I’ll throw this in here:

I went to Grosse Pointe South to scout their scrimmage today as they are a future opponent. Will Johnson took the first punt 88 yards for a TD. Also, he’s every bit of 6’2.

Because he is a high school kid having fun playing football and enjoying being a superior athlete to everyone else on the field. I could only dream of being in his position as a 5' 9" average HS athlete when I was his age. I wouldn't have left the field if I had his talent. I hope he makes the most of it and has a blast his senior year.

This speaks to me from a classroom standpoint in high school and college.  I went from finding things very easy and applying minimal effort in high school, then was surrounded by people at my level and greater in college and had a wake up call.

Enjoy being the big fish in the small pond while you can, young man.

Hope he can perform and hold onto the job for an entire season while staying healthy!

I wouldn't hold my breath on this.  McCarthy needs to be ready at a moment's notice.  Since 2011, we've only had 1 QB make it through an entire season without missing a few quarters of action, let alone a game or two (Shea in 2018, though Rudddock was close in 2015 minus like half of the Minnesota and Ohio State games).

The more I see and hear, it seems like Vastardis is going to be the starting center, which feels very meh, because he’s limited athletically.

They could be in a bad spot and are going with the guy who is limited athletically but can make all the calls and knows the playbook as opposed to a more athletic guy who isn’t quite there yet. Those qualities don’t have to be mutually exclusive (Cesar Ruiz), but this could be their reality.

Vastardis appears to maximize the OL right now.

He looked really good against Minnesota and then struggled with MSU and WI.  He didn't start after WI due to injury, and Carpenter wasn't any better.  Of course, he's gone.  They've got 2 very good potential centers as true freshman (Crippen and Anderson) that probably won't see the field much this year.

Seems he's got the skills but has lacked the strength.  They say he bulked up a bunch since last year.  I think he's going to be one of the most important pieces to any success we might have this year.

If he can do more of this, then I'm looking forward to him:

Looks like another INT by freshman Moore.  Probably doesn’t mean much for this year, but nice to see a young player with a nose for the ball.

Holy shit Erick All caught a pass!!!!!

Even though it's a hype video it's, sadly, still noteworthy.  Let's hope this keeps going all year long!!

If we beat Washington, which I think and would (will) put money on, and then Jim wins that first big road game in Madison, the hype train will be back on full speed.

We should beat Washington, and we can beat Wisconsin.

The future of this program will be known by October 2nd.
