Patterson definitely had more confidence and a good game but I agree with him locking on to his primary target. Can't do that against most of the upcoming opponents and expect to win.

On the one scramble TD he read his options and coverage and decided to go. It was a good decision.

Not RPO but reading receivers/coverage and running it opposed to throwing it. Hasn't looked comfortable running it IMO before today.

True. But on his Second TD, the cameraman was fooled so badly by the play-action “handoff” that Patterson made it all the way off camera! It’s pretty close to what Seth has been waiting for!

It's because our RB notably Haskins aren't effective at goalline runs. Not sure why Charbonnet doesnt.

I’m sorry but you can blame Patterson for other things. But it’s a joke that anyone can assume he’s always locking onto one receiver and not looking through progression this game.
How many of you here actually know what’s going on in the progressions? If you don’t, which should be the case for all of you, you should not be judging what he does with his head.
When he’s looking one direction, it may be that he’s reading a defender and making a decision based off of the defenders movement. It may be because it’s one on one coverage. Not every time does it mean he’s staring down the receiver every time you don’t see him move his head.
The amount of people that think they can make judgments over something so complicated is laughable, especially after a solid performance by Patterson throughout the game, where he made some really nice throws.

Look, I think Patterson gets a bad rap around here. He is a very accurate QB when given time and throws great on the run (like the one where he was rolling left and threw a dart 30 yards down).
But you cannot ignore the fact that there are usually multiple WR wide open on the opposite side of where he is looking on many, many plays. Most teams have already figured out they only need to cover one side of the field. He also has a tendency to lock into his safety blanket (Bell) and is why you miss a completely open DPJ with CB on the ground in the same direction as Bell and he does not notice it.
Patterson's lack of field view is a real problem and is the biggest knock against Harbaugh's reputation as the QB whisperer.
I hope he gets better, but Patterson has displayed enough shortcomings so far this season, including in this game.
P.S. Anyone who thinks Dylan/Milton is the answer is still crazy

Shea misses open receivers but the lack of a running game is really impacting the offense. Michigan has nice RBs but no game changers and defenses so far are selling out to stop the pass. 3 yards per rush against Rutgers is not good.

Well, put simply, people do have fucking eyes. They can also see multiple wide receivers open and Shea throwing to a covered person he hasn’t taken his eyes off of. I guess we’re all just really dumb.

Patterson was fine today. He only had one really egregious mistake which was the play where he bugged out of a clean pocket and didn't see DPJ even though his defender had fallen down.

Uhm not an over reaction when no effort was made to win that game. It wasn’t just a loss it was a beat down. Northwestern put up a better fight. The same NW team that lost to MSU.

Let's see if you're drawing that same conclusion next week after the Iowa game. Literally nothing can be taken from this game. We didn't all of a sudden get good this week. We all of a sudden played one of the 5-10 worst teams in the country.

He missed a few throws (Bell in endzone, INT) but was really good overall. This is the Shea we need moving forward.

I am still trying to figure out why the OL didn't dominate the LOS and pave the Rutgers DL. I thought we'd rack up at least 200 yards rushing. Very nice win and all but that is a little bit concerning.

I think it’s because their NT Previlon (sp?) is really good. He stood up to at least 3 Ruiz/Onwenu or Ruiz/Bredeson doubles and went nowhere. Despite all the discussion we’ve had about it, it remains astoundin to me how much of an impact a good NT can make.

Much better than last week. Looked to me like there were less reads for Patterson and he just played football. No turnovers is very encouraging. We have NFL wide outs and they need to be weaponized. I hope we survive next week, beat Illinois and get our young kids ready for the gauntlet.

There was a turnover. Patterson threw an INT when he underthrew Collins on the 3. He is the master of locking on Bell -- and under-throwing receivers.

Yep, you correct. I totally forgot that. I didn't have problem with the decision. 50/50 balls to our outside guys I can live with. It was under thrown and he did lock on but he looked more comfortable than last week to me.

Finally throws jump ball to Nico & (underthrows so it’s intercepted); please don’t now never throw that again. Need to throw it. Ok if intercepted occasionally if that’s best play and it will be sometimes

Agree. The other thing that made me OK with the INT is it was at the 5 yard line. Really low risk even if it’s an INT.

That's why I love it a 3rd and long play pretty much any time you are past midfield.
Just throw it up there and even if its an INT, you'll probably wind up leaving your defense in better field position than you would punting the ball.
