I was the web producer for the Regis & Kathi lee TV website for ~1 yr. I never spoke to him, but was on the phone with Gelman a number of times. This was around the Who Wants to Be a Millionaire hey day, so Regis was in demand and everyone who worked on the show were very careful with him as he was high maintenance. A friend actually produced a "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire CD-ROM game" around that time and she recorded him for a number of sessions. ...and had to handle him with kid gloves. (metaphorically) He was also a big football fan (ND). RIP Regis.
Not surprised regarding the high maintenance part. My first girlfriend in LA was a producer for Dr. Phil and he was just a terrible person to work for.
Dr Phil or Regis? Both? How'd that work out for her? Is that your final answer?
To Hell with Notre Dame
but RIP Regis
Here's an SNL skit about replacing Regis back in 2011. Don't think NBC let's you embed, but here's the link.

Never saw that bit, thanks, LOL.
RIP Regis, my GF absolutely adored him, despite his being an ND fan, I enjoyed his personality too, 88 years old, the man lived a good life.
That sucks. He was an icon.
Who remembers Regis was second banana on the Joey Bishop show opposite Johnny Carson in the late 60's?
RIP / to hell with Norte Dame.
Regis is king
He got his money's worth. RIP, Regis. The morning show was never the same without you.
RIP Regis. Had the opportunity to meet him 2x. One of the nicest and most gracious people you'd hope to meet.
RIP Regis. Don't know how you put up with Kathie Lee all of those years....
I've been seeing his face forever but I don't think I've ever watched a minute of any of his shows.
Just keeping the 2020 vibe going. Some year.
He was 88, he wasn't going to live forever like Keith Jackson.
Wait, Keith Jackson is alive now?
I remember for a couple of months "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" was the Number 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 Nielsen-rated show because they were showing it almost every night. It was insane. I can't remember anything like that ever since.
He’s in the guiness record book for most amount of hours being on tv with nearly 17K
He gave the best explanation for a long marriage.
"Man's ability to withstand pain."
Sorry that 2020 was the final answer. RIP
While in South Bend for a Michigan vs. ND game back in the day, I was near the book store and held the door for Regis as he came in. I sarcastically said he needed to dump Kathy Lee because she was holding him back. A short while later she was off the show. #TrueStory
Graduate of ND and then served in the Navy during the height of the Cold War, after growing up poor in NYC.
Talk about having real life experiences in life. Not like today's bloggers where they push their agendas based on K-mart's closings.
I dont know where to find it, but there was a game @ND in the 80s where they interviewed Regis on the sideline. He guaranteed ND would win, only for the camera to pan away from his interview to a long Michigan touchdown (help me Wolverine Historian).
RIP
The only game Michigan won at South Bend in the 1980's was in 1986, when Michigan beat ND 24-23 in Lou Holtz's debut as head coach. The longest Michigan TD play was a 27 yard pass from Harbaugh to Jamie Morris midway through the 3rd quarter.
If he met St. Peter at the Pearly Gates, I sure hope the exchange went like this:
Regis: Can I get into Heaven?
St. Peter: Did you live a good life that would have earned you admission?
Regis: Yes!
St. Peter: IS THAT YOUR FINAL ANSWER?
I spent a day working with him on one of his book tours. He was very friendly and high energy, but not the typical high maintenance celebrity. RIP.
My wife is a huge Regis fan. She was devastated when she heard the news today.
RIP Regis. He was a big ND fan, since he was an alum. So, I won't hold that against him. Seem like a nice guy way back when I would watch Regis and Kathi Lee show time to time, and later on who wants to be a millionaire. It seem like yesterday when I would see Kathi Lee sing on those carnival cruise commercials when I was a student at Michigan in the early 80s, then see her with Regis on a news talk show a few years later.
Great story teller. Lots of energy.
