Random on Twitter: Fred Jackson to return

Submitted by Helloheisman on
Random on Twitter is saying that Fred Jackson to return. Anyone else hearing this? Below is the context of tweet... @Ty_Fenwick: 2016 RB recruit Kentrail Moran tells me he's been told by a current player on the team that RBs coach Fred Jackson is staying at #Michigan.

With much respect to Freddy J, I hope he doesn't. He's been around a long time and done great things and represented the University well, but its time to hang it up.

The issue with Wheatley is that he's too qualified to be a RB coach, but not qualified enough to be an OC. I guess something like RB coach and running game coordinator works, but I don't know if outsiders would view it as BS for when he wants to be an actual OC.

So, are we already doubting Harbaugh's judgment? Not me. If Jackson stays, he must have something to offer. Is it possible that the hivemind is wrong on this point?

People do the same thing with Beilein...

You can have a great coach, the best coach, which we have...and not blindly follow every little thing.

I love BOTH of our coaches, but I'm not just going to agree with every single move.

Fred Jackson is old and out of touch, he does not need to be coaching anymore. PERIOD.

Please God, no.  Let this not be the case.  If Harbaugh doesn't fire Fred Jackson then it tells me he's either not a great judge of assistants after all or doesn't demand performance from them.  Nobody who has watched Michigan's RB development for the past decade could possibly in their right mind justify keeping that worthless bum on the staff.

Worthless bum?

I've been LEADING the NO Fred Jackson train for over a year now. Ask Magnus.

Don't call the man a bum. He's a legend. But he's old, out of touch, and he's no longer the man for the job.

Don't say that, that's just disappointing and f-ed up on so many levels. Disgusting.

Let's not wait until we find out if it's true or, if so, in what capacity he's staying. Let's certainly not wait for the whole staff to get formed.

Let's totally freak out about some random dude on twitter.

I just don't see any way he continues to be the RB Coach. Like others have said, he may stay on with the program in some capacity, but he won't be the RB coach.

To be fair they never said what his position would be, he could be some lesser role coach and not the RBs coach. He's been at UM a long time so i doubt they just kick him to the curb. Of he is in fact the RB coach, then I will be slightly more concerned.

Then put Manning at RB coach if it's that easy and just let him recruit.

If Jackson wants to have story time, he can swing by the team hotel on Friday's and share a story after team meetings.

Now I think there's a little more to it than fixing the OL, but again, if it's that simple...I STILL don't want Jackson. Hire Manning at the position and let Jackson play Team Grandpa in some other role.

Jackson has no upside for the future. He's not going to be an OC, he's not going to be a HC. UM got into this mess because the Mo/Carr era didn't bring in enough new blood to foster a coaching tree. Harbaugh needs to really start growing one or UM ends up in the same place all over again.

I may be the only guy who doesn't dislike Fred.  I'd like new blood as well but if Harbaugh thinks he's a good coach, who am I to question him?

On a side note I haven't heard good things about Wheatley as a coach.

Everyone says we haven't produced a great back since Hart left.  We haven't produced a great team since Hart left, except one (2011).  And that year we had a healthy Fitz Toussaint run for over 1,000 yards.

Carlos Brown averaged almost six yards a carry his senior year, but he was banged up.  Even Brandon Minor averaged over five yards a carry as a senior.

When we had quality offensive line play, the RBs did their job.  I'm not saying we should definitely keep Fred, but I think the strong dislike for him is a bit harsh when you look at all the backs he's developed and the numbers his RBs put up behind good offensive lines.
