I’ll throw this in here:
I went to Grosse Pointe South to scout their scrimmage today as they are a future opponent. Will Johnson took the first punt 88 yards for a TD. Also, he’s every bit of 6’2.
August 19th, 2021 at 10:41 PM ^
That’s awesome, but why is he returning punts in a scrimmage? It seems like an unnecessary risk, but maybe that’s common and I’m just paranoid.
August 19th, 2021 at 11:16 PM ^
It was a simulated half the first main portion of the scrimmage and both South and Bloomfield Hills kept starters in the whole half. After that he was done for the day. He played safety exclusively on D and slot (no wildcat which he played a lot last year) on O.

Because he is a high school kid having fun playing football and enjoying being a superior athlete to everyone else on the field. I could only dream of being in his position as a 5' 9" average HS athlete when I was his age. I wouldn't have left the field if I had his talent. I hope he makes the most of it and has a blast his senior year.

This speaks to me from a classroom standpoint in high school and college. I went from finding things very easy and applying minimal effort in high school, then was surrounded by people at my level and greater in college and had a wake up call.
Enjoy being the big fish in the small pond while you can, young man.

It’s not often I wish I still lived in my childhood town of Grosse Pointe, but in this case I’d enjoy going to my alma mater to watch Johnson play.
August 20th, 2021 at 4:45 PM ^
I graduated from Grosse Pointe North HS in 1973. What year did you graduate from South?
August 19th, 2021 at 8:15 PM ^
God damnit i love the sound of catching a football.
August 19th, 2021 at 8:20 PM ^
God damn. I’m ready
love seeing Cade in the opening clip
August 19th, 2021 at 9:54 PM ^
Loved seeing him give the team a speech. Hope he can perform and hold onto the job for an entire season while staying healthy!

I wouldn't hold my breath on this. McCarthy needs to be ready at a moment's notice. Since 2011, we've only had 1 QB make it through an entire season without missing a few quarters of action, let alone a game or two (Shea in 2018, though Rudddock was close in 2015 minus like half of the Minnesota and Ohio State games).

The more I see and hear, it seems like Vastardis is going to be the starting center, which feels very meh, because he’s limited athletically.
August 19th, 2021 at 8:35 PM ^
Lorenz said he was pretty injured last year and tried to play through it.
August 19th, 2021 at 8:36 PM ^
Truly not trying to be snarky but what are you seeing outside of these very limited and without context clips? All of the insider chatter I've read/heard seems to indicate otherwise and most expect Zinter to be the starter there.
August 19th, 2021 at 8:37 PM ^
No. Vastardis has been with the ones based on recent chatter. Zinter at RG.
August 19th, 2021 at 8:36 PM ^
They could be in a bad spot and are going with the guy who is limited athletically but can make all the calls and knows the playbook as opposed to a more athletic guy who isn’t quite there yet. Those qualities don’t have to be mutually exclusive (Cesar Ruiz), but this could be their reality.

You can say that again
August 20th, 2021 at 8:23 AM ^
Vastardis appears to maximize the OL right now.
He looked really good against Minnesota and then struggled with MSU and WI. He didn't start after WI due to injury, and Carpenter wasn't any better. Of course, he's gone. They've got 2 very good potential centers as true freshman (Crippen and Anderson) that probably won't see the field much this year.
Seems he's got the skills but has lacked the strength. They say he bulked up a bunch since last year. I think he's going to be one of the most important pieces to any success we might have this year.
If he can do more of this, then I'm looking forward to him:
August 19th, 2021 at 8:36 PM ^
If Cade is voted captain that would give me optimism that he could be pretty good.
August 19th, 2021 at 8:57 PM ^
I think he may actually be, that dude.
August 20th, 2021 at 8:15 AM ^
Agreed - he has the swag. Lets see if he makes the people around him better.
August 19th, 2021 at 8:40 PM ^
Looks like another INT by freshman Moore. Probably doesn’t mean much for this year, but nice to see a young player with a nose for the ball.
August 19th, 2021 at 8:43 PM ^
Holy shit Erick All caught a pass!!!!!
Even though it's a hype video it's, sadly, still noteworthy. Let's hope this keeps going all year long!!
August 19th, 2021 at 8:49 PM ^
Erick All was a perfect microcosm of last year. Enough talent just failed miserably when called upon. Hopefully he bounces back. Looks huge.
August 19th, 2021 at 10:18 PM ^
Erick All catches a ton of hype video passes. He's an AA hype video TE.
August 19th, 2021 at 10:42 PM ^
All your Erick are belong to us.
August 20th, 2021 at 8:19 AM ^
In All's defense, Milton did not throw a nice catchable ball last year.
August 19th, 2021 at 9:16 PM ^
Looks like some of those guys are Heisman hopefuls

I'm ready
August 19th, 2021 at 10:21 PM ^
If we beat Washington, which I think and would (will) put money on, and then Jim wins that first big road game in Madison, the hype train will be back on full speed.
We should beat Washington, and we can beat Wisconsin.
The future of this program will be known by October 2nd.
August 19th, 2021 at 10:44 PM ^
Sadly, Washington is a terrible match up for us…particularly defensively and so early on in the year. Odds of winning < 25% at that junction in the year but would be higher if at the end of the season.
August 19th, 2021 at 11:19 PM ^
If you take last year out of the equation (empty big house) Jim has lost 5 games at home: the trouble with the snap, 3 OSU games, and the JOK monsoon game. We play well vs good opponents not names OSU at home. I think we win by 7-10 pts.
August 19th, 2021 at 11:19 PM ^
Right now Vegas has Michigan -109 on ML. Tossup. I’ve already bet Michigan heavy for this game.
August 19th, 2021 at 11:23 PM ^
I was going to tell you not to look past Rutgers, but if Cade keeps his pace from last year and gets to play both halves he will put up 1000 yards and pass for 8 touchdowns.
August 20th, 2021 at 8:35 AM ^
Umm, is that for the year or just for the Rutger game? Because I could see both, considering the state of Harbaugh's offense the last couple of years...
August 19th, 2021 at 11:52 PM ^
Washington is a prime time night game at home. The fans are going to be loud and hungry for a big Michigan win. I think Michigan wins this one easily.
August 20th, 2021 at 12:47 AM ^
If we beat Washington, which I think and would (will)
People don't realize, Washington's two best coaches are gone from the team, Chris Peterson and Pete Kwiatkowski.
August 20th, 2021 at 9:04 AM ^
Depends on how Michigan looks in the trenches. If the front 7 looks really strong against Washington then maybe they can hold up against Wisconsin. If Washington is able to run the ball then I don't like what that would mean for what Wisconsin will be able to do.
August 20th, 2021 at 12:35 AM ^
Cade’s release point is super low or is it just me seeing that?
August 20th, 2021 at 6:27 AM ^
Yes and yes. He has somewhat of a wonky throwing motion and can go three-quarters or sidearm.
August 20th, 2021 at 8:50 AM ^
Definitely not a prototype throwing motion.
He reminds me of Bernie Kosar's throwing style which worked pretty well for him and his roughly ten years in the league.
