Response to the NCAA needs to be F*CK YOU and loud!

Submitted by Bo Harbaugh on January 6th, 2023 at 12:03 PM

We all know the absurdity and arbitrary nature of the NCAA - picking and choosing battles of minutia and looking the other way on legit criminal activity. I could do an entire grad thesis on the hypocrisy and malfeasance.

That said, Ward Manuel and Jim Harbaugh need go full court press, burn it down PR campaign in regards to this bs.

Hang the Fab 5 Final 4 banners Warde - everywhere.

Call out the SEC bullshit and years of "bagging" on ESPN Jim

This hit job is absurd and I can't even imagine the frustration of Jim and staff given the shit they know and hear about that goes on in recruiting, and UM gets dragged through the mud - absolute joke.

Time to fight back.

I think Harbaugh should go the other way on this and issue a very public and profound apology while over-sharing the exact details of the violations. "In December 2020 I ordered 2 combo burger meals, one medium rare, one medium...etc, I now know the hurt and ramifications this has caused my team, coaches and family...etc. An equal playing field is critical to the integrity of the game and this clearly crossed a line with our competition. " if he can feign the sincerity and end with some like, "I thank the ncaa for holding me accountable and look forward to the enforcement of these violations across all of college football" it would be hilarious and highlight the absurdity.

"I sincerely hope my precious comments were not taken to mean the NCAA is a stupid, worthless, organization, given to creating the appearance of integrity rather than pursuing actual cases of corruption, consistently, thereby rendering itself useless. Nor did I want my comments in any way to be understood as suggesting the NCAA knows it has no substantial violations with me or my program, but wanted to take advantage of a program that traditionally bent over backwards to accommodate the NCAA image, unaware that this program will no longer participate in maintaining the NCAA's illusion of responsibility or even ability of enforcement.

If I gave anyone that impression, that was not what I intended at all. Some have interpreted my comments to mean, 'F%ck the NCAA,' but that is not what I have said in the past nor am saying now. So I hope people repeat that over and over to be clear that I am not saying, 'F%ck the NCAA.'"

I like the phrase "hit job". They can't convince me that OH State, Mich State or Penn State, to name a few, didn't do the same thing. They weren't caught seems to be difference.

I hope that this lights a fire under harbaugh, Howard, and Michigan.  I want them all to say “oh, yeah?  Watch this!” and the NIL is managed properly but ramped in to high gear

It's really sad to see people rushing to defend Harbaugh before even knowing the details of what he's accused of.

This is the sort of behavior that Michigan fans have pilloried OSU fans for, going on years now.

If it was a misunderstanding, so be it; we can all move on with our lives.  If he's not guilty, even better.  But Michigan has long prided itself for transparency, honesty, and doing things the right way. It hasn't always lived up to those ideals.  But this whataboutism is painful to watch.

I don't care if every other school cheats.  I would rather Michigan lose with honor than win without it.  As a fan, I've invested my time, energy, and quite a bit of my disposable income into following Michigan sports.  If they've been cheating, we, as fans, are the victims.  What's the use in being emotionally invested in something that isn't real?

I suggest zero cooperation with the NCAA - appeal every decision and if they take away scholarships, create an NIL “walk-on” offer to make up for the scholarships. If they take away three a year for four years, then counter with three special preferred walk-on positions during that time. They can be corporate sponsored walk-on positions that are more valuable than a typical scholarship position. It comes with free tuition, $5k per month for expenses a daily meal per diem and possibly a free vehicle lease. Name it something like John Doe Ford NCAA Hypocrisy Preferred Walk-On program.

They literally have FBI recorded conversations of players being paid that went unpunished yet they come after northern schools because nobody in the south gives a damn. Punishing any SEC school would be met with backlash, but punish a Big Ten school and you will appear to have some power. I don’t like OSU either, but we need to join together and say you’re done screwing us over while letting southern and west coast schools do as they please.

Time for Michigan to lead the Power 5 schools into developing a football-only organization that creates rules all will abide by and that make sense for the teams and the players. NCAA can regulate the non-revenue sports.

The "enforcement" of the "rules" by the ncaa isn't arbitrary, (Late edit:) it's intentional and reminiscent of mafia tactics. There is an unspoken set of rules in the ncaa where members give unreported (and therefore untaxed and illegal) lump sums of cash to potential recruits to sign. Michigan has been very public with their opposition to this practice.

It's not a coincidence that the ncaa has targeted michigan for two extremely minor violations of rules in the last ten years. If you have an organization that does illegal shit, and one of your members not only doesn't do the illegal shit but speaks publicly against it, you can't trust that member and need to discredit them.

This is a targeted campaign by the ncaa to discredit a blue blood that publicly denounces the illegal shit that the rest of the members do.

This is immensely stupid, but it seems like not cooperating is what made these sanctions become serious in the first place. At this point think we just say what they need you to say in relation to these charges so you don't get suspended or bowl banned or something, but at the same time work to get away from the dumb system we're in and create more reasonable rules.

Saying F you would feel good right now. But none of us will be happy if we're not in a bowl next year because these wackos "make an example"

"Bowl banned"?

The sport has spoken.  $>>>>NCAA.

Hell, the NCAA ITSELF maintains that relationship.

If NCAA tries to bowl ban UM, I would LOVE it. Because UM would go to a bowl and deliver ratings gold ANYWAY. It would just accelerate the demise of the NCAA and the NCAA knows it. Would never NEVER bowl ban if UM pushed back bc it would totally blow up in their faces.

I  hope the University says the same thing and does not fear the NCAA and come out with their own punishment and sanctions. I always fear this over the NCAA penalties.

Jim should just make a policy that any kid, athlete or not, that stops by his office will be given a hamburger at the Jug.  As long as the policy is universal, it cannot be punished.  UNC taught me that.

I think they should have a press conference at Crisler where Harbaugh profusely apologizes for those dastardly burgers while the banners slowly get raised behind him by the members of the Fab 5.

I totally agree. The NCAA has always been a joke, but the complete absurdity of this "investigation" given everything that is happening in CFB today take it to another level altogether. Warde, Harbaugh, Santa everyone should respond to this by first laughing their asses off at the NCAA, and if they actually try to suspend Harbaugh or something to scorched Earth PR.

Sorry, but I disagree.

If you are a member of an organization and proclaim to abide by its rules, then abide by its rules.

If others decide to break the rules, flagrantly or otherwise, and the enforcement mechanism isn't applied to the organization members fairly, then address and fix the faulty enforcement mechanism. It doesn't give one carte blanche to break those same or other rules.

Bad behavior by one doesn't excuse bad behavior by others.
