Funny how Michigan lost Cade, All and Hansen and it was broadcast all over the place. Not saying we won’t lose more but look at the list here in just a few days.

TX A&M-21

Oregon-15

Bama-14

Florida-14

Oklahoma-13

Maryland-13

N Carolina-11

Miami(Fla)-11

Va Tech-10

Texas-9

Clemson-8

Southern Cal-7

Michigan, Penn St, Ohio St and Notre Dame under 5 apiece. MSU is at 6 I believe.

Maybe there was some wisdom to Harbaugh's "tranformational not transactional" pov.  Not saying we shouldn't be leaders in NIL, but there's something to be said for finding the right way to do this - players aren't under contract after all.

For all those that mocked Harbaugh's comments and UM being foolish about the new realities of CFB, maybe - like with Harbaugh's tenure at UM - we should have some patience and perspective and see where things are headed.

I think it's situational

M lost a QB who was great in 2021 but appeared to be broken in terms of his play in 2022 & I'm guessing wants to be a starter.

We had a former starting TE who had surgery not recommended by U of M and who wouldn't be cleared to play at Michigan

And a former highly ranked TE who wasn't able to see the field

I think these are very much a positive.

Some of these aren't surprises, since they have 1st year coaches. Usually a lot of attrition.

TAMU is a dumpster fire so not shocked. I think it's funny Bama, which has overloaded on recruits (talked about often here), is now seeing that 4 and 5 star guys want to start now.

UNC is the weird one. Mack's been there a while and they had a decent season.

Not sure it's "all over the place" on a national level.  I get we see it all the time because we follow Michigan.  MSU likes to take a shot whenever they even sense an opening, so they are going to try and amplify it.  The two big names that left were already out for the season, so no reason not to get a jump on the portal (unless they wanted to be a part of the playoff run and get a ring which they may get anyway?)

I don't see many if any more leaving before the playoffs.  Really not much upside and you don't get to go on this ride!

Texas A&M continues to be a cautionary tale for those who assume that just stockpiling talent will automatically lead to championships. To have that kind of historic recruiting class and not even make a bowl game, much less challenge for a national title, is a pretty damning indictment of Jimbo Fisher's program.

I'd be curious to know if A&M has essentially created a culture of mercenaries and gun for hires. I don't know that they have, I'm not motivated enough to go and do the research, but if they have then the exodus is not surprising. You get a bunch of highly rated guys in there who are only there because someone handed them a big, sweaty wad of oil money and they don't really care for the school or the program that they're playing for. Just the paycheck.

Easy to go along with the rah rah we love A&M mentality when/if you're winning, but if you're losing, its easy to just peace out and look for the highest bidder.

I'm not sure all this data is correct (if it's from 24/7) or if it's apples to apples (e.g., same time frame?). Just looking at Clemson on 24/7, for instance, the dates and hence players listed per transfer window year are obviously wrong - 8 players in the upcoming transfer window but they all entered in 2021. Then the same players are listed in the '21 window.

I think this deserves some attention/may be something there but the data on 24/7 needs a closer examination.

Also if you look at Michigan's 2022 window, we had 12 departures (not a data quality issue but rather a counterargument). And as for our current 4 in the portal, well the portal window continues into next year...

I just went to several of the teams listed portal window and counted the players. I didn’t do a deep dive into it. I just posted it mostly because of the amount of players in the portal for those top teams on the list.

As far as our portal entries, they are likely to expand but so might these same teams that are way ahead right now

I'm a bit surprised to see Clemson so high because for a long time that was their brand - retain players and not dip into the portal.

Anyway, guys should be free to move around and you just have to adapt as a program.  Feels like UM will do a good job with that in the end.

I think you think Michigan's transfers got "blasted all over the place" because you notice Michigan-related news more often. When big-name players from anywhere transfer, it gets widely reported. The national media isn't engaged in an anti-Michigan conspiracy.

Lots of players in the portal, including quite a few 4 and 5 stars. I scrolled through the first 200 or more names and only recognized a few that Michigan was in the running for out of high school. Kevonte Henry is leaving Oklahoma after one year, and Miles Hinton and Stephon Herron Jr. are both portaling from Stanford.

Is the B1G the only conference who offers four year scholarships?   I know there was discussion on this topic a while ago, but don’t know which other conference(s) also signs players to four years, vs one year renewables.

One thing to note - In this new age of NIL and Transfer Portal, Harbaugh will win.  Why?  Because the college system is morphing into an NFL style system.  Harbaugh is an expert at managing an NFL style model, and he will be well ahead of many coaches who are not accustomed to this model.  I suspect Harbaugh is grinning end to end as he will flourish with this model.
