Peppers post game interview

Submitted by We are back on
Peppers is the heart of this team and for the guys who said this was planned for him not to play, shame on you, you should feel really bad right now to question Peppers character like that. If Peppers should go to the NFL he should go down as one of Michigan's all time greats, throughout his time here at Michigan all we heard about was how he was the hardest working man everyday, he truly loves Michigan and his teammates. Great player, but tough saying he's one of the all time greats when he never won a Big Ten title, never played in a bowl game, never beat OSU, and beat MSU only once. He never made those big time plays in real big time games.

Just my opinion, but he doesn't belong in the same category as Howard, Woodson, Carter, or Harmon. Not unless he comes back next year and proves me wrong, which I'd love for him to do.

all time greats make big plays in big games. think Woodson vd. MSU and OSU. Braylon vs. MSU. Desmond vs. ND and OSU. hell this year the most memorable play was probably Lewis INT vs Wisconsin. what memorable plays has Peppers had? for me, they were all against Rutgers.

You think Peppers is overrated and disappears in big games. You've stated your opinion, no need to keep hammering the same points home in the same thread over and over again. What I see is a player that other teams scheme around whether on defense or offense. Just because he doesn't make every big play, doesn't mean he isn't having huge impact on the game and creating opportunities for his teammates. Name another player that can even play the number of positions he did at even an average level. He's ridiculous.

so he's GOT for playing the most positions at an "above average" level? he's not close to the best DB we've ever had. he's not close to the best LB we've ever had. he's up there with Breaston as far as best KR/PR we've had, but I give Breaston #1. again, he'll of an athlete. incredibly versatile. not elite.

of frustration and anger here over last night's result mixed in with misinformation being reinterpreted without supported detail on Jabrill. He said in a very distraught interview after the game that he wanted to play in the worst way to support his teammates but knew doing so would only hurt the team. He said had the game been played today instead of last night, he would have been on the field.

More importantly, he said that he's had an insurance policy covering him since being injured as a freshman because it was the first time he realized football as a career could be taken away from him.

Based on that, it seems his immediate future seems less certain. His decision to move onto the pros instead of staying at Michigan, is now a more striking decision about his prospects and whether he feels he has unfinished business at school whether to continue development in his education as a college player at a position he will play as a pro or to simply make the leap everyone expects based on his likely early draft status.

I suspect he won't be deciding until he gets over the immeditate pain of the Orange Bowl game.

Maybe its because I'm a 57 year old cynic by nature but I'll admidt I questioned it.  The timing of the announcement with no advance word of the injury coupled with alcohol, coupled with the frustration of the game coupled with him not being on the sidelines and the recent announcements by Fournette & Mcaffrey made me openly question if he was really injured or not.  Got into a bit of twitter debate with WD over it as a matter of fact.

Glad to be wrong.  But I'll own up to being "one of those guys" last night.

But you admit it, so many others won't and don't.
The point you made that I too question in just one way is why didn't he go to the sidelines to be with his teammates. I get the disappointment may have been too great, and I respect that. Just seems that the team could have used his leadership on the sideline. Just a thought, not a criticism, he's a young man, he gets to be emotional when something like this happens. That's his right.

To those who think he sat on purpose, I have but only one question. Why would he practice so hard and warm up before the game if he knew he was going to sit? Just the look on his face told me what I needed to see, that he wanted to go, but physically couldn't.
I don't think he stays for his senior year, but there is a lot of unfinished business in Ann Arbor. He has never played in a bowl game, never won a championship, and hasn't beaten Ohio State. He's a great talent. One of the best, but he's got so much that he could yet do here.

I don't think he sat on purpose but just to play devil's advocate I think it would be the best decision to make if you were going to sit because I am sure they weren't going all out as far as tacking drills were concerned where injuries are more likely. But by doing it the way he did, no one can ever know for sure which makes him sort of immune to the same type of criticism that McCaffrey and Fournette got. That being said, I think he was going to play and his coaches said no, this is not going to happen because they know he is headed to the NFL now.

Greatest athletes to ever wear the Maize n Blue period. For anyone who doubted his injury you either haven't followed Jabrill since he committed to Michigan or you're a bitter sad bitch. I agree maybe his career if over now is hard to cement as an all time Michigan great. But to say because he never beat osu or win a B1G championship again is stupid. One guy can't do all that. If he was playing with any number of great Michigan QBs or a decent O line this team easily contends for a national championship. Jabrill Peppers is easily one of the best athletes and people I've ever had the privilege to watch play football for the good guys. At least in my 40 years of being a die hard supporter. I wish badly that he'll stay but know it's not likely. Otherwise I can't wait to see him in the NFL.
HAPPY NEW YEAR AND GO BLUE!!!

All time great? Im sorry if anyone is offended but to me he will go down as the biggest dissapointment. For as much hype as he had he didnt really do much except for the rutgers game.

What's wrong with calling him an all-time great? He bailed us out of some pretty tough spots. If it weren't for him we would have lost quite a few key games. And he was a defensive finalist for the Heisman. Doesn't happen that often. Did he kind of let up towards the end of the season? Sure. But I don't think anyone would mind if he came back for one more shot at o$u.

Because we don't throw around all time great terminology that belongs to woodson, Desmond, harmons, etc

Those who won championships and beat Ohio state.

Just my opinion but I classify all time greats by more than just being a good player.

Love the guy! He is special! I hope he comes back and shows us all he isn't done yet and gets that Big Ten title.

To be more specific, you can talk about his college or pro career, where he didn't win anything.

Or without using the Michael Jordan excuse, guys like Barkley, Malone, etc. There's more factors to an all-time great than a championship.

nice strawman. the argument is about MICHIGAN all time greats. we have a huge history of success. many former athletes at UofM may be considered "all time greats" at other programs, but don't reach the higher standards of our program history. I think many of us feel to be an all time great, you need to step up in big games, beat your rivals, and lead your team in the post season. Peppers was a phenomenal athlete but did not achieve any of these criteria. he will be remembered as a great athlete, great human being, phenomenal football knw ledge and skills, but not an "all time great"

Well, two games off the top of my head are the m$u game this year when they had momentum and were driving and he got deep penetration on multiple plays to stuff the run and kill their drive. If M$u had maybe 3 more minutes there's no doubt in my mind they would have won that game because we were done. 2nd half was all m$u. There was the Minnesota game last year when Rudock went out and we lost all momentum and if he doesn't make that open field tackle, Minnesota likely runs it into the endzone because he had nothing but grass in front of him. It didn't really do much for us in the big picture but had we lost to Minnesota this board would be up in flames more than it already was. I, for one, am not going to complain about him sitting out one game. One game that was pretty much irrelevant in my eyes. Playoff or bust.

He played in 27 games = 1 int, 1 kick off return. 5 offensive touchdowns; 3 this year and 2 last. 119 total tackles/solo and assists. Never played in a bowl, Never beat OSU! Those are average defensive stats. His best position was KR/PR. Barring the artificial Heisman hype his tenure here was average. That's not his fault though. I blame the coaches for not playing him at his natural position of RB. He was the playmaker we desperately needed on offense and the staff never utilized one of the best athletes that walked through this university.

I love Jabrill he is a great human being and a great athlete. He is a Michigan Man.

But to say he is a Michigan all time great I respectfully disagree.

I just feel he has unfinished business at Michigan. Get a big ten title... beat OSU....

If he comes back and does those and racks up some more stats I think he seals the "all time great" status.

Tough, tough season.

Any season that ends with Jabril Peppers crying can't really be called a successful season.

*Sigh*

We steel our spines and move on.

Dude played two years, had like 1 interception while the team never beat Ohio state, or won anything of note. His kick return game was an asset, but he was no Devin Hester, and the offensive package featuring him actually fizzled, not evolved. Also, as much as we want to forget, he did have a few disciplinary issues scattered here and there. I know his presence on this team probably got us 2-3 more wins than we should have had the last two seasons, if this is an example of an "all time great" the Rodriguez/Hoke darkness that had claimed our fan base really did a number in lowering our expectations and perspectives.

YES, MaizeCraze, you are a bad person and you should feel bad.  I could not believe the horrible things you posted and still call yourself a Michigfan fan.  The worst one I saw was when you mocked Lewis for getting targeted on the punt return catch.  You need to go, you're an embarassment.
