OT: Worst Pro Sports City in America (?)

Submitted by evenyoubrutus on

With the Cavaliers bringing home the first title to Cleveland, Ohio since the Declaration of Independence  the Civil War  Prohibition  WWII  John Williams composed anything worthwhile Lyndon Johnson was President, it seems reasonable to discuss what the worst sports city is in America.  While the Lions are major suckage, at least there are three other teams in Detroit that have won titles in (most of) our lifetimes.

In my opinion it is still Cleveland, but who else should be up for consideration?

Atlanta is the best melting pot for college football in America.  CFB Hall of Fame, Peach Bowl (CFB semifinal), Chick Fil A kickoff game, ACC presence, SEC championship, huge B1G representation (see B1G Fest/B1G picnic). Atlanta is magic on a fall Saturday and no other city embraces ALL of college footballl the way Atlanta does.

Philly. The eagles suck. The Phillies are turrible (although there was a good couple of years there), the 76ers are awful, and the flyers are perpetually runners up in the early rounds of the playoffs. Plus the philly fans are the worst fans around. They intentionally throw up on people. Not all the time, but more than zero is hard to recover from as a fan base.

Definitely Milwaukee. Haven't won a major title in 44 years and doesn't look like they will anytime soon. Yet, the Brewers and Bucks get new arenas? Wtf. That and their fans are the worst.

of the teams, not of fan support. If we are going off long term failures, you have to go with some combination of Minneapolis, Atlanta, or DC. If you are talking about right here today, it is for sure Philadelphia. The Sixers and Phillies are horrific while the Eagles are bad. The Flyers are decent at least.

In terms of team performance Houston was pretty dire while I was there. The successful AHL team reloacted, the Texans imploded, the Astros were/are mired in perpetual suck, and the whole Howard/Harden thing hasn't quite worked out for the Rockets.

Gotta say, apart from the Texans fans baying for blood (anyone's) during 2013, all of the sporting events I went to were pretty fun. Went to several Astros games in Tiger garb and the Astros fans surrounding me were making fun of their own team the whole time.

The Oilers left, the Rockets haven't been a consistent winner since the early 90s, the Texans are still trying not to look like an expansion franchise (even though they came into the league in 2002) and the Astros have 6 division titles since 1980, one trip to the WS and were swept by the White Sox, and they play in a "juice box" for god's sake!

Bad city if the teams aren't top contenders. Dolphins don't sell out and the newish baseball stadium is like a graveyard ( with a hideous green wall)

Since the Columbus Crew, and Blue Jackets are professional sports teams. I would have to say by default that the worst professional sports city in America is Columbus. If East Lansing had a professional team though they would be the absolute clear choice.

Las Vegas.  If they get an NHL team the local support will drop off after a losing season or two.  They'll end up being supported by visitors to LV who would rather be gambling or watching Wayne Newton but could only get hockey tickets.

It has got to be Buffalo because that town just flat out sucks anyway. Cleveland pulls in at second but Buffalo is just the sphincter of America.

If there isn't a minimum number of sports teams in the city for it to qualify, then I think it's Jacksonville hands down. The fan support is not there and the team have never made it to an AFC Championship game, let alone a super bowl. While they are relatively new, they've had 20 years in the league and the two other teams that came into the league with them have either won or been to a Super Bowl. (Tampa and Carolina)

Milwaukee

the bucks suck, and if it was not for tailgaiting, the brewers would have left town ages ago, and the packers fans in Milwaukee are assholes compared to anywhere else in the state. As for hockey they built an arena for the purpose of hockey and when the time came, they chickened out.

I live in this area, and these among the stupidest people when it comes to sports.

...are not measured by their teams, but by their fans. Cleveland has good fans for lousy lousy teams. They're not the best, but they're defomitely not the worst. That would be Atlanta, or possibly LA.
