Saturday Noon Game Thread
Not much out there on the slate that pops out - probably the most interesting game is Maryland at Indiana but it has a weird time slot at 1:30 PM. If Tenn is improved their game vs Georgia might be worth a whirl
Wyoming visits Spartans
South Florida vs Wiscy
Tulane v Rutgers
Tennessee v Georgia
Northwestern v PSU
Iowa v Purdue
Vandy v Kentucky

And I agree...a home game versus Minnesota would be perfect to get some kind of confidence.
Whoever it is, I just hope he's on a short leash. Treat it like the RB position until someone proves he deserves more PT.

I feel really excited for Shane, a bit disappointed for DG, and overall positive about the effect that will have on the team. I know the players love/respect DG, but they also know he's been struggling and might have been hoping for the coaching staff to give Shane a chance -- by all accounts Shane is very popular.
From a schematic stand point, I think Shane arm strength is going to create a positive cycle for Michigan offense -- he's able to stretch the field, which should open the run, and then that will open up the play-action passing off the run. As other have pointed out, DG's struggles have allowed opposiing DC's to all but abandon the back-end defense, which makes his and the RB running that much harder, and the play-action all be ineffective.

Would be best in a spread passing offense. Quick reads, higher tempo, spread the ball around and get it into the hands of your playmakers. Use your legs when you have to.
I don't think he's a dropback passer. I'd much rather see him in the gun spreading it out and playing pitch and catch.

Who had Wisconsin-USF 3-3 late in the 1st half? Wiscy in red zone now.
September 27th, 2014 at 1:28 PM ^
I've been watching that game. S.Florida's D is impressive today.
September 27th, 2014 at 1:29 PM ^
And I'm confused on what they're trying to do with this QB situation. They had an identity, success, everything and they're trying to change it.

Wildcats getting boned on that call
September 27th, 2014 at 1:24 PM ^
The most Big Ten play EVER?
September 27th, 2014 at 1:24 PM ^
Yikes PSU if that is ruled a fumble. No control, but stranger things have happened...
September 27th, 2014 at 1:27 PM ^
But man, PSU looks terrible on offense right now.
September 27th, 2014 at 1:28 PM ^
I don't like that.
If you yank the ball out of the receivers hands before his knees touch the ground and the ball is between his hand and his neck, that doesn't count as having possession, so no fumble?
September 27th, 2014 at 1:30 PM ^
Exactly. You can bet that if he caught it that way as he ran out of bounds it would ahve been a catch.
September 27th, 2014 at 1:33 PM ^
What a load of crap. Northwestern should be up 21-0.
September 27th, 2014 at 1:36 PM ^
At the very least 17-3 if Fitz wasn't such a spazz with that stupid ass fake FG in the 1st Qtr.
September 27th, 2014 at 1:39 PM ^
Maryland and IU just kicked off on BTN.
They don't need no stinkin' defense!
September 27th, 2014 at 1:42 PM ^
Over/Under 84.5 combined points? lol, that's probably too high, but wouldn't shock me one bit if this game is 49-42 or even in the 50s. The more appropriate number would probably be like 70.5
September 27th, 2014 at 2:04 PM ^
This is like an elite high school game more than an the intriguing college matchup I thought it would be.
September 27th, 2014 at 1:43 PM ^
It's too bad Northwestern is bad, because they should be up by four scores.

I honestly don't know if we're going to beat them, but if we don't, I hope our defense at least makes life miserable for Hackenberg all night. Bring the noise, Mattison.

MSU/OSU is the week after Michigan/MSU. It's a night game in East Lansing.
September 27th, 2014 at 1:55 PM ^
Those 2 games are sandwiched by IU and Maryland. Two dangerous teams if you're looking ahead or still riding a high from a big win.

September 27th, 2014 at 2:05 PM ^
They do play Michigan, then OSU...but there's a Bye week between them. Nice catch.

I am glad Dantonio doesnt run up the score or anything, with 1st team offense in up 42-14.
Also Nike is doing a great job off matching the uniform to the helemt, only off by about 4 shades of green.

Golden Boy Hackenburg missing WIDE OPEN WR's and looking very pedestrian.
September 27th, 2014 at 2:13 PM ^
Good.
Of course, he'll channel Matt McGloin for UTL III.

I just turned on the NW-PSU game. People were worried about having to match UM-UM today need to remember it could be WAY worse.
September 27th, 2014 at 2:14 PM ^
PSU's DC seems to be allergic to carrying TEs down the seam.
September 27th, 2014 at 2:16 PM ^
For perspective, this is a better offensive performance by Wyoming than they've had against the likes of Montana and FAU.
September 27th, 2014 at 2:21 PM ^
PSU 4 and 2 down 8 at NW 35. Throws. Rejected.
September 27th, 2014 at 2:22 PM ^
I have not watched 1 play of Purdue Iowa lol
September 27th, 2014 at 2:23 PM ^
Iowa and Purdue tied at 10 with 17:30 to play. Even for the Big Ten this is offensive ineptitude.

If NU loses this game it seems like that fake FG call is going to be up for quite a bit of discussion.

Sent a NW guy to the hospital who was trying for a low tackle. He should be ejected for targeting but he won't be because you know.
Dude is competitive but he's clearly an a-hole
September 27th, 2014 at 2:47 PM ^
Watching these games you see how the Big 10 has "5 of the top 14 defenses in ALL OF FBS!"
so many of these offenses are wretched, as are these MAC teams we play 1-2x per team. Might be 10 of the 14 teams in the top 30 by the end of the year in total defense.
We are to overstated defensive stats as the Pac 12 is to overstated offensive stats.
September 27th, 2014 at 2:48 PM ^
I feel like forcing people to watch Iowa football as punishment instead of prison is a viable solution to prison overcrowding.
3rd and 7 3 yard outs are the most frustrating thing.
September 27th, 2014 at 2:54 PM ^
They should be illegal. Seriously. Five yards and a loss of down for idiocy.

Sparty playing starters like Calhoun and Taiwan Jones up a zillion in the middle of the 4th. "We dont play for the polls".

Int return for TD late against PSU.

NW goes ahead by 2 scores, but misses the XP.
