Peter King Interview of Amon-Ra St. Brown

You may know most of his story but King goes pretty deep into his draft-day experience, reaction, and the enormous chip he carries after going in the 4th round.  Also:

  • Being tri-lingual
  • Using the chip as fuel to accomplish his goals
  • Are the Lions contenders this year?

I'm more excited for the Lions this year then I am for Michigan. I've been a fan for 35+ years and I've never been this excited before.

I have drowned myself in the blue Kool aid.

Yup, it's been a long time coming.  I remember when they drafted Barry and I was excited as a fan to be able to cheer him on but felt sorry for him knowing the incompetence of the Lions organization.

I used to think Campbell was a meathead, and he might be, but he is uber-passionate, hired an awesome OC and Holmes has done a super job filling the roster with talent.

This should be an outstanding year for both programs.

As someone who has also been a Lions fan for several decades (and watched every single game during the 0-16 season), this attitude is baffling to me. Michigan has legit national title aspirations. The most I can conjure up for the Lions this year is cautious optimism we make the playoffs. How many times can they hurt you before you stop giving yourself hope! As Lions fans we've seen this story over and over and over again. At the end of the day, when that final whistle blows, we will all bow our heads and mutter "same old Lions".

Same here. I was a massive Lions fan in the mid 90's as a kid. Barry was my hero. We'd get home from church and I'd have the tv on asap every Sunday to watch them, even in the later years when the team was basically Barry and that's it. I was so looking forward to him smashing the all-time rushing record, especially since I knew Emmitt Smith would likely pass Peyton since he could basically have a nice tea break in the backfield before wiping his mouth and simply galloping through gaping holes every play as a result of having an all-time great OL every season. I hated that anyone would remotely think Smith was the same league as Barry. Put Barry behind the Cowboys OL Smith had and he easily puts up over 20k yards in 10 seasons. I wanted Barry to just crush the record so Smith would have no shot at it. Alas, something in me broke when Barry retired, and I've only marginally followed the Lions since.

But are you really a Lions fan if you're not buying into the Kool Aid every year?  Whether its Super Bowl run hype like this year, or just some simple competitiveness, doesn't matter - you drink that blue colored Kool Aid and say its great!  I mean, that's the essence of being Lions fan...

When you can look forward to a decent season regardless of where the team is at, you can say you're a Lions fan.

Have you watched 'Inside the Den' this year? Has me more stoked for the Lions than I've been in a very long time. The third episode is, to me, a clear indication of just how right the organization is doing things. These guys are going to be fun to watch! And with the season Michigan should have, this has the makings of a fall to remember!

The most excited I have been for the Lions in a very long time.  Probably since Herman and Barry in the early 90s.  Also Perriman.  Those guys made Scott Mitchell look decent on occasion, not an easy task.

I know a guy who was a long time lion's season ticket holder....   one season he and his lion posse went to see the lions play cleveland in cleveland (might have even been a preseason game, i'm not sure)...

Anyway, the home team was calling for their backup QB before the first half was over....   The Lions fans, at that moment, realized Cleveland and Detroit were the Corsican Brothers of the NFL.
