Programs with most portal entries-so far

There aren’t any playoff teams in that list you have, which is to be expected when a ring is still on the table. Would be interesting to revisit in Feb.

Still a good baseline though, and not surprised to see A&M leading the way. Do you think those checks cleared yet?

The exodus of A&M players isn’t surprising, but is funny.

I wonder if it’s mostly the freshman who received their signing bonuses but want to actually win games, or if it’s primarily the upper classmen who want to actually win games, or if it is a mix of freshman and upperclassmen who want to actually win games.

I didn't look at who were in portal from A&M and Alabama, I am sure there are some highly recruited ones out of high school. However, All was a starter before his injury, and Cade was the QB behind last year's Big Ten Championship team, both were team captains as well. 

Does it just feel "broadcast all over the place" because we're in a relative Michigan bubble? I saw the Cade news as an ESPN headline but that's not abnormal for a former CFB playoff QB. Even JT Daniels got a headline. I'm not feeling particularly hard done by the media covering our transfers.

That's probably 75 high-3 to high-4 star kids out looking for a new school.  

Kinda feels like some anticipated. If the only reason someone is with you is for money, they have no reason to stay if they get a bigger better deal elsewhere or if you're tapped out.

Michigan wants guys hungry to plan and prove themselves - we say - and so those guys, at least many of them, stick around to finish the job. That leads to a lower recruiting class ranking, but as we are seeing, if it doesn't translate to winning, ... bye felicia.

MSU doesn't lose as many players to the portal because they are too busy losing them to "the hole."

Thanks for the list. My hunch is that MSU would have more transfers out under Tuck being that they aren't going to any bowl game.

Maryland is also surprising since Locksley seems like a player's type coach. 

The portal has become the new way to process players out that are underperforming or if the team needs the space for new recruits. There is no sit out a year after transferring now so those players can immediately go to another school and play right away. 
 

I don’t necessarily think this is a bad thing for the players themselves, but overall it ain’t a good thing. Maybe the culture at Michigan and some other schools will take off if Michigan continues to have success making playoffs and beating OSU on the regular. Maybe then more top ranked players might look towards going to schools that have continuity in the coaching staff and teammates to get to where they want to go. You’ll probably always have a small handful dissatisfied with their playing time and opt to go try somewhere else, but hopefully less underclassmen that get processed that way.

There's been some consternation over Michigan's 2023 recruiting class, but I wonder if the impact of a down class can be mitigated by transfer portal. The schools with lots of transfers are all high in HS recruiting rankings, so there is talent to be found in the portal which should be able to paper over holes in the incoming freshman class. 

Michigan has issues getting underclass transfers in but has done well with grad transfers - Olu/Okie this year, more examples in prior years. If the staff and school's NIL can outperform competitors in transfer recruiting, we should end up fine, now and in the future.

I guess when you're not starting at Bama, being yelled at by Nick Saban on a daily basis isn't very fun.  Coupled with not making the playoff, of course.
