THIS.

Mike Babcock is not a bad coach. I would even venture so far as to say that he is a good coach. But you can also argue that his teams have rarely outperformed their talent level, with his Anaheim Duck team that made a Cup run being an exception to this rule.  Hockey is also very random, so take that FWIW, but he has never really had a dynasty level run of championships.

Should the Red Wings actually bring him home? I am on the fence but leaning towards no. Everything they should do should be about moving forward.

I'm not sure. I question his handling of young players and roster management (BENCH ERICSSON FOR THE LOVE OF GOD). Also I don't know if it's been long enough since he was here to make it a completely fresh start.

But at the same time, his success as coach is unmistakable. He coached the Wings to playoffs in years they had no business making it there. Toronto has gone now 3 years in a row...it had been ONCE since 2004 prior to his arrival.

Babs has nothing to prove regarding legacy.  He's won every significant championship across the entire sport.  Junior, Worlds, the Cup, Olympic gold.  Across multiple teams, eras, and players.

This firing is more about how delusional the Leafs organization is and all their money being tied up in 4 players.

Could also be that he's more of a quenneville / Mike Keenan coach now that he needs a veteran team to buy into his style. Leafs are talented, but still VERY young in terms of his star talent.

Actually it seems he is an old school hard nosed coach and the younger players don’t really care for that.  Knowing that and seeing how this team has quit the past few weeks, this isn’t that surprising.  I think his coaching style might be passed by in the nhl.

He usually underachieves with loaded teams and overachieves with mediocre teams. He shouldn't be out of work long.
