Even though it is Rutgers, this will be a telling game. Rutgers is looking a LOT better than in previous years.
Edit: We ALL slept on Rutgers.

Never take rivalry game for granted
September 19th, 2021 at 10:19 AM ^
I could see Rutgers getting 6 wins pretty easily, and even 8.
September 19th, 2021 at 4:11 PM ^
As long as none of them are us.
September 19th, 2021 at 12:08 PM ^
In all seriousness, as we see what is going on in college football each week, you really can't take anyone for granted anymore.
September 19th, 2021 at 10:27 AM ^
well after last years game we need to punish them before we can say much about them not being very good…but the reports of new Rutgers may be somewhat exaggerated. They pounded a moribund Temple team in week one but five temple turnovers massively padded the stats. Week two put them in a real battle with…Syracuse… which they won 17-7 taking advantage of four Syracuse turnovers. Then they took out a weak Delaware St team this week. Their offense hasn’t really produced much yet this year. I’m expecting them to struggle to score against us this year.
September 19th, 2021 at 11:03 AM ^
They're 3-0 and have a (mostly) real coach, maybe take them seriously for the first time in ever?
Yeah, I don't expect a lot of resistance, but they have a pulse so far this year. So take them as seriously as WMU, UW, and NIU were taken.
September 19th, 2021 at 2:39 PM ^
2014 was their last winning season. It is also the last time Rutgers' upperclassmen were populated solely by Greg Schiano's recruits. Maybe one shouldn't be surprised that with the return of Greg Schiano to Piscataway, Rutgers is tallying marks on the winning side of the ledger.
September 19th, 2021 at 11:35 AM ^
A defense that creates turnovers......is very,very,very dangerous.
September 19th, 2021 at 12:33 PM ^
It's going to be interesting. A major point of pride for Mike Hart back in the day was that he rarely fumbled. I'd expect to have him bring that type of mentality into the RB room.
Undefeated big ten teams should get national coverage, even if the other team is Rutgers.
September 19th, 2021 at 1:38 PM ^
Creating turnovers is not always a sustainable way to win, though.
September 19th, 2021 at 12:01 PM ^
If Michigan doesn't turn over the ball, they should win by 5 to 6 TDs.
September 19th, 2021 at 1:42 PM ^
Good thing about this 2021 team is they aren’t taking teams lightly. That NIU game had a real chance to be a boring 35-10 kind of win. They demolished them. Rutgers has improved and they are opportunistic. How do they get so many turnovers?
September 19th, 2021 at 10:18 AM ^
Rutgers' fans are very excited for the game....
September 19th, 2021 at 11:15 AM ^
Why do I feel the Rutgers Stadium does the Jersey Shore theme song as their version of Mr. Brightside?
September 19th, 2021 at 1:49 PM ^
What is that? Cult of the Sun tan people?
September 19th, 2021 at 10:22 AM ^
Ok, let's beat their brains in one more time and then kick them out of the B1G. Agreed?
September 19th, 2021 at 10:52 AM ^
Kicking them out is unrealistic, but would a lopsided score force them to lose their 's'? They were given the 's' back last season, but I would posit that they could lose it just as easily.
September 19th, 2021 at 10:41 AM ^
Can't wait. Impressive play so far by Michigan. Go Blue !
September 19th, 2021 at 10:43 AM ^
This will be an interesting game. I think Rutgers can slow down our running game but has very little chance of posing even a minimal threat to our defense. Will we FG and kill clock our way to victory or will we open it up a bit, try to score TDs, and put them away early?
September 19th, 2021 at 10:51 AM ^
Rutgers presents a very good test for our offense. don't need to be over-confident, but this game can be a confidence builder.
September 20th, 2021 at 10:41 AM ^
I think Gattis will get a lead, then start taking shots. He's been sticking with whatever has worked, but if I was a coach I'd want to make a statement with this game after last year.
September 19th, 2021 at 11:15 AM ^
Delaware’s starting RB rushed 15 times for 121 yards against Rutgers.
September 19th, 2021 at 11:30 AM ^
However, one of those was a 71 yarder
September 19th, 2021 at 12:15 PM ^
I mean if they can break big plays you know Corum will.
September 19th, 2021 at 2:03 PM ^
If Delaware can break off a long one on Rutgers defense, more so can Michigan.
September 19th, 2021 at 11:26 AM ^
There is something about Schiano and Rutgers that just works really well. He took them from a suck ass team to as high as #2 before splitting for Tampa Bay. He will have them highly motivated.
September 19th, 2021 at 12:12 PM ^
For the record, didn't former AD Bill Martin offer the Michigan coaching job to Greg Schiano before hiring RichRod?
Also, the Wisconsin-ND game this weekend should be an interesting one for some insights into how good (bad) the Badgers really are. But either way, playing in Camp Randall is always a visiting-team challenge. Go Blue.
September 19th, 2021 at 12:26 PM ^
Wisconsin-ND: not really sure what to make of ND. They coughed up an 18 point lead and barely beat what appears to be a bad FSU team, needed a last second score to beat Toledo and beat Purdue.
September 19th, 2021 at 1:35 PM ^
He was indeed offered - and apparently accepted, then changed his mind the next day.
September 19th, 2021 at 11:34 AM ^
I will admit, I am intrigued to see what Greg Schiano brings to Ann Arbor. While I hope we do indeed put them in a situation where they Rutger as we are accustomed to seeing, it doesn't feel like it will be nearly as easy as it has been in the past.
With respect to their precarious financial situation (per a story that was posted here a couple weeks ago), we should help them out with "RENT THE GARDEN" signs.

Just for the record, the Rutgers-Michigan game was always scheduled for 3:30 pm. And it was based on TV ratings and expected audience in the NY market, especially. There was no broadcaster listed but it seemed unlikely that Fox would do the game because of its baseball coverage and effort to crank lead-in show numbers for its big noon games leaving the late afternoon window to others, most especially CBS for big SEC matchups. ABC-ESPN while broadcasting college football daylong on Saturdays, typically centers its attention on the biggest night game draws.

Crank shaft has been there for what.. a decade?
September 19th, 2021 at 12:50 PM ^
I’ll get to mow the grass before watching the fighting schianos get boat races.
September 19th, 2021 at 12:52 PM ^
Michigan should win comfortably, but nothing is a given. Schiano is a great coach and he’s likely had this game circled in red ink since last year. They’ll be ready to play.
September 19th, 2021 at 1:09 PM ^
I know it hasn’t been announced yet, but are there any tea leaves as to whether the game in East Lansing will be at night? I seem to recall there being rules that each team had to have at least one home game at night or something to that effect.
Anyone have any helpful insight?

Treat this game and every game like it’s the game of the year . I think Michigan goes for another 300 this game and wins like 39-17. … but this can be an ugly Rutgers win if we are looking ahead to the Badgers .. I’m glad the run game and defense are what’s carrying the team , cuz those things about effort
