OT(?): Todd Monken (Georgia OC) Interviewed with Baltimore

Here's a link to the report/rumor that Baltimore is at least scoping the guy out.

I wouldn't be surprised, for example, if John talks to Jim and Jim mentions that he's impressed with Monken's work. Also, Baltimore has plenty of its own coach scouting going on, I'm sure.

But the spicier version is that Jim wants to weaken Georgia by clearing out his OC/walk-on-QB- kingmaker. I mean, maybe there's a chance? Probably not.

Anyone else hear rumblings we might be hiring Partridge as an analyst...which would have to be a big boost for Davison Igbinosun. Elite portal CB just visited UCLA and then he's visiting OSU and then us. I’m not sure how many other visits he plans to take (Tennessee was a finalist in his initial decision and have shown interest).

I would think that CP would want a coaching job somewhere rather than an analyst position.

As an analyst, his contact with players is supposed to be minimal, at most, and given the recent scrutiny, I would doubt that U-M would veer of course. So that alone would likely not be a draw for the Ole Miss transfer DB.

I'm sure he would too, but its not uncommon for good coaches to take an analyst gig for a year while waiting for the right coaching opportunity to open up. It seems like he's still on good terms with Harbaugh and Michigan, so I could see him being willing to take an analyst role for a year on a potential National Championship contender.

I'm not as sold on the guy as some others seem to be - he seems to have bounced around a lot of jobs before stumbling upon the UGa gig - but if it destabilizes their program a bit, that can't hurt.

I'm not convinced he's the answer, either.  I mean, UGA's offense was pretty good before he arrived.  However, I do think it improved with a nicely layered pass game and QB runs mixed in - and that came in the last couple of years under Monken.  It's exactly what John Harbaugh has been working towards with Jackson at QB - getting him out of the pocket to threaten with his athletic ability if the defense stays honest against the pass.  The Ravens don't want to run LJ all that much, but will when the defense makes it make sense.  And that is pretty much what UGA did the last couple of years with Bennett.

And it is what Jim Harbaugh should have done with JJ against TCU...

Monken did not "stumble" upon the UGA gig. He's the best hire that Kirby Smart has made as HC of Georgia.

Monken is an elite OC and has been an elite OC for many years. He's the perfect blend of power and spread. He's the rare coach who can marry excellent pass concepts that identify + attack mismatches with power, road-grading rushing.

He was the OC for the Oklahoma State Pokes when they had the National Championship caliber team in 2011 that got screwed by the "missed" FG call at Iowa State after the plane crash.

When he was OC for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (pre-Bruce Arians), his offenses put up a lot of yards and moved the ball up and down the field. Unfortunately, his QB was the very turnover-prone Jameis Winston who had a knack for ending promising drives with bad turnovers.

And Todd Monken was a good HC. He turned Southern Miss around before leaving to be an OC in the NFL.
