Ronald Bellamy on the Drive with Jack Ebling in Lansing 92.1 (O'Korn related)

Submitted by Maizen on

Former Michigan WR Ronald Bellamy, now the head coach at West Bloomfield High School, was on Jack Ebling's radio show a few days ago to talk Michigan and MSU football. He said from his discussions with the Michigan coaches and the people in the program, John O'Korn "just lit up" the first team defense as the scout team QB everyday in practice. He said he was doing it against Lewis, Peppers, etc and the Michigan defensive coaches told him that O'Korn was going to be a flat out stud.

On something less positive for Michigan fans he said that MSU commit Trishton Jackson (West Bloomfield HS QB) was the best athlete in the state this year and is better than Corley.

Thought this bit of info might asuage some of the people who are worried about the QB situation next year. FWIW this also falls in line with something Sam Webb shared on his message board earlier this year. Sam said Roy Manning (now at Washington State) told him that several Washington State coaches coached against O'Korn at other schools and said he's going to be a 1st or 2nd draft pick.

Future is bright everyone.

I mean, you can say that if you want, but the numbers support that idea. Like I said, it's a limited sample size, but his 6.8 yards/carry were far and away the best on the team. And he averaged 5.9 yards/carry at USC. His numbers in college look like this:

70 carries, 441 yards, 6.3 yards/carry, 3 TDs

That's not everything. You can't turn the ball over. You can't be a sieve when it comes to blocking. But the kid can run the ball.

Trishton Jackson is good, but not good enough to prevent his 9-0 WBHS Lakers from losing to a 5-4 Novi team.  That had to have been the biggest upset in the MHSAA playoffs this year.

I can't really disagree about Trishton Jackson. He's long and lanky with very good speed. He's not very polished because he was a dual-threat QB before this past season when he switched to WR some, but he has very good potential.

This information would vibe with what my insiders have told me as well (regarding O'Korn.)

That said, I am a little skeptical sometimes with these practice reports - because the same ppl told me that BRandon Smith was a future all american and that Devin Gardner would've been the best WR in the B10 (might've been true if he stayed there.)

Same ppl also said Mike Cox was the best RB at MI since Mike Hart but was in the doghouse too much with RR.

Give him a game or two to get on the same page with the starters, and it could be brutally awesome next year.

Also gives me some hope for the group of receivers he was working with, especially Drake Harris. I really thought this would be his break-out year.

people had in the 100 preseason rankings threads.  Now what are the excuses why we should not be ranked in the top 5 preseason?  Yeah I know......LBs blah blah blah

MSU should be getting at least the level of recruits they are getting. 50 wins over five seasons, two major bowl wins, an established program and head coach, and an appearance in the playoff.  If I followed them, I'd be wondering why they aren't doing way better actually.  If Michigan strings together a half-decade like that their classes will be insane.

has gotten a lot better.  I look at average star per player more so than where the class is ranked.  In 2016 so far MSU's average star per player is 3.47, for a comparison Michigan's is 3.46.

MSU's recruiting, average star per player, under Dantonio:

07 - 2.7

08 - 2.71

09 - 3.3

10 - 3.05

11 - 3.0

12 - 3.11

13 - 3.11

14 - 3.27

15 - 3.35

16 - 3.47

They can be pretty hit or miss in recruiting, because college quarterbacks put a lot more zip on the ball, and the receivers will face tougher coverages in college. These guys may pan out, but being a big time contributor in the first year or two is a lot to ask at that position because they need to learn to block cornerbacks and safeties- that takes experience. I don't think any of the guys are world beaters, and I dont thonk they'll have a QB that will reliably throw to them this year. I'll take O'Korn, Chesson, Darboh, and Butt over whatever the hell comes out of East Lansing this year.
