Fucking A. Horrible.

35 years old, retired, with millions in the bank.

Took a swim and never came back alive.

Ugh.

This is why I quit my Corporate job a few years ago and stopped worrying about my "savings".

You just never know when your time will come.

Live life like there is no tomorrow people.

Holy shit. how awful.

I was just reminiscing about him and when Brian said he’d be the #1 pick after he committed to coach Carr. Man that’s so sad.

RIP Ryan, and my condolences to his family.

I live on the Florida Gulf Coast not too far from the incident. If there are red flags or double red flags flying, DO NOT GET INTO THE WATER. Rip currents will pull you out, and it could end your life. It isn't worth it.

I almost died in the Pacific Ocean right off of Del Mar in 2020.  It was shocking how fast you lose control and are in trouble all of a sudden.  I strongly encourage everyone to read up on what you are supposed to do — and not do — when you are in trouble in the water.  After the incident — when I did some research — I did everything you should not do if you want to survive.  I was lucky.

Rest In Peace, Ryan.  So sad.

R.I.P Ryan.

Always be cautious around the water people, it can get even the strongest swimmer on a bad day. I grew up as a kid on the swim team and consider myself a strong swimmer but out in the Gulf, you get tired, it can pull you out.

Awful news, I remember how excited my brother and I were for that kid.  Strongest arm I've ever seen only rivaled by Joe Milton.  It was effortless.

Very sad news. My profile picture is him giving my youngest son an autograph back in 2007. He seemed like a good fellow, he joked around with my son for about a minute and then shook his hand.

holy hell....

terrible.

I have 3 athletic and brave children.  I worry about them doing stupid shit in these pacific NW rivers in spring and early summer.  Maybe I'm not getting too old and am correct in warning them of the hazards.

I liked Mallet much more than Henson.

Never underestimate the power of the ocean. Especially the pacific. No joke. (He died in the Atlantic but that should show you my point)

Very sad news. I always rooted for him. Be careful out there everyone. I have a beach vacation to the Gulf coming up soon. I'll think of Ryan and be extra diligent.

Gulf, Pacific, Atlantic, could happen even here in the Great Lakes.  My ex-wife worked at a dental office in Kzoo that would receive jaw bones and teeth sometimes whole skulls from Lake Michigan’s drowning victims for identification.  That lake is unforgiving.  As others have stated, heed the flag warnings and know what to do in a rip current.  Wear PFDs when out on the water kayaking, paddleboarding, etc.

That dentist was also part of a small go team tasked with ID’ing plane crash victims.

Godspeed Ryan Mallett.  May his family find solace and peace after his passing.
