Most college football fans see right through that dude.  I wonder why media execs keep propping him up.  It’s obvious he’s trying to start a narrative for when oHio goes down this weekend and in late November.

everyone in the NFL thinks he’s a clown show after he was exposed.  Even the kicker punked his ass.

When you can't brag about beating Michigan on the field, you gotta deflect to the 2 years where Michigan had a weak OOC schedule right before it becomes a gauntlet for the foreseeable future

You are aware, along with everyone else, that non-conference games are scheduled many years in advance, right? Please don't tell me you didn't know that.

After those two seasons? Home & home with:

  • VaTech 2014-15
  • Oklahoma 2016-17
  • TCU 2018-19, but TCU weaseled out of the 2019 game and settled for a 2018 one-off at the "neutral" site of Jerry World
  • Oregon 2020-21 (2020 didn't happen, obvs)
  • ND 2022-23
  • and so on

Besides, the home-&-home with Cal was scheduled when Tedford was there and Cal was the primary challenger to USC at that time.

Please...that's such a weak take, but just pleasing enough to others to get upvoted.

Well your experience is not well-informed. You craft an absurd sounding logical argument in public why I am something truly offensive (pick the ugliest things you cannot write on the internet) and try to sell that to others to humiliate me or put me or my reputation at risk - you might receive a response that is more emotional than your claims.

Doesn't make anything you say about me true. That's not how it works.

Michigan had a home and away with UCLA on the schedule for '22-'23 for several years.  Then when the MSU game home-away rotation got reversed, Michigan was looking at six home games in 2022 and eight in 2023.  It needed 7 home games per year to make the financing right (including that of all the venders, etc).  UCLA couldn't flip the home-away rotation because that would have left them with only six home games in 2022.  So, the series was reluctantly cancelled.

One of the consequences of the long timeline in OOC schedules is that the other P5 teams are already locked into their schedules, so Michigan had to go the G5 route for those two years.

Urban knows all this, of course, but he'd rather be a dishonest fuckwad than an honest commentator.

Chuck, Michigan's OOC schedule this year blows.  Everyone knows it.  It has been called out multiple times by Brian and many posters.

However, there are some extenuating circumstances (Notre Dame canceling the series against M, the UCLA cancellation referenced above.)  The problem this Board has is that Urban Meyer is a turd human being, he didn't do his homework, and then Urbs taking issue with M's OOC schedule ... well, it's going to generate a response.

{Edited post by removing the "Look" before Chuck.  It gave a sarcastic tone that was never intended.}

Look UM, my initial insertion to this discussion had nothing to do with criticizing Michigan's schedule; I was responding to baseless criticism of OSU's scheduling.

When OSU & Oklahoma had their home & home series, the winner of each game went to the CFP and the loser did not. In either year, had the losing team won that game, they would have gone to the CFP. They in effect scheduled a CFP quarterfinal game in September, with the losing failing to advance to the semifinals.

Both programs put their CFP hopes at risk by playing a high-profiled non-conference game. That's something a program like Georgia has been unwilling to do.

That's a weak argument with which to attack Urban, really. And not how effective arguments work.

You cannot cry out against the pot for calling the kettle black as a deflection if indeed the kettle is black. That's a complete fallacy.

You can despise Urban Meyer for his character as a person and acknowledge that a point he may make is valid.

If he were to say hitting women is bad - he's right. Doesn't mean he's not a hypocrite for supporting ol' What's-His-Face. Both are true. It does not invalidate M's non-conference schedules some years.

This year's non-conference schedule was so boring I was actually looking forward to the day there is a Super League and Michigan doesn't get to waste a month playing the Savannah Bananas in Kickball.

Normally I just miss the 90's..

Wait, have either ND or OSU played anyone this year?

This “epic tilt” has all the earmarks of a pillow fight where the winner is lauded until they’re exposed by some upset a game or two later and blame it on the exertion/injuries sustained in said pillow fight.

Then said team whines about being penalized for playing a “tough” OOC schedule. Sort of the equivalent of an SEC team whining about not making the playoffs because the ESSSS EEEEH CEEEE is so tough those losses shouldn’t count.

Thanks for reminding everyone of the real story.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but I believe Michigan made it a policy to NOT schedule any FCS teams moving forward.  There was a 4 year stretch there about 15 years ago where we played 3 FCS teams - 2 of which are now FBS. None have been scheduled since.   A certain school with the initials - aOSU, played a FCS school this year.

There was a Leaders & Best & Champions of the West school way back in the day that graciously gave a little start up a shot to play them annually.  They weren't yet D-I.  That same aOSU school.

And when we talk about scheduling we have to always give major props to the SEC.  EVERY SEC school is playing a FCS team this year and HALF of the SEC is playing a tune-upper in their 2nd to last game.  As per usual.

Thank you for proving the point that Urban Meyer is just drawing stupid attention to something that is irrelevant. Are you insinuating that your schedule was good those two years or are you agreeing with Urban’s stupid take that even you admitted is out of the control of the team or coaches with their schedule being set years in advance. You have some good takes on this board BC but in the end, you are still a Buckeye homer.

“Look at the team up in Ann Arbor (Michigan). You shouldn’t be allowed to play that schedule."

i mean, stupid referencing aside... do we really disagree with this?

you're missing the point... at least they're playing one real team in the non-con. two tomato cans + one real team >>> three tomato cans.

now to clarify, i'm absolutely not defending what appears to be preemptive excuse making or any way arguing that urban is not a massive douche. i just wish our non-con schedule didn't suck so much. i'd love to see one tomato can, one plausibly competitive team, and one power 5 team.

The last time Michigan won the National Championship, they played Colorado, Baylor, and Notre Dame.  Baylor wasn't very good, and hadn't ever really been very good, but Colorado was a top-10 team and Notre Dame was expected to be a top-10 team when they were scheduled.

If the team is good enough to win the championship, they're good enough to beat all comers.

Exactly, 3 BCS then or P5 opponents two of them entered the season ranked as Colorado came in ranked #8 and ND came in ranked #11 and still had a Baylor team that wasn't good but still.  Michigan didn't get any reward at all for that and never did.  In fact they tried to rank Nebraska's schedule as harder than Michigan's that year.

By season's end Michigan had played 7 ranked teams at the time the game was played and ND was not one of them after going from #11 to unranked after losing to Purdue the week before.

Nebraska played Washington #2 when the game played finished top 20, Akron and UCF, with only Washington, Kstate, A&M and Tennesee ranked when they played for the entire schedule.  I credit Nebraska's scheduling washington but the other two in comparison to Michigan was a joke for it to be a narrative of strength of schedule to favor Nebraska that year.

Overall Michigan's schedule was much more difficult.  But Michigan never got any love for difficult schedules!

Well to be frank, there's no real strategic advantage (at least for this final year) to playing highly-rated OOC opponents anymore in terms of rankings and maintaining playoff chances.

And even then it's not like Michigan hasn't scheduled tough OOC opponents recently. Sure, the past two years have been snoozers, but we had a home-and-home scheduled in 2020 and 2021 against Washington (the 2020 matchup obviously didn't happen, and the 2021 Washington team ended up being crap), a home-and-home against ND in 2018 and 2019, and have future OOC matchups scheduled against Texas in 24' and OU in 25'.

What I'm getting at is picking on Michigan's strength of schedule is a pretty dumb thing to try and call out because it's not like Michigan is regularly scheduling only snoozers in OOC either.

Agreed that singling out Michigan is dumb (but hey, when you're sitting on top the conference, folks gonna take their shots). This is not unique to Michigan. And I get that there's not really an advantage to scheduling good non-con games... but as a fan that sucks. I want to watch at least a few entertaining games before November.

You are spot on.  Until this weekend we were playing teams that are creampuffs.  That won't be the case next year. I'd rather play top teams and lose a game or two along the way in place of the games we have played the last three weeks. but it has to be that way for everybody.

The expanded playoffs next year will allow for the tougher competition we will surely face.  If it were me, I'd love to see four divisions in the B1G with a playoff system like the NFL and then have the winner of the conference play other conference winners.  We need a few more teams to make it work or a less.

Now we are going to dictate out of conference?  SEC does it for years and it’s not an issue UM does it twice trying to clean up the schedule and it’s an issue? I feel like even if we win the whole thing this year there will still be “yeah but..” types in full force.  Tired of this crap.
