I agree with all your points, a win is what counts.
Running it over & over is not without risks of its own. PSU knowing exactly what's coming increases the chance of plays getting blown up, fumbles, and injuries and no one wants that.
The pass blocking was very suspect today and there are other options beside abandoning the forward pass and barely eeking out 1st downs or punting.
do people think punting isn't FULL of risks.
love u coach Moore but the 2nd half was dangerously conservative.
November 11th, 2023 at 10:07 PM ^
Running 30 times in a row was not the game plan. That was in-game decision making based on our inability to pass protect and ability to break 20+ yard runs, and it turned out to be the right in-game decision.
November 11th, 2023 at 10:10 PM ^
Did you not watch the turnstile that was our right tackle today?
November 11th, 2023 at 3:18 PM ^
Fuck you Petitti. Better start getting ready to hand Jim that trophy.
November 11th, 2023 at 3:29 PM ^
I know it's wrong, but the devil on my shoulder would kinda love for our guys to literally spit in his face after the B1GCCG trophy presentataion.
November 11th, 2023 at 3:34 PM ^
Nah. Just throw it in a trash can and walk off.
November 11th, 2023 at 3:51 PM ^
Jim gets the trophy then says "We're going to the SEC!"
November 11th, 2023 at 10:09 PM ^
By "it" do you mean petitti?
November 11th, 2023 at 3:19 PM ^
AMAZING!! You win anyway you can. The run game worked. BLAKE THE GREAT does it!
BET!! They covered. Against all of the odds.
Can't complain because it's a BIG MEEEECHIGAN WIN!
November 11th, 2023 at 3:19 PM ^
"these fucking guys" - unbleeped Sherrone
November 11th, 2023 at 3:20 PM ^
Well I wish the pass pro was good enough to trust.
But Michigan ran against a team that nobody runs against. And won a game on the road without the HC, with the OC/OL coach unexpectedly required to coach the whole team.
They played to avoid mistakes a bit, yes. And they punched that D in the mouth. And they won.
That’s all that matters.
November 11th, 2023 at 5:10 PM ^
“But Michigan ran against a team that nobody runs against.”
OSU’s running backs had 84 yds on 33 carries against PSU for 2.54 per carry.
Our two RBs had 197 yds on 36 carries for 5.47 per carry.
That played a big role in giving us a TOP advantage of almost 6-1/2 minutes. In a game on the road in that environment in the bizarre situation we were in, that was crucial.
November 11th, 2023 at 3:20 PM ^
Great win under the circumstances. But I'm officially worried about the running game, yes we ran 30 times in a row and won, but there were very few holes. I'm sure others will point out something I'm overlooking, and hopefully so as I'd love to the wrong. But again, great win.
November 11th, 2023 at 3:24 PM ^
PSU was the #2 rush D in the country and had only given up 545 yards this season. Michigan just ran for 231 yards against them.
November 11th, 2023 at 3:27 PM ^
You know what, that does actually make me feel a lot better.
November 11th, 2023 at 3:55 PM ^
We ran for approx 3 yards per when you remove two runs by Blake
November 11th, 2023 at 3:57 PM ^
OSU beat Michigan if you remove 5 plays....
November 11th, 2023 at 4:03 PM ^
Pretty sure those 2 runs count as well.
November 11th, 2023 at 4:04 PM ^
Why remove 2 runs?
November 11th, 2023 at 4:57 PM ^
Our only two scores in the second half came after a fumble on their side of the field (leading to, wow, a field goal) and a stupid fourth and six attempt by Franklin on their own 30. It's not like our running game won us this game.
Our defense won us the game, and good enough. But let's not pretend we were dominating them on the ground. We weren't.
November 11th, 2023 at 5:41 PM ^
Corum: 145 yards, 2 TDs, 5.56 average against the nation's No. 2 run defense even when it knew we wouldn't pass the ball. You're insane.
November 11th, 2023 at 10:15 PM ^
How about we remove any run over 2 yards. Then we would have less than OSU. Stop it. You are starting sound like Ryan Day.
November 11th, 2023 at 10:39 PM ^
PSU was the #2 rush D in the country and had only given up 545 yards over NINE GAMES…
Michigan just ran for 231 yards against them in ONE GAME.
November 11th, 2023 at 4:24 PM ^
And we did it when they knew we were going to run every play
November 11th, 2023 at 4:41 PM ^
And only 79 for the Bucknuts this year.
November 11th, 2023 at 3:33 PM ^
The run game concerns you? Dude OSU got like 1.9 yards a carry and gave up running altogether. We sat on PSU and didnt even NEED to pass. Read that again. We didnt NEED to pass. PSU couldnt do enough to make us throw the ball. That is exactly what an effective run game does.
You cant score and you cant make us pass. We win.
You guys are confusing entertainment with winning football.
November 11th, 2023 at 3:44 PM ^
Probably good we didn't need to. They would have to get Barnhart help or it was going to be sack-a-rama.
November 11th, 2023 at 4:15 PM ^
He was a mess huh? Yeesh.
November 11th, 2023 at 5:10 PM ^
Yeah, OSU saw it too. Assuming M can't get the restraining order, do you think we can suspend both Jim and Jay for Marland to get to three Harbaugh suspensions?
November 11th, 2023 at 5:26 PM ^
His UFR will be legendary.
November 11th, 2023 at 4:59 PM ^
But is it smart to keep them within a score for so long, unnecessarily? One safety slips, or one unfortunate bounce off a helmet (like last year), and they tie the score. I don't get why we decided that was so unlikely that we didn't need to score again.
November 11th, 2023 at 5:07 PM ^
Because One receiver slips, or one unfortunate bounce off a helmet and they tie the score.
They had 9 points pretty much the entire game. Its their job to make us pass. Either through stopping our run or scoring. They didnt do either until it was too late.
November 11th, 2023 at 5:47 PM ^
They did stop our running some, didn't you notice our punts?
1st down & sustained, scoring drive are better.
I certainly wouldn't say they shut our run game down, but we made it unnecessarily hard on ourselves.
Being conservative to the point of predictability has its own set of risks.
November 11th, 2023 at 6:09 PM ^
Im sorry I should say a combo of stopping our run and scoring was what they needed to do to force our hand to pass. You are gifted a 9 point win take it and move on.
November 11th, 2023 at 10:18 PM ^
Well not today. They threw so much every game until now. There is no reason to think that they can't do both against OSU. This performance is going to make OSU worry about both.
November 11th, 2023 at 5:16 PM ^
Because a bad interception is exactly how they would most easily get that single score. As long as we didn't give up negative plays, we were good.
November 11th, 2023 at 10:41 PM ^
Did you actually watch the game?
November 11th, 2023 at 10:53 PM ^
The risk associated with chasing your extra TD via the passing game was too high in that it would have exposed JJ to a ton of pressure, which could very easily have led to a scoop and score or a pick six. That is the complete explanation.
No one can prove you are wrong, and you probably aren't wrong. It's just that the way they did it was also not wrong and we won with the maximum possible control of the game throughout the entire second half.
November 11th, 2023 at 10:11 PM ^
I'm officially worried about the running game
I genuinely do not know how this could be someone's take after this game. This was the best and most explosive our running game has looked in at least a month, possibly all season, and it was on the road against possibly the best defense in the country.
This place continues to amaze me.
November 11th, 2023 at 3:20 PM ^
Who needs a passing game? LOLOLOL Bet
November 11th, 2023 at 3:20 PM ^
I don't even know what to say. Michigan ran into the teeth of the 2nd best run defense in the country and dropped 231 yards. This is the #1 team in the country.
November 11th, 2023 at 3:20 PM ^
IDK what kind of gameplan included running it every play. Mind boggling, hair pulling out madness.
November 11th, 2023 at 4:59 PM ^
Word.
November 11th, 2023 at 10:43 PM ^
“Win” there’s a word.
November 11th, 2023 at 5:28 PM ^
1989 says “hello.”
November 12th, 2023 at 6:40 AM ^
1989 had Elvis grbac attempting 20 passes/game to Chris Calloway, Greg McMurtry and Desmond Howard. This was not 1989 game plan. Who has ever seen NINE offensive lineman on the field repeatedly? Seems like Harbaugh designed some stuff specifically for psu, and sherrone was frozen and timid to make adjustments. Crazy there were no play action. They could have put in one or two tight ends to help the tackles and then taken some quick shots.
November 11th, 2023 at 10:30 PM ^
it wasn't a gameplan as much as it was an in-game adjustment to the fact UM couldn't pass block and Allar isn't ready this year...
November 11th, 2023 at 3:20 PM ^
Ryan Day is on the phone with his brother right now begging him to do more to get him out of this.
November 11th, 2023 at 3:21 PM ^
Sherrone freakin' Moore!!
November 11th, 2023 at 3:21 PM ^
Tough environment with the tackles struggling. A little conservative, but no turnovers and a win.
