OT: Yearly Username Roll Call

Submitted by Lakeyale13 on August 23rd, 2021 at 9:54 PM

Loved reading about people’s avatars and would equally love to hear about why you chose your “Username”.

Lake Yale is the lake we lived on in Central FL, after moving there from San Diego.   “13” is the number of my all time favorite baseball player, Lance Parrish. Was living in Milford, MI during the 84 season and lost my mind as a 3rd grader. Bless You Boys!!!

I was sitting in a Fort Worth college dive bar after a long week. Married, so eyeball liberty only. Passed the time reading mgoblog and found something I wished to post about. Had to create an account and user name. Fuuuck I am so tired of thinking. Used the first thing that popped to mind:

If You Ain’t Ordnance You Ain’t Shit

Shakespeare it is not.

Nervous Bird

I was a longtime lurker, and when I decided to officially join it was around the time Speight told the hilarious story about Harbaugh telling him not to eat chicken because it's a nervous bird.

Since I'm a fan of Harbaugh and his many eccentricities, I adopted the moniker in his honor.

Simple, best movie ever, at the best part of the movie.

Had another name for about 10 years (and never posted) and signed up with a user name that was basically my name so switched cause, ya know, big brother

A play on words to honor a baseball great. I used this nom de guerre to comment on Boers and Bernsein's "Who You Crappin'?" segment on The Score when living near Chicago. It got a big laugh from the hosts, after which Dan Bernstein said, "I'm surprised nobody had thought of that by now."

Also had a connection with a guy that worked the basement of the Blue Front.  They stored all the kegs down there and had a conveyor belt to bring them up to street level on the side of the store where they would be loaded into the back of the BF logo'd van (wish I had a picture of that thing), and he would then deliver them to fraternity parties.  There was little to no inventory control, so a free keg may or may not have ended up in our apartment from time to time.  Good times.

It was my michigan unique name, chosen by a computer during my orientation. I still use it all over the damn place. It's a combination of first and last names. I did used to hunt in Michigan but that's not where the name comes from.

My username stems from my Dad's love of Bob Ufer and the Saturdays we'd spend driving around with the entire family and listening to him on the radio. I specifically remember driving through the Irish Hills on a Saturday and listening to the Michigan-South Carolina game in 1980 and remembering his voice coming through the radio.

Side note: I went to the All-Star game at Comerica Park a while back and sat with Ali Haji-Shiekh and a mutual friend. We talked Ufer, football, how much his leg was sore from the 70-21 game against Illinois; and a bunch of other stuff. I think I scared him with the stats I knew about his career. He let me try on his Super Bowl ring he won with the Redskins. You'll never meet a nicer guy.

Mr Miggle

The name and image are of a minor character from the old Pogo comic strip. Mr Miggle ran a general store with amusing (and not very appealing) specials. I thought of him when I started my own business and used the name on my Poker Stars account first.

Njia

August 24th, 2021 at 8:59 AM ^

About 20 years ago, I worked for a publicly-traded company that was later acquired by Oracle. When I left, I created a screen name on Yahoo! Finance, "nowjustanotherinvestor" to follow the company's stock. Later, I abbreviated it to "Njia," but only after creating it did I realize that I'd transposed the "i" and "a." The funny thing is that there's not a single initial in my name with any of those letters, although my wife's name includes one of them. But, at four characters, it's easy to remember so I've used it when I want to preserve some level of anonymity in online forums.

Number 7

Nothing against Chad Henne, but #7 is the my first sports hero, Rick Leach.  As a 6-year old, it made perfect sense that #7's job was to put points on the board, 7 at a time, as he did during one of the first games I ever went to, a 70-14 pasting of Navy on September 25, 1976.
