This will be the thread for hot takes regarding the overall coaching performance.

Really? They just won a game in the 4th quarter, on the road, against a team that’s better than their record, with a QB they don’t trust to make big plays. They did it on the final drive with about five handoffs and a well designed play that allowed their limited QB to complete a 5 yard pass that turned into a 40 some yard TD, and never forced him to have to make a tough throw. That might be a little bit of coaching right there.

You mean like when Frames on 4th and 2 with Dotson on bench injured and Clifford barely able to stand, with run game that’d been cruising including in short yardage, not only threw, but threw deep, to not Dotson? That Frames Janklin outcoached UM today? Get outta here with that weak shit.

PSU was in this game and led at midpoint in 4th because of heroic effort from Clifford, Dotson being fantastic, and their O and D fronts playing their hearts out (plus ref help with 1 holding call all game, on a tackled to ground they also tried to ignore, but still) —the team out there today that played tough & well enough to outperform their coaches’ flubs was PSU.

Jim Harbaugh's post game interview was great. Sometimes we get a glimpse of what he's really like when he doesn't have his media defenses up. Genuinely seems to love his players.

Personally, I love rooting for this team. So many great people in Michigan's program right now.

Eric All is the man tonight!

Gattis had some great calls today and McDonald's defense felt tough the whole way through. This team has some Dudes. They still haven't played their best football, but it's been cool to see them develop. Doesn't feel like the same team we saw against Washington-- and they still have a lot of upside left! We'll see if they can get it all to click in a couple weeks. Getting closer!

Go blue!

Collectively, it was a great effort. Gattis called good plays. Defense was able to adjust. Harbaugh got a great reversal on that punt call that put Penn State on the 1 yd line.

Congrats to Harbaugh for the hard fought win. (I know, that's what he's paid to do)

I'll repeat it until it happens. We need more Ohio players.   All and Moore were key today.  Good, heady play, what the program used to have.  Need to get more Ohio players, who know the importance of the Game and have to win it.

It’s a win so I’ll take it. But it’s obvious that we continue to do the same stuff we always do regardless of the competition. They’ll try and line up against OSU and man ball it which won’t work. Maryland has a competent offense so we’ll see how that goes.

Just because we beat a crappy team on the road doesn’t mean we can’t criticize the same stuff that won’t get us over that hump.

Well, there you go saying what many people say after Michigan wins against a quality opponent on the road.

"Michigan won against a bad or crappy team."

PSU was not a crappy team.

If Michigan would've lost today, many people would've been talking about how Harbaugh still can't win against a good team on the road in a tough environment.

It's joked about, but it's often true that many people change the narrative when Michigan wins these games.

bitching about stuff after a big road win doesn’t make you “honest,” or “realistic,” it just makes you a miserable sonofabitch that annoys the shit out of every single person that can hear a single word of your tired-assed schtick. go the fuck away, and don’t come back.  nobody wants you here.

There were some headscratching calls no doubt (the fourth and two off-tackle run), and Cade missed a couple throws (the open slant that made Hassan go to a knee), but all around this was a solid performance in a difficult spot.

The conditions seemed to dictate the offense in this game. It was cold and windy (with light snow flurries at the outset) and the field was not in good shape. Guys on both teams were slipping all over the place. Not sure how an offense puts up a lot of points against a good defense in that environment.

It was a great win. Some of the play calling was really good and they actually made some nice second half adjustments. I’m still frustrated with the 3rd or 4th and 1 or 2 play calling. The whole world knows they’re going up the gut but they insist on doing it anyway.

I thought the coaching was good.  Every time PSU diagnosed something we came back with something different that caught them off guard.  Smart Xs and Os.

At times I thought they were calling plays too conservatively, but they got scores and stops when they needed them. In the end, the team showed confidence.

Kudos to the coaches.

Would like to see more under center sneaks on short yardage, and maybe a bootleg.  The wind must have been a stronger factor than it seemed, as neither team took many shots downfield, though I get that would require some pass-blocking from PSU.  I didn't like how Dotson carried them on their TD drive--try something different.  That said, he's a great player, and Michigan made enough plays to win in a tough environment.

We’ve won two games that 99% of us penciled as Ls before the year. 9-1 and no room for letdown next week.

In the mix in late November. All you can ask for.

Defense mostly seemed prepared to handle what PSU was putting out there. Broke Clifford and contained Dotson. Might have been helped by the wind a bit making the deep ball a tough ask. But also unfortunate not to recover another fumble or two.

Offense still too stale and disconnected, at least for the first half. Our O-Line is okay, but loading up the box and creating more and more blocks that must be won definitively is stupid. Haskins is a beast once you deliver him to the LB level - spreading the field out makes that much easier. But you can't expect him to overpower 3 DLs on every play.

reading through this thread, i literally can't believe how insufferable our fan base can be.  we win a big game, on the road, against a very good team that nearly beat our own death-star nemesis, and the number of negative nannies on here is unbelievable.   no wonder other teams hate us, we apparently eat our own.  yeesh.

big game in november when our destiny is still pretty much in our hands. 100K+ 'white out' PSU fans in the stadium.  and we fought back from being down twice, including scoring the go-ahead with 3:29 left.  and PSU does not 'suck', look at their D, in particular and the write ups on the front page.  also, did you see what they did to ohio last week, in columbus?

i get it, you were stressed during the game and built up a bunch of negative emotions you need to discharge.  suggest you step away from the key board and go for a walk.  seriously.

I agree. Thats two quality road wins this season. We didn't see that in previous seasons under Harbaugh. People will talk about Wisc's record after we played them, but they've proven to be a good team. Penn State happens to be the good Big Ten East team who's out of the mix now. It was going to happen to someone. Meanwhile, here we are at 9-1 with a shot at the conference championship. So as someone who has been critical of Harbaugh a lot of the time, I have to give him credit today.

Actually, I believe Nebraska should be included in "a quality road win"...making it three.

However, given the history in play here-including that mind-numbing loss in EL this year, the major credit for the newfound resiliency we have seen has to go to the person or persons among the new hires. From the outside looking in, the identity of these positive forces are impossible to identify.

Every week it's something. Last week those people complained that we can't win games with FG's. So we score three touchdowns this week for the win on the road. Still complaining. It's a few bitter, unhappy people who come here after a win with the purpose of bringing everyone else down. If that wasn't their MO, they wouldn't come here. They get berated and downvoted and seem to relish it.

I appreciate 9-1, the fact that this is fun group of of players to watch, and that Harbaugh and the refreshed staff has done a pretty good job.  I also enjoyed the come from behind win today.

But that does not change the simple fact that a very different offensive mindset and game plan will be need against OSU.

I guess I do not understand why pointing out certain obvious issue with offensive play calls, approach, etc. means (1) that one did not enjoy the win, or (2) should be considered some sort of norm violation in a post-game thread.

Seems that many (not Blue in St Lou) think post game threads must be free of...any type of concern over...things that will be concerning against OSU.  If someone critiques anything after a big win, more than a few respond with insults and flaming.

Which post is more out of place?  The 'great win but offense was a bit jankey'?  Or, 'STFO you are a dick just enjoy the win you freakin' loser'?

Why is a different offensive gameplan needed to beat OSU? Because they scored less than us against Nebraska last week? Because they scored a whopping 33 points against PSU 2 weeks ago and won by 9? It seems to me the only good defenses OSU has played, they have struggled against, so tell me why we can’t have this same gameplan and pull out a victory?
