Sam Webb's Article on Mays Coaching Search
Didn't see this posted anywhere but Sam has an interesting article on the coaching search. Former EMU Coach Charles Ramsey & Beilein were instrumental. Props to Manual for getting it done.
I think that door is wide open now. AD Manuel seeking him out, and Coach May, obviously, being receptive to Coach Beilein's influence creates a scenario where our former coach can be a trusted advisor to our new coach. Who better than the old boss to serve as Consigliere to the new boss?
Don't know that he could do that and keep his gig at BTN as an analyst (which he is very good at, and likely decently paid).
That doesn't keep Urban from advising OSU...
John Beilein is a fucking saint.
I will never understand how the universe allowed the GREAT SATAN RICK PITINO to beat JB in a championship but JB will always remain one of the greatest Michigan coaches of all time.
My personal opinion is that John Beilein is the best basketball coach in the history of the sport.
Not best recruiter, not best personality, not the biggest name.
But if you're looking for the best person to coach a basketball team, there aren't many I'd consider ahead of Beilein.
Especially not anyone I'd rather have take the team out to Subway after the game.
Would love it if Beilein could come in as a GM or some other basketball leadership position.
Great write up. Really appreciate knowing how Coach May's hire came to pass and the fact that Coach Beilein was as involved as he was makes it seem even better.
Louisville used a former coach in their overture to May as well. For some reason Rick Pitino didn't have the same appeal as John Beilein.
