This will be your thread for hot takes and snowflakes regarding the offense and offensive playcalling against PSU.

I though Shea really played well in the second half.   He was a baller.  I respect the fact he gave it all he had even if he missed a zone read hand off.  Easy to second guess plays but he showed grit, Charbonnet ran well against an excellent defense.  Shea did all he could to extend the last 4th down play and put the ball where it should have been caught.

Aside from the drops, I saw everything I wanted. Obviously the offense is coming around. Playcalls were better and logical.

Shea had the one bad interception, but I thought he played well otherwise.

Like I've said before, he wasn't the problem with this offense (though his oblique may have been).

I think next week's game will be similarly close, but we come out on top by 7 this time.

It's as if the first half was coming to an end and Shea kneelw this was it for him. If he doesn't score, then McCaffrey surely starts the second half.    And barring injury, Shea's college career was over.

Or. The alternative explanation was things just miraculously started clicking, just like in the ND game, after being down big.

Patterson was fantastic in the second half - the whole offense was. They played so hard, and showed so much heart.

Incredible game. Anything could have happened in OT, but damn, I wish we'd gotten that score.

Bell made some great plays in this game, but boy, that was a bad drop. Poor kid.

We looked like we had a plan and other than a couple drops mostly executed it well.  Shea played his best game of the year.  His pocket presence is what it is at this point, but he did better there too.

Sucks so much for Bell.  We would have won in OT.

Aside from the ref calls that stopped two first half drives, the offense played well.  I think we outgained them in yardage.  Shea threw the ball well and we ran on a tough run defense.  Feel bad for Bell, but we wouldn't have been that position if it weren't for him.

There are no moral victories, but there can be positive signs in a loss.

Looks like we have an offense now.

Shea looked great.

THIS TEAM FOUGHT THEIR ASSES OFF TONIGHT. They didn’t wilt when they got down.

This stings but I feel better about our chances in the remaining games.

And I think we ROLL the Spartans

I’m pissed about this game but hats off to Shea. I’ve been critical of him in the past but he came to play. Unfortunately his receivers did not. This is nowhere near the NFL receiving group that everyone was hyping up. I can’t even count how many dropped passes there were. At least 6 off the top of my head.

So...elephant in the room...dufuq happens to Shea tonight? They guy had looked like an abused puppy much of the year and he’s a tough son of a bitch making big time plays tonight.

certainly not perfect tonight but how does he turn it around like at psu, night game, white out etc

Looked good last week too. He might really have been fighting through injury, but his decision making looks worlds better. Had some smart throwaways when he almost got sacked and some great scramble decisions. Only bad play was the pick, but I definitely wasn't calling for Dylan this game

Despite the poor P.I. calls, we were in it at the end. I don't think there was an offensive holding call on either team all game. Which seems unusual. Just too big of a hole to dig out of.

Tough beat. Tough place to play at night. Tough game coming up next week.

Charbonnet, Nico, Shea were all gamers.

25 first downs and 37 min are fantastic, but 21 pts won’t cut it. It’s about time for Gattis to utilize post routes and deep go routes. Nico was screwed on the OPI - keep pushing the ball downfield.

The OL pass blocking gets an A+ today.

Charbonnet is a dude.

Our 3 “NFL Receivers” are not NFL receivers yet.

I have not seen a QB at Michigan play his heart out to this level since Gardner vs OSU in 2013.

We squandered an early second half drive in Penn St territory by running a horrible 3rd and 4 play.

Still not sold on Gattis, but we did go into an undefeated team and out gain them by 150 yards

We dominated time of possession and out rushed them and still lost. How much more evidence do we need that big plays through the passing game and scoring points is the way to win high level football games?

We win this game if the refs don’t overturn our biggest play on a BS offensive PI.

Offense played yer their best game of the year. Playing like that,we have a chance in all of our games, including OSU.

I’m not sure we have an NFL caliber WR on this team  No NFL speed  Penn St has an NFL caliber WR...

Gattis probably called his best game so far, still wasn’t good enough to win

How many Michigan offensive players are in the NFL right now?

How many Buckeyes?

They beat us every year because they recruit better faster athletes...they run right by our DBs every game.  Their RBs break a tackle and go to the end zone....

Game day coaching isn’t the issue

Meh...doubtful. There are maybe 5 teams that can use a WR like Hamler. He’s way too small to be relevant outside those quick-twitch teams. I’m not sure he has the upside of anTyreek Hill. Just because a guy smokes Michigan, doesn’t mean he’s got Sunday’s in his future.

If they played in the first half the way they did in the second half, that game is a W. Or at least goes to OT. Tale of two halves.

Either way, I gotta give major kudos to Shea. He had one god awful throw, and yes, it did lead to a Penn State TD. But he could’ve fully unraveled after that, we all would’ve expected it, and he didn’t. He stood tall and played ball like a fucking man. He gave his receivers every chance to be successful, and he’s earned the right to be this team’s starter.

Hope he gets a shot in the league when this is all said and done.

for all you guys that said Shea is garbage, Shea is trash... go fuck yourselves.

He's a good player, he's battled through issues this year, and he fought to the end.  He's not perfect but he's a fighter and he gave us a chance to win tonight.

way better....

i know they lost, but Michigan really impressed me... i was expecting the worse when they were down 21, but they showed a lot more heart than i've seen in a while, esp on the road.

proud of the team

This was probably the closest thing we saw to actual "Speed In Space". Unfortunately it took being down by 21 points before the lid was finally taken off the offense. It was clearly a more open offense that utilized it's weapons and they actually looked in rhythm. So what changed? Did Harbaugh finally quit intercepting play calls and let Gattis do what he said he wanted to do? The bigger question going forward is do we stay with what let us be successful or do we revert back to 1 yard and a cloud of dust.
