Rocco Spindler's top 10

Clarkston (MI) Clarkston offensive guard/defensive tackle Rocco Spindler named Michigan to his top 10 today. It's a group that also includes Alabama, Arizona State, Florida, LSU, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Penn State, and Tennessee.

Spindler is a 4-star, the #2 offensive guard, and #42 overall. Six out of eight Crystal Ball picks are for U of M. I always wondered if Pitt would be a factor since his dad went there, but they offered and didn't make his top 10.

Nobody on your list is worthy of carrying Bob Dylan's jockstrap.

(for that matter, who is?)

Back on track: At some point---AND WHY NOT NOW?!?!?!! ---we need to stop even the occasion flow of talent from this state to Ohio St.!  They seem to have become able to stop the flow north of nearly all Ohio talent from our Michigan football program, and until Tressel got well-established there, we never lacked a fairly substantial number of Ohio kids on our roster.

Alabama, OSU, ND, and LSU?  Assuming those are all commitable offers, it’s going to be a challenge for Harbaugh to keep him in state.  It would be a big win and kudos for him if he does.  If not, well....I’m sure some fellow posters will cover that topic shortly.

As an avid listener of the world's ONLY college football podcast, the Shutdown Fullcast, I am happy to see that Spindler is considering Arizona State. I just hope he doesn't consider it too much.

I'm not one of these that think that Michigan needs to land a bunch of in state players for the sake of keeping them here, but when you have 5 star talent and cant miss players in state you need to make sure you keep them home. We've missed a few of those lately and that needs to stop. Rocco would be a huge loss if he goes elsewhere. Ohio St keeps the in state players they want and let the rest go elsewhere.

Pretty easy for OSU to keep all the top talent instate. They have no instate competition, their state is usually and inexplicably one of the 5-10 best states in the country for HS football, so the state is flush with top recruits who've grown up dreaming of playing for OSU and only OSU, and they've been winning at a high level, nonstop, for the past 20 years.

Michigan has considerably more barriers in its road to success. Granted, Michigan has to find a way to deal with that, but OSU has built-in advantages that Michigan will never have.

Offensive guard?  Is there any other kind?  It's kind of like when people say defensive secondary.  Just makes me shake my head.

Oh, and with Alabama and OSU on that list, he gone.

A question for you Magnus.  What is your opinion on the top talent in the state this year?  I am fortunate enough to have my sons to Lake Orion so I have watched both Edwards (crazy 48-45 4OT game) and Rocco (we FINALLY beat them) this past year.

I am certainly just a fan, but I like Rocco more than Edwards.  What are your projections for these young men?

With a top 10 that includes Bama, LSU, Notre Dame, OSU, and Oklahoma Im just going to assume we have 1% chance even if he is crystal balled to us at the moment
