Paul Finebaum is at it again......

On Golic and Wingo this morning, Paul Finebaum provided the latest quote of our Coach:

" I could pick up the yellow pages of college coaches right now, close my eyes and pick a better coach than Jim Harbaugh.”

I am honestly sick and tired of this guy. He offers nothing of value when discussing college football other than to tell us all how great Nick Saban is. I may be in the minority here with that opinion, but thought I would share this.

My thoughts on his quote are this, if Harbaugh is so bad at his job why do we constantly here his name in discussion for NFL jobs? Or is it that he didn't like being called "Pete"?

I don't know if you could pick up the yellow pages and find a coach "better" than Jim Harbaugh...but you could absolutely pick up the yellow pages and find half a dozen coaches you could pay half of what Harbs is getting paid and produce incredibly similar results.

Are you sure?

"Since Harbaugh arrived, the Michigan football program’s operating revenue has grown from about $97.1 million during his first in 2015-16 to nearly $125 million in 2017-18, the latest fiscal year reported. For comparison, operating revenue for football in 2007-08 — the final year under Lloyd Carr — was just $57.4 million. That number dipped some in the first year under Rich Rodriguez, but then steadily rose nearly every year after, to about $88.2 million in 2014-15, the final season under Hoke. ...

“Those who think Michigan ought to be competing for national championships find the lack of playoff appearances distressing, which makes them think Michigan is paying (Harbaugh) to get to the playoff,” said Rodney Fort, a sports management professor at Michigan.

'I think nothing could be further from the truth. They’re paying him to help generate as much revenue as could possibly be generated at the University of Michigan football program. And it would be difficult for me to think of anybody who could do it any better than he.' "

"This is pretty simple to understand, really."

In which case you'd know that the corporate world is filled with CEOs who get paid huge sums of money who nonetheless fail miserably at improving their company's bottom line.

David Brandon became the chief executive officer of Domino's Pizza in March 1999.

Brandon led Domino's to its initial public offering in 2004 at $14 per share. By December 31, 2009, shortly before Brandon left for the University of Michigan, Domino's stock price had fallen to $8.38, a decline of 40%. His total compensation for 2008 was $3.228 million in 2008.

David Brandon became CEO of Toys "R" Us on June 2, 2015. Brandon emphasized the necessity of improving the company's performance: "The focus now is on execution, performance and growth. … The company needs to put itself in a position where it can compete globally."

On September 19, 2017, Toys "R" Us filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

On May 14, 2018, Brandon resigned as CEO of Toys "R" Us.

He earned $11.25 million in compensation with the company in 2017.

Happy to take the "money angle" away.  You could find around a half dozen coaches in the B10, that if hired by Michigan, could have produced a very near equivalent as Harbaugh has.

Harbaugh doesn't have any "milestone win".  He has had very poor Bowl showings.  Can't beat a team ranked in the top 10.  Struggles mightily on the road.  What Harbaugh has done, is not have really any horrible losses.  He tends to beat the teams he should, and lose to teams of equal or better talent.

My point is simply this....there are plenty of coaches that could duplicate Harbaugh's B to B- results thus far.  Franklin, Ferentz, Fitzgerald, Chryst could all have been Michigan's coach during the same tenure as Harbaugh and done just as good as JH has done.

Maybe you could find a dozen out of hundreds but you would also be damaging the program with another coaching change and half of that dozen aren't interested in coming to Michigan. And there's no guarantee that the AD is going to hit on the next coach. Lots of examples of guys who seemed like great hires ended up being much less capable than Harbaugh's been.

And if you change coaches and get the same results just to save the AD some money on a coaching salary, I'm not sure why any fan would find that to be more satisfying.

Well, we hired Rich Rod and Brady Hoke and they did not have incredibly similar results.  Michigan's fans sort of suck.  While Harbaugh hasn't won the big games yet, and 8-5 isn't acceptable, 10-3 is respectable.  If Gattis' offense has turned the corner, things will be looking up.  Can't wait for Harbaugh to shut everyone's mouths.   Go root for OSU or Alabama.

10-3 is a respectable floor, not ceiling. Brady Hoke was a terrible coach - a terrible coach who had a higher ceiling than what Harbaugh has been able to do so far.

If Harbaugh has 10 years here he will definitely have a better single season than Hoke. However, an elite coach wins that Penn State game. Franklin SUCKS. That game was made for Harbaugh to break the narrative, yet he couldn't do it. That says something.

Pete can't be more than 5'6, is bald as shit, and if his ears get any bigger he'll fly away like Dumbo the Elephant...not to mention he's old and undoubtedly getting cranky in his advanced age. He gets a paycheck to shit on people and provide hot takes.

So my question to you, OP is: why are you giving this little "man" attention? Just stop. He's a hack, much like other 'notable' ESPN "personalities":

-Max Kellerman

-Stephen A Smith

-Skip Bayless

Stop paying attention to him, and better yet, stop telling others to pay attention to him.

He's just stirring the pot for views and clicks.  His 'analysis' is not substantive in any way and he's just there to get you riled up.
