OT - Your Commitment on Signing Day (hypothetical)

Submitted by jb5O4 on
If you were good enough to get offers from any D-1 football program, which one would you choose (Michigan is not an option) and why. I think I would choose Stanford. It seems like an environment which does not put too much pressure on the kids to win. You still get to play in big games in big venues (Rose Bowl, LA Coliseum, Notre Dame). I could go for some of that west coast weather. Honorable mention: UCLA, Washington, Boston College

Either the Naval Academy or the Air Force Academy. I'm pretty sure graduating one of those schools would have me prepared for a lifetime of success. I certainly enjoyed my time at Michigan and Indiana, and feel I got a great education. But given the chance to do it all over again I would have attended that Senator dinner and gone to the academy.

I had the choice to play at Akron, Toledo, Indiana, Bowling Green, and Kentucky and didn't choose to play. But looking back I probably would've chose Kentucky.

Probably either USC or Texas. Great weather, good schools, huge fanbases, consistent NT contenders. EDIT: In a surprise decommitment, I just got ZOOKED! to Illinois.

My point in taking Michigan off the table is that most people on the board went to Michigan. So its kind of a fun way to discuss what people think about other schools. In a perfect hypothetical world I would invent a time machine, go back to the mid 90s, be a badass football player and play along with Charles Woodson as his safety.

Seriously though, who knows where you'd end up? Too many factors involved that most of us have no concept of. I would think that Florida, California, and UCLA would be high on my list. Warm weather schools with solid academics. I love Florida's campus. The atmosphere at the swamp on game day is pretty amazing too. UNC and Clemson could also be up there. Edit: For the record, these would all fall well behind Michigan.

for my hypothetical school of choice: High chance of playing for national title during 4-5 years Big time schedule/Big time games Attractive female student body Academics Warm weather Some powerful alumni that could open some doors for me post-football Schools in the following order: 1) Texas 2a) USC 2b) Florida

1.) Georgia - awesome fan base, great facilities, Athens is a great college town 2.) Tennessee - minus Lane Kiffin, Knoxville is awesome 3.) Texas A&M - tradition, 12th man, College Station 4.) Clemson 5.) Auburn - War Eagle I see a theme? And.....I chose UGA.

I would take as many trips to Tennessee I would fly out to Texas, USC and Florida I would take visits to night games at LSU, Miami, Georgia Piss on Notre Dame, and the dome Visit Oregon to see what jerseys they wear Come back in time for the Michigan vs. Ohio State game... Make my annoucement after the game that I will be attending Michigan in the fall. Hypothetically!! It's all about the "U"....seems pretty fun, might end up in jail though.

I would love to commit to Michigan, but their system doesn't fit me. I play the lanky-Jewish-guy offense. Besides, they had Cone (not a Jew AFAIK, but has the name), and look at how much playing time he got. Sorry Coach Rod. That said, I choose South Carolina. I like their QB-a-week offense

If not Michigan, UNC. Up and coming program that plays a fun style of football, a student body that would get over any performance hiccups once basketball season rolls around, 60% female, good social scene, great academics including my area of study (business), get to play a wide variety of teams and schemes, decent weather, and I still get to wear blue.

USC because they pay the most. If I could choose then any school my visits would be Miami of the 80's, Mt Union , Alcorn State McNair days, Oklahoma State T Thomas/ B Sanders days, and Washington from the Don James era.

I would be such a dick, attention whore recruit. I'd milk the usage of hostesses, $, commit-decommit everywhere and such, flirt with all the coaches. confuse fanbases and just make a mockery of it all. but i'd go to Texas/Penn State/USC/Stanford/Washington/Oregon. The Pac-10 has great schools and laid back football atmosphere. Stanford has great academics and campus, Washington has the most beautiful campus i've ever seen, Penn State with that fanbase, JoePa and Texas because Austin is awesome. I pick Washington

Colorado. Hands down. Especially if I was a blue chip and had the possibility of being part of a huge turn-around for the program. Love everything about that school.

So am I not allowed to pick UVA also? Somewhere northern or northern-ish so I don't have to go through fall camp in 95 degree weather. Somewhere not in the Big Ten or ACC so I don't have to suddenly be a rival of my favorite schools. Somewhere in the BCS. Somewhere with a really nice campus, academics that don't totally suck, and football tradition that doesn't totally suck. Somewhere with good-looking uniforms. And somewhere that doesn't play football in a dome. I think that about narrows it down to Colorado, Washington, or Nebraska. Think I'd go with U-Dub.

If I were a rb or a wr I would go to Miami; Qb I would go to Pitt or Tenn; anything on D I would go to Michigan. These teams are just a couple of players away from being great. I could be that guy.

Cal, Stanford, Virginia. I don't think my 5'11" very white frame has a chance at the NFL, so I'll just take my top degree and go out to the working world, thanks.

I'd probably choose a PAC-Ten school, maybe U-Dub, Stanford, Cal, or Oregon. Oregon would be the final choice, the uniforms have grown on me and their facilities are incredible. Autzen is agreat stadium, and I'd love sticking it to USC. The only problem would be facing M in the Rose Bowl... maybe pull a Bobby Boucher and give the ball to the other team?

Hypothetical elite athlete me is presumably still me in all other departments, so keep me away from the beer until after draft day. Also, there are a lot of hot Mormons, and some of them stray.

Maybe I'm spoiled, but the weather in Palo Alto isn't all that great. Better than MI most of the year, but if you're going to pick a school for the weather, there are a ton better than NorCal.

ACC: Florida State Big 12: Texas Big East: UConn? Big Ten: Penn State MAC: Western Michigan Pac-10: USC Overall I'd go with Texas. Tradition and a fun college town.

Could you imagine being a D-1 recruit and not getting the offer you want, to Michigan of course??? Talk about life givin' you the ol' rochambeau... With that being said, I'd probably still want to be a Big Ten athlete, or at least stay in the general vicinity of the Midwest and/or Northeast. After giving it some long hard thought, I'd probably settle on Boston College, Virginia, or make my family happy and be homer for PSU. And probably regret it for the rest of my life.
