As to the point in the OP, I thought it was assumed that they were both going pro, so I don't know if this changes anything for Brown. If Booker goes pro, that may change the equation.
From top 5-10 in the country out of high school to kids that probably won't get picked in the first round.
No probably about it. Aaron will be very lucky to get drafted at all and Andrew is looking at late 2nd round. Shooting and efficiency are important in today's NBA. Not a strong suit for either player, considering neither shot above 40% from the field this year.
I know he probably only has a year or two to work with them but I just don't see that much "player development" from Calipari. Yes, he gets guys to the NBA but most of the guys were NBA locks to begin and often they seem to drop spots (maybe because of all the competition). Plus he never really seems like a good X and O guy to me. It seems like he can motivate guys to play defense and play hard but that's really about it.
Agree. Look how much better Kyle Wiltjer got at Gonzaga. His game is so much better, and he has a much better body too. UK doesn't really develop guys, but most of them are so good coming in they don't really need to be.
I'd be interested to see an analysis of where his guys get drafted (or not) relative to expectations based on incoming ranks. There seems to be no development whatsoever. I guess when the expectations are that high, disappointment is the only alternative to "meets expectations", which is why the analysis would be interesting. I just don't see how going there is a good idea for half the guys that do (and yes, it's probably because they're getting benefits).
Good.
The Harrisons are guards. JB is a wing forward. Plus the whole Adidas thing.

Good
I don't like either one
There is my very insightful insight
if Aaron goes in the late 1st and Andrew (after that dumb comment) goes in the second.
does not work out for these two, they can be cast as the Arnold Jackson character if there is ever a New "Different Strokes" sitcom.
I'm curious. Considering Calipari has another gaggle of touted recruits coming in, would he "encourage" his guys to go pro? Two Harrison's on the roster as Juniors would be nice. Anyone have any intel?
I think they had one open scholarship this season (assuming you can take one back from a walk-on). Kentucky currently has three players signed with a potential fourth that could reclassify. So they are only two over before defections. I think they were pretty safe to assume that Cauley-Stein and Towns would be gone. So they're set right now even ignoring the Harrison twins and likely departure of Lyles. If you told Calipari he could keep those three and not add anyone else, I think he'd gladly accept. So, no, I don't think he's encouraged anyone to go for his own benefit.
he has 3 commits already. my guess is that he has 2 more top 10 guys waiting in the wings. so assuming his 2 big guys commit, he needs to have 2-3 others go, and the harrisons could easily be upgraded.
I don't think that's necesserily fair to the Harrisons. While I doubt their pro potential, they are still very good college basketball players who would be epxerienced juniors. I don't think Calipari would force them out over what could possibly be an upgrade. Besides, I think he knew they were going pro.
I'm not sold on either's pro potential - at least in terms of becoming a star. In college, they were playing with a loaded team. There were a number of guys who could score 20+ points on a given night. No one player was the focal point of the offense. If some of these Kentucky players were on a different team they might average 17-19 pts/game.
i never said the harrisons were not good basketball players. they obviously are. that said, i would take a ulis/booker back court over those two any day. also, i bet he has top 10 guys coming in or waiting to commit. so i don't think calipari is sheading a tear over those two turning pro.
I think they are good college players who probably don't translate well to the next level. But we'll see - they said that about THJ. If they go to the right team they can make a good living - if not, they could be out of the league in 2 years. A lot of life is about circumstances - everyone was way more "NBA type player" on GR3 than THJ and look at how their fates diverged. Hell THJ is doing better than Nik.
I don't see them improving their stock by staying - I didnt see any Beilein type bumps in their game so makes sense to leave and begin pro career- whether here or eventually Europe.
They could really stand one more year at college level. I find it strange they want to bolt so badly given their current stock in the NBA but I think after two years of not being able to get a championship, they're flat out done. I think when one twin makes a choice, the other one ends up following suit, ready or not. I think they need some serious D Leauge if they do get picked up
Just 2 years too late.
fuck those crackas! too soon?

stop going to classes?
if I'm them I'm not going to another day of class. Why bother? I doubt they ever plan to finish whatever degree they're working on
Given that (per the NBPA) the average NBA player is broke five years after retiring, that might not be the best idea.
How many college players that go pro without finishing their degree actually come back and finish it? I'd venture to guess it's probably less than 10%
If I was Nik or GRIII, I'm not sure if I would've gone to classes anymore after I decided to go pro. It just sort of makes sense. College is tough, why keep going to class if you're half way out the door?
Do you honestly think that these "1 and dones" or 2's and lose" actually play school? Wonder what classes Cardale Jones has been taking?
...Kentucky's MBB team recently had a GPA of roughly 3.1.
Agreed. They have some top programs. Some people need to get their noses out of the air around here because their shit stinks just like the other guy.
He gets credit for football and has a bowling class.
I don't understand why these two started. They weren't the best guards on their own team.
But they already have Briscoe, Matthews and Labisserie in the fold and will certainly add at least 2 more studs, most likely Zimnerman and Ingram. UK will have the #1 class and be in Top 5 of every preseason poll.
Say whatever you want but Calipari's methods are now being copied by Coach K. There are only a scant few cbb programs that could pull this off (UNC and maybe UCLA if they ever got a real coach)
