That's exactly what is probably going to happen and it would be the right move.  As for anyone in their recruiting class bolting, none of that class are in a position to leave MSU.  Most of them were only recruited by MSU and MAC schools.  They are going to stay.  The only decent recruit, the running back, changed his mind and didn't sign.  He's gone already.

We shouldn't start our victory laps yet.  Before assuming Tressel is going to be a stiff, remember these two salient facts:  1. He obviously is Dantonio's first choice and no matter what you think about Mark D, he knows a little something about coaching.  2. When OSU hired his uncle Jim, he was OSU's THIRD CHOICE.  Glen Mason was numero uno and I forget who was their second choice.  So, let's not start our victory dance too soon.

MSU's recruiting is pretty much down to 2- and 3-star instate kids who either have dreamed of playing for MSU for generations or who have no other options besides the MAC, with an occasional 4-star who comes with legal/academic trouble sprinkled in. This uncertainty won't hurt them as much as it would hurt a school that actually recruits competitively.

Dantonio would surely try to get the job to his loyal staff... and Tressel.. maybe the Fickell thing was only appeasement to the fans, akin to Brandon going after Harbaugh but getting rebuffed.

Stop with the incorrect narrative about the stupid bonus.  It had nothing to do with his timing as to the resignation.  If Dantonio would have gone to the AD last year and said he was considering quitting, they would have paid him the bonus regardless of the date on the contract.

He chose the timing of waiting until last week to insure that MSU could not do a proper head coach search, resulting in his hand picked successor, Mike Tressel, getting the job.

It’s gonna be either Tressel or McElwain.

Neither of them will do well.

So root for McElwain because he’ll be there more than a year unlike Tressel.

My favorite part of the whole thing is the people on social media who are bashing “journalists” for saying something they dont like. Someone actually called the job, the most highly sought sports job in michigan. Another was the comment “at least we dont have to go for our 4th or 5th option like you (michigan BBall) did with with Howard”

everyone over there is loosing their shit and falling apart and things are really going to be interesting this upcoming season for them!!

My favorite take on there is promoting Tressel (unconscionable up until this morning) is now akin to Dabo, Lincoln Riley, Ryan Day all being promoted from within, and adding an OC is all they need LOL
