Saturday Noon Game Thread

Submitted by alum96 on

Not much out there on the slate that pops out - probably the most interesting game is Maryland at Indiana but it has a weird time slot at 1:30 PM.  If Tenn is improved their game vs Georgia might be worth a whirl

Wyoming visits Spartans

South Florida vs Wiscy

Tulane v Rutgers

Tennessee v Georgia

Northwestern v PSU

Iowa v Purdue

Vandy v Kentucky

The new information will have to change your opinion. It may be a curse but my mind has been made up on this staff. I'll be there today and I'm traveling to NJ to watch us lose to Rutgers. But, I'm done with Coach Hoke.

Perhaps you're right.  But you strike me as someone who, even if the information should change your opinion, wouldn't out of stubborness and spite.  Have you never had a strong conviction about something only to have that conviction be swayed over time?  Your attitude befuddles me Bloomington, and it raises a lot of question in my mind about your age and experience level.

Yeah I had a strong conviction about Coach Hoke. I saw a guy who loved Michigan as much as I do and who would do anything to see it be elite again. Then the last 4 years happened, I've assessed the information and have seen all that I need to see to change my original opinion of this staff. Maybe it's you who won't change your opinion out of stubbornness or spite.

Once again, Bloomington, your own words sabbotoge your own argument.  You've seen the last 4 years?  Hoke is 4 games into his 4th year, so you've seen 3 seasons and 4 game, not 4 years.  Nit picky, I know but you've already assumed that data that you're going to see in the rest of this season.

Let's say, for the same of argument, that Michigan goes undefeated in the B10 -- obviously with wins over MSU and OSU on the road -- and makes it to the B10CGame.  Would your opinion change?  If you say, "no, it would not ..." then you're admitting to being dogmatic to a fault.  I know what you're going to say -- "that's not going to happen..." -- so save yourself the key strokes.

Yours is the worst kind of conviction.  You based things upon incomplete data, you make pessimistic assumptions that color your decision --- good lord I hope you don't have anything important to make decisions about in life if this is indicative of your process.

Your best argument is assuming and adding in the biggest "if" of all to try and prove a point. Why would I discuss and worry about something that has no chance of happening? I'm just happy I don't have anyone like you working for me. I like people that see the facts, that see a team getting worse year by year and aren't afraid to admit when they're wrong. Sometimes you have to get off a sinking ship, Sten you'll be floating with the fishes before you decide it's time for a change.

But you said you've seen the "last 4 years" before the 4th year is complete.  My hypothetical was to show you how dogmatic you're being, it wasn't the crux of my argument.

I've admitted that I'm wrong many times, and I am not claiming that I am right.  All I claim is that the data is incomplete and that there are mitigating factors that are at play here that are beyond coaching incompetence.

I too am glad that I don't work for you, and that you don't work for me.  I agree that you have to get off a sinking ship, but you have to 100% sure that the ship is, in fact, sinking before your man the lifeboats.

Part of being a great leader is making tough decisions and seeing things before all the information comes in. Because if you wait till all the information comes in, it'll be too late. The ship is sinking, luckily for all of us. It doesn't affect our livelihoods besides our overall happiness in the fall.

I open Safari, I go to www.mgoblog.com, I open a thread, read a comment that I don't care for, and I touch the red arrow.

I am useful Bloomington.  We live in a relative universe my friend, where all things have their opposite and opposing force.  Without my diligent, unemotional, and flexible understanding of the situation, your rigid dogmatism would cease to exist -- and visa versa.

See you've just shown your age. I use the app because going to safari and the website is the most inefficient, ineffective way possible. On the app (which anyone living in the modern age uses) it's impossible to vote.

I have the app, I just found it a bit annoying.  Not sure that has to do with age, but if you say so slick.

Hey, I might be in NYC the week of the Rutgers game, and was thinking of staying over to catch the game -- wanna meet up?

Well, despite our philosophical differences, we're Maize and Blue brethren and I'll have your back the whole way should one of those DBags want a piece of you.

Although, I am not a young buck anymore (41) and might get my ass whipped as I've gave up brawling in 20's.

Watching the Michigan State game ...

Michigan State just ran a run fake to the left side of the line, then Connor Cook turned around and threw a beautiful pass to catch his receiver in stride in the endzone.

Yeah, Wyoming, etc.  Still, a thing of beauty.  It was like Connor Cook didn't waste any time looking for his receiver -- he knew his receiver would be where he was supposed to be and put the ball exactly where it needed to be.

Not trying to pump up MSU ... but credit where credit due ... that was a pretty play.

I am not a fan of PSU but to dudes judging Franklin 4-5 games into his first season cmon.  Takes a few years to impact a program with your fingerprints.  Here we use excuses "transitions" "youth" "new coordinators" blah blah and you pile on Franklin - he has all the same excuses and sanctions to boot.  People are still allowing Hoke excuses in year 4 but rip on Franklin on game 4?

I have no idea if Franklin is any good but we wont know what he wants/builds for PSU until circa 2016.

That said - I hope PSU loses every game the rest of the year.

I agree, and think Franklin will be good at PSU.  I was commenting on the "hand wringers" who have come out of the woodwork -- some of whom were already handing the B10C to Franklin after a few games and whining that we missed out on him.

MSU's defense is certainly not 2013 level.  First time I am seeinga nobody run on them in 3 years.  Thought Nebraska had no chance because they are run oriented and MSU's run defense the past 3 years has been ridiculous.  Buy Wyoming has gashed them a few times.

MSU's offense is pretty ridiculous though.  Yes the opponent sucks but they are executing at will when Cook is in.

And MSU has special teams eh - blocks a FG. Sigh.

Sparty is impressive. Their players play with fire and intensity. They want to win no matter who the opponent is and should be able to run the table given their schedule... Although they won't get into the playoff due to their loss at Autzen.

God, you have no idea how much I'd love to see us beat the hell out of Penn State.

In every game, they play like sh*t against sh*t teams and then pull out a miracle at the end of the game.

Yet, I know when they play us for UTL III, they'll be up 14-0 in the first quarter.

Hell no to Todd Graham, that guy is a snake. The way he got to ASU was awful. I know you love watching them play, but I have to have some kind of morale standard. Not to the level of Hoke, but I can't just give up everything "Michigan." It doesn't have to be a Michigan Man or anything like that (I'd take Shaw, Sumlin, Strong, etc. - a great coach with no ties to Michigan, but with a clean background and values), but please give me someone who doesn't seem like a complete snake in the grass.

...every time someone brings up Miles.

I don't like LSU or Les Miles. I didn't want him the first or second time we had an opening.

It's hard to argue, but I really don't even think he's a great coach. I think he's more of an entity at this point and his assistants built him up IMO. Now I think he just survives because it's LSU, it's the SEC and he's in the talent rich south.

Most people would disagree, and I see why, but I've never liked Miles for Michigan. I think his antics are fine for the SEC...but at Michigan and in the B1G, I'm not a fan. The negative recruiting, the press conferences, the stuff that people don't mind nowadays because the SEC runs everything and it's all about wins and losses.

But no, I don't want either of them.

I'll take either Harbaugh though and they've got some controversy around them.

If it's indeed true...

Honest question (I find that it's best to ask these types of questions in a thread versus creating a thread and inviting the sarcasm and trolls).

...what are your initial thoughts?
